Jinenji got into his house, carrying Annabelle in his strong arms. His mother helped to lay the lass over the straw bed. As soon as the foreigner was settled upon the mattress, the old lady touched her forehead and got alarmed. "She has a fever!" The woman stared at her son, and the big boy immediately understood what he had to do. As Jinenji went out, towards the plantation ahead of the house, his mother uttered to their guest: "We will take care of you."
As the hours passed by, the White Rose drank some doses of medicinal tea, however her malaise and high body's temperature didn't fade.
"I feel so cold..." Anna muttered, resting hands over her own belly and feeling a strange pulsation inside. "It hurts!" She moaned.
"Listen, I need you to tell me," the old lady covered the young lass' body with a cloth. "Is the father of your child a man or a demon?"
"A half-demon." She spilled with rolling eyes.
"I see." Moved by the guest's situation, she sighed and brushed wrinkled thin fingers on the coppery sweaty bangs. "I think it's better if you stay with us for a little longer, I know far well what you are enduring and can help you to get through it."
"I can't..." Anna wouldn't stand to cause troubles for that family, the danger she made Yoru face for her sake has been enough. And now then, if she was really carrying Naraku's child, situation was even more delicate. If any of the hanyo's enemies came to find out, or worse, when they come to find out...
"Do you realize that, from now on, you are not responsible only for your own life? There is a little being growing inside of you who needs extra cares!"Jinenji's mother scolded her. "Will you risk to lose this little miracle?"
The turquoises, albeit numb, opened subtly and got stuck on the image of that old woman whose features showed how much suffer she had to endure alone, and although she could be sullen, one thing was unquestionable about her though: the deep, genuine love she felt for her son. A child, a proof of a consummated passion and even more – a remembrance. Jinenji was all that remained of the yokai that woman has fallen in love with. Soon, everything Annabelle would have of Naraku would be the memories of moments they spent together, and that seed blooming into her womb. A knot formed inside her throat and the lass swallowed it slowly as her eyelids felt burning and swollen.
"I'll do whatever I need to keep this child safe." She said, full with conviction, caressing her own belly that sometimes pulsed painfully.
"Even if it comes to be like Jinenji?" The woman asked, since her son was outside, in the woods. "I don't know if you are aware, but there are many chances that your child may born with some..." She sought for the right words. "Odd characteristics."
"I will love my baby, no matter what." Anna kept firm on her tone and gaze, moving the old lady nursing her.
"Well..." The eldest breathed in, restraining her emotions. "Fever happens because your body is still getting used to it's new condition. After all, it isn't expected that an ordinary woman gets pregnant with a supernatural being's child. But, for the way you speak and act, for the light I see in your eyes, I'm confident you shall resist as I did myself in the past."
"Mother," Jinenji called from the entrance's door. "There is someone wanting to see the lady."
"Who is it?" Annabelle asked, full of expectations.
"Is it the father of her child?" The other woman inquired.
"No..." The gentle giant answered timidly. "But he says he came in the man's name."
Who is it then? Disappointed because the visitor wasn't who she wished to see the most, Annabelle wondered.
An exotic fellow emerged at the door, he walked inside with his arms folded, wearing a light blue haori with red patterns designed by it's sleeves and shoulders, a short brown hakama covered his slender legs, and a dark blue vest adorned by golden embroideries fell upon his forms elegantly. His face looked as pale as the moon, contrasting with his pitch black, velvet hair arranged in a high ponytail. Lips painted in red remained silent, and his purple eyes gleamed, seemingly worried. Anna has never seen him before, and still the unknown man sat by her side and stared at the lass attentively.
"We'll let you have some privacy." The old lady held Jinenji's arm and both went outside.
"Hello, I am Byakuya." He presented himself respectfully. "You-know-who has sent me here to take a look on you, and if things get too serious he said I should take off this little thing he put there inside." The demon pointed to her body with a movement of his head.
"No!" Anna held herself, trembling. "You won't take it from me!"
"That will depend on how your body will behave, if it will accept what it has received." He sighed and crossed his legs.
"If he already knows, why didn't he come to see me?" Saddened, she asked.
"Ah, you know how he is like." Byakuya shrugged.
Annabelle sealed the eyelids and breathed in deeply. It was true, she knew Naraku far too well. Anyway, the hanyo has sent someone to care for her, and that was sufficient for the lass to understand how worried he must feel.
No one will take this baby from me! Anna turned on the mattress, holding herself tighter than before. She was decided. Naraku made her promise to not show up when the last confrontation comes, so at least this solace she would have. How I wish we could raise this child together... However, there was that part of her being who kept insisting on pursue something she could not have, not allowing the foreigner to completely conform.

As the night broke through, Annabelle got along with Naraku's new incarnation, they talked a lot and the lass filled him with questions, not feeling disturbed by the hosts' presence around by then, nor even with her own frail constitution.
