I forgive you. Naraku remembered how Annabelle sweetly uttered those words, then his mind brought him back to the hours they shared inside that cave, diving him into each touch and sensation, mostly into the remembrance of how tenderly her eyes locked with his. Was it a trick of his brain, or as recalling the months they lived together, was it right to conclude that the woman gradually has permitted her walls to fall and opened her heart to him?
So many times Annabelle seemed to look at him with fondness, whether when she played the harp and sang celtic songs, or at night when they laid together, before the hanyo guard her slumber. Sometimes, while sleeping, the lass even whispered his name, and Naraku believed that either the tenderness in her gestures and in the sound of her voice calling for him were simple reflections of the merciful soul she ever had. In present time though, he couldn't guess what was going on within the foreigner's depths.
Firstly he has desired that woman, then he hated her for loving an insignificant human and longed for break her spirit, he wished to amuse himself with her suffering. Then, when he achieved to shatter the lass in pieces, Naraku knew the real meaning of a feeling people use to call as remorse. It was heavy, visceral, undescribable and made him want to heal Annabelle from the pain he has caused her. The spider tried to protect her from himself, even if it meant to get away from the thing he yearned to be enclosed the most. Naraku, within his dark nature and knowing almost nothing about compassion, has tried, and tried, and tried again, yet all he has achieved was to bring her always to the same end – to suffer again. Because, as much as the arachnid felt a deep feeling for her, his soul was still too obscure and impulsive in it's own way. The ones who are used with the darkness' chaos will always fear to be blinded by the warmness of the light. Both knew it very well by now.
... and she forgave him anyway. The Scottish lass offered him her forgiveness!
Why do you insist on wasting your time thinking of futilities? It is a bit late for it, don't you think? Those voices, always them, kept serving as a compass to his morals and actions.
Standing on the edge of a cliff, Naraku narrowed his crimson eyes and stared at Shikon no Tama in his hand, there was but one shard to collect, Kohaku's.
Have you already forgotten she conspired with the priestess to purify you in the moment you touch the boy's shard? The choir insisted fiercely.
However, when she met me, Annabelle told me everything and betrayed Kikyo's trust... His fingers curled over the dark pearl and squeezed it.
Oh, what is that? You know you cannot destroy us. Even if the gemstone is to be parted in thousand shards, it's power will remain intact. Those monstrous laughter reverberated inside his ears.
It wasn't the first time Naraku has thought of destroying that jewel he once has desired so much. Nevertheless, the hanyo has never been the delusional type, his skepticism was so acid that was gnawing his core. The first woman who caught his eyes has been the guardian of that pestilence, who in a moment of despair asked to have her dead body burned along the cursed object. Then, in a strange way, the jewel came back into her reincarnation's body, Kagome, and the girl managed to break the barriers of time to get to that faraway age. The mystic pearl was even shattered into pieces and still so it's force has never extinguished, many were the ones who died to obtain the power of a single shard, others took countless lives for the same goal.
Ah yes, how Naraku thought about it all! When rebuilding his body inside Mount Hakurei, the hanyo wondered sometimes if the strength he had conquered would be enough to put an end to the Jewel of Four Souls, just to find himself impotent about the matter later. On the other hand, the venomous whispers stood echoing inside of him, reminding the spider of Annabelle's inevitable death, and that such finitude was one of the reasons which made him hate the human nature from the very start. That was how his demonic instinct resumed to overtake his senses, and once again Naraku succumbed to greed and resentment. The most far he got to fulfill his one true wish, the more he hated Inuyasha to have a second chance to find happiness by Kagome's side, more he detested Miroku and Sango for being so close to consummate their love. Even Sesshomaru, the arachnid wanted to see the daiyokai burning in hell for finding any joy on sheltering a human child. All of them wouldn't rest until ending his existence – for his actions' sake, obviously – yet Naraku didn't care about who was righter, who has started it, but with the hunting's result. He would never find peace, they would never let him.
Give us the priestess' soul. The choir prevailed, sounding almost hypnotic.
It was of Kagome's soul they were talking about.
"Master?" Byakuya came near, by his back. Although Naraku showed himself annoyed, secretly he felt relieved for his incarnation's appearance.
"Yes?" The hanyo turned to face his subject.
"About that woman, must I already intervene?"
"Show me how she is" he commanded.
The lad curled his lips and narrowed the eyes, grimacing. There he would go again, having to send one eye to follow the foreigner, and Naraku would watch the outside world's happenings in a non conventional way.
Annabelle, stay still... The hope she has lightened inside of the spider made him act thoughtlessly that night, now recovering his reason, Naraku found himself worried about how would she endure the consequence of their passionate deliverance.

A week has passed since Annabelle met Naraku into the cave. She had enough time to think about everything they've cherished, and also to miss being with him endlessly.
How could I be such a fool? She thought, now without the venomous influence of the jewel, her mind was able to dig deeper into remembrances from a time before the shard's influence. Moments she once wanted to believe to be nothing but the demonstration of her lust, of her longing for Kagewaki, which now felt so real and painful. I don't know when it has started, but I feel like it's older then my very existence... Inevitable, one time Naraku said. I can't avoid loving him, but I wasn't brave enough to tell him so.
Sadness was huge, yet couldn't get worse than a feeling of illness bothering the lass for a few days. Beyond a constant pain on her joints, reminiscing since the spicy hours she has shared with Naraku, sometimes her belly ached, making Anna see stars and get dizzy, her skin soon would feel cold although her whole body was sweating.
The foreigner made the horse stop so abruptly that she almost has been thrown away from the wagon. At least the impulse helped her to jump and reach the grass before vomiting all her lunch into the vehicle. Even when it seemed there was nothing more to pour from her depths, a strong pressure in her womb made Anna tremble and just throw bile juices up.
She thought her weak body would collapse. Gasping, nearly laying on the ground, before losing consciousness the lass noticed a shadow covering her shrinking forms. Her gaze lifted, seeing a giant with blue eyes right ahead. Although feeling terrified, Anna didn't manage to scream, her body simply fell to the side.

As the turquoise globes opened and her sight recovered focus, Annabelle saw a little flame lightened by her side, on a humble house's floor. She heard some noises from behind, than the lass turned and found an old woman smashing some herbs into a bowl. When she would start to wonder where that place could be, her host noticed she has awakened and, a bit grumpy, the elder offered her the receptacle with a sort of natural medicine inside.
"Drink it, you will feel better."
"What is it?" Anna took the bowl in her hands and stared at the liquid. The experience with Hakudoshi obliging her to drink a weird potion has traumatized her after all.
"It will relieve your nausea, but if you don't want to take it, it's not my problem." The old lady showed her back.
The foreigner sighed, feeling annoyed by the harshness of that stranger, yet she knew that nothing good would result of mentioning her discomfort, it would probably make the other woman act more aloof. So, Anna looked around again and then asked:
"How did I get here?"
"My son found you in the woods, and since he is a kind-hearted person, he brought you to our house." She snorted grumpily.
"Your son?" Anna rubbed her eyes, confused. Then she recalled a unknown presence in front of her before she fainted, the lass almost jumped, sitting on a straw bed.
"You listen to me now!" The woman got so close and her eyes were so incisive that Annabelle almost fell behind. "If you call any villager to come here and mistreat Jinenji I swear I will..."
"Easy, ma'am!" Anna interrupted her, understanding where such conversation would end.
"Don't tell me to calm down, you may look different, but I know you are human, and humans use to hate my son because he is a hanyo!" She shouted, unburdening all her frustrations over someone she didn't even know.
Annabelle watched the wrinkled fists shivering over constricted knees, so she just held them. The old woman parted her lips, startled for such unexpected gesture.
"I understand." The ginger lass said calmly. "I may not be a yokai, but I'm always mistaken as one. People usually fear me and even chase me for that."
"Oh, I..." Her fingers slowly relaxed, cheeks blushed.
"Where is your son?" Anna asked friendly, finally releasing the woman's hands.
"Outside, he didn't want to scare you." The woman lowered her head, a part of her felt sad because of her son's condition, she also felt ashamed of acting so hostile towards the stranger, yet it has become a habit since so many people used to threaten her family.
Annabelle tried to get up, but the insistent dizziness made her fall behind.
"You must drink this emulsion, little lady." The old woman delivered the bow into her hands again.
"Then call your son, he doesn't need to stay out there in the cold weather just because I'm here. I won't be afraid of his hanyo nature."
"You see, my boy's looks scares people sometimes..." She sighed.
The Scottish lass half-sealed her eyes, recalling Naraku's shapes and features on the night he needed to show his real form, and then another night when he came looking for her with his body shattering in pieces, Anna could still see with her mind's eye the amount of tentacles hanging down, pieces of arthropods spread on the grass. Even in the last time they delivered their bodies to passion, those pieces of him showed up, entangled around her, caressing the most sensitive spots, surrounding them so warmly. She smiled then, gazing at the anguished mother.
"I won't be scared." The ginger lass said with conviction.
"Alright..." Although the advanced age, the woman didn't seem to have any trouble to stretch her limbs and stand up fastly. "Just drink this already!" She pointed to Anna, demandingly. The lass soon obeyed.
So, the old lady left the house and took some minutes to come back. After drinking the bitter medicine, the still weakened Belle managed to rise and go to the window. There, she saw the huge hanyo sitting in front of a vegetable garden, the woman who sheltered her was so tiny and yet far more courageous than the man!
The mother opened her arms, gesturing, then pointed to their home and the colossus kept shaking his head in denial while his whole face grew red. The old lady grabbed his muscular arm, trying to pull him together. Finally the poor giant lowered his head and sighed. Assuming his defeat, he followed his mother with his rounded blue eyes glimmering like an insecure little kid's ones. Although titanic in his size, the halfbreed demon seemed so vulnerable... His arms had a plenty of scars, how that creature must have suffered during his life, Annabelle grieved in thoughts.
"This is Jinenji," the woman introduced him as soon as they entered the house.
"Hello, I am Annabelle." The lass bowed.
Indeed, whoever found him into the forest would feel terrified. Still, one look into his clear-blue eyes should be enough to note how inoffensive he was – the foreigner realized. Her fixated gaze made him shiver and stare at another direction.
"I-I.. I left your wagon near to the house, and I already fed your horse!" Although his voice was deep, his way of speaking sounded timid, almost childish.
"Oh, he brought the herbs as well!" The mother told proudly while patting his arm.
"Thank you very much." Anna smiled, and Jinenji shrunk, blushing even more.
"Well, I will warm the soup for us then!" The old lady announced.
When the food was ready, the three of them sat together and though Annabelle still felt nauseous, it would be slight to deny such courtesy, so she ate along mother and son. While having supper, the woman told Anna stories about their lives. The European lass felt quite moved by everything they have endured, and by the loneliness they had to bear to find some peace. At last, the old lady commented:
"But now we have some good friends, don't we, Jinenji?" She smiled, then told Anna how Inuyasha and Kagome have been generous and helped them to reconquest the nearby villager's respect. Annabelle felt the soup coming back from her stomach to her throat and immediately ran out of the house.
"Mother, she is very ill!" The gentle giant was sincerely worried.
"No, my son..." She paused a little, sipping the vegetable broth. "What she got is... Something else."

Bedtime hour came, the matriarch shrunk her delicate forms upon a straw mattress, near to Annabelle. Jinenji remained sitting, or there wouldn't have any space left inside the house.
Anna didn't tell to the family hosting her she also knew those mentioned people. Yet, while laying to sleep she couldn't help but think that encounter seemed to be a trick of fate, and such thought would linger hours ahead, pulsing inside her head, if it wasn't for the exhaustion she felt, so violent that even with her stomach aching and twirling, filling her mouth with hot saliva, the lass wouldn't have fallen asleep as fast and deeply as she did.
On the morning after, Belle went to the wagon and started to organize her things, getting ready to depart.
"Are you already leaving, miss?" Jinenji asked, sounding a bit depressed. His mother hasn't awakened yet.
"I don't wish to trouble you, nor your mother..." She was preoccupied not only because they knew people in common, but also because her simple presence could mean danger for them two.
"Stay one more day at least, miss." His tone sounded so amicable and worried that she felt guilty. "Look, I brought these herbs so you can get healthy soon." Jinenji opened his immense hand and showed pieces of leaf, acting like a boy who wants to prove how well-behaved he has been.
"Oh..." Moved by his kindness, Anna came near and got the plants. "Thank you, Jinenji." She gazed at the big cerulean orbs and sighed. Having no courage to say no, the lass smiled and stretched her arms above. "Right, one day more!"
As soon as the hanyo's mother woke, she went to the window and saw her son sitting by the fair ginger lass' side, collecting herbs and discussing trivial matters. She remembered Kagome, how gentle the girl used to be with Jinenji and her chest filled with joy. Annabelle would be another friend of them from now on, the old lady thought.
"Food looks so nice..." The foreigner said when seeing the lunch recently prepared. "But just scenting it's smell I feel like my belly will twirl upside down..."
Jinenji's mother hummed as swallowing an amount of rice, staring at Anna. "May I ask you something intimate?"
"Well..." Embarrassed, she flushed. "No problem, ask me anything."
"Have you been laying with anyone lately?" The woman asked very directly.
When finally Annabelle has achieved to put the first portion of food inside her mouth, she almost spit everything.
"Very intimate question indeed!" She chuckled nervously, her cheeks got pink and all her features answered the inquiry on their own. "Why do you ask though?"
"You are with child." The old lady revealed without any mystery. Jinenji and the lass blushed instantaneously, stiffening.
"No, no!" Anna denied in a rush. It can't be, Naraku and I already shared many intimate moments and I never... I thought it wasn't even possible! She covered her mouth with one hand, already feeling a new wave of nausea. "Why now?!" She asked without thinking straight.
The matriarch raised a brow, but her answer had to wait, for Belle had to run outside once more to puke every grain of rice upon the grass. She felt very weak, as if all her strength has been drained from her body. Jinenji carried her frail forms into the house.
A discrete, floating eye was observing everything.

"So, this is it?" Byakuya inquired when Naraku took his tentacle off the cavity where once resided an eyeball.
The spider didn't answer, he changed the subject instead:
"In the next hours, I need you to attentively observe how her body will react. If Annabelle collapse, I want you to go there and take that from her core."
"What, me?!" He asked hysterically.
"Is there any other person who I may be speaking with?" Naraku retorted impatiently.
"Alright, I got it!" Byakuya waved his hands. Even if his facial expressions were denouncing affliction, he just accepted it. What choice did he have?

Pregnant?! Anna couldn't stop overthinking about such possibility. But the last time we laid together hasn't even completed a month! Is it possible to know it so fast?! She shook her head and the simple act made her feel dizzy again. That feeling of weakness just grew worse as the day was passing by. She washed her face, kneeling in front of a river, and almost fell ahead.
"Miss, are you feeling well?" Jinenji sustained her weight with his forearm's strength.
"Yes, thank you..." her eyes rolled as she felt her body heavier than large stones.
"You're burning hot!" The hanyo said, feeling the heat emanating from her pale skin. "I will take you home."
She wanted to protest and has no force left even to raise her voice. While being carefully carried by the giant, Anna remembered her last encounter with Naraku, the feeling of something exploding inside of her, unlike any other time when they delivered their bodies to each other and reached that critical peak. Could that be the moment when it happened? Was that Naraku's fruitful seed which now could be blooming into Annabelle's womb?