"So, Kanna is gone..." She spoke while melancholy was making her heart feel heavier, after Byakuya told her about the episode, of course not mentioning the name of any Naraku's foes. With Kagura it should not have been different. Her chest pounded, aching within for the two sisters, even if she never had been so close to the older one. As frail as she was, it feared her to ask about the youngest, her so dear friend, and get an answer which could shatter her even more, to the point of making her lose the one last thing she had, which was giving a sense to her life. Then, the dark feeling of guilt hovered upon her, remembering Kikyo. At last, they almost became friends, they could easily have straightened that bond, yet without considering it, Annabelle revealed to Naraku the danger he was in for Kohaku's jewel shard sake. The hanyo has confessed his participation on Kikyo's death and even so Anna told him about the priestess's strategy. The arachnid's intentions were clearly the worst possible, and even if she has pleaded him to show Kagura clemency, Naraku might have shown none, how would it be different with Kohaku?
The least she could do for the group of people which once treated her so decently was to not get involved into that war anymore. Yet, if Annabelle was truly so virtuous she would stand by their side and fight against Naraku, ignoring her own feelings towards the villain.
Yes, she felt ashamed, but not enough to do something about it. Just remembering the aid she gave to Kikyo on purifying Kohaku's shard made her guts revolve, maybe it would be easier to her forgiving herself for being absent, than for being the one who would send Naraku to his grave.
"Eat this soup, it will give you some strength." Jinenji's mother offered.
Annabelle wasn't hungry, but she ate it anyway, though a few minutes later the soup went out from the place it has come in. Byakuya was ready to stand up and make something.
"Leave her be, it's normal!" The other woman took him by the arm.
"You consider yourself so wise, don't you?" The illusionist demon chuckled.
"I know very well how it is like to be pregnant of a being of your kind." Firstly she sounded harsh, than her wrinkled face blushed while recalling the best night of her entire life.
As the moon, shaped like a thin bright smile contoured by several stars, was glowing high in the nocturnal sky, while Jinenji and his mother were sleeping quietly, Byakuya remained vigilant by Annabelle's side, aware of each new symptom that would develop in that delicate female form. It has been hours of a clash between her body and the strange thing which has invaded her interior till a moment when, bit by bit, the foreigner started to adapt and sweat dripped from her pores.
Well-trained purplish eyes contemplated an amount of purple mist, till then running inside of her, suddenly begin to dissipate. Whatever Naraku has put into the lass has been poisoning her till the present moment. However, her white halo blended to the acid venom and melted it, protecting the little spark of pulsing life shrinking into her uterus.
She is really resilient. He concluded, startled. If only Naraku wasn't so stubborn... His scarlet lips curled. Byakuya grimaced while shaking his head. At the dawn, he bid farewell and would step out of the house.
"Will it take long?" Annabelle asked, still laying down on the straw bed.
"What?" He turned his head, looking at the foreigner again.
"You know what I am talking about. Is the moment near?"
"Oh..." Byakuya stared at his own feet. "The so-called moment, right? Yes, it shall be soon."
She bit her lower lip, squeezing the sheet upon her body.
"Do not do any nonsense, or it will spill on me. Understood?" The yokai sounded playful instead of threatening.
"Yes..." Anna gazed at the ceiling, trying to convince herself that she shouldn't act imprudently, for her life wouldn't be the only one at risk. She must preserve her baby. "It was nice to meet you." The lass said in the end.
"The pleasure was mine, milady." He smiled and finally left.

"You're really leaving then?" The old woman asked with hands on her waist, looking lightly grumpy. "So narrow-minded you are..."
"I have to go, please don't get angry." Anna asked, ready to climb on the wagon. "I will always be grateful for what you two did for me during this three days, but the hanyo who I got involved with has many enemies, and as soon as those people find I am with his child, they may come after me. I must leave as soon as I can..." She threw the baboon pelt over her back.
"And where will you go, miss?" Jinenji looked sad when he asked.
"I will gather a bit more of possessions, and when I have the amount that I need, I will return to my homeland to raise my child there." A nostalgic smile adorned her face.
"If only we could do anything to contribute..." Finally understanding the situation a bit more clearly, the old lady grieved for not having much to offer.
"Oh, don't worry, you already did a lot for me, thank you so much!" Anna waved one arm, than directed the horse to start moving.
"She is very kind, it reminds me miss Kagome..." Jinenji spoke to his progenitor, while responding the lass' waving with his own, watching the wagon slowly fade ahead the green field.
"My son!" The elder exclaimed, gazing at the opposite side. "Look at that!" She pointed with her index finger.
The grand halfbreed demon turned calmly and felt his huge body petrifying in the moment his eyes looked at the direction his mother has mentioned. Their garden has miraculously grown, abundant in all kind of herbs and blessed with a variety of vegetables that weren't there in the night before.
Annabelle, guiding the horse, giggled discretely. She returned the favor in the way she could. That family would have guaranteed food and medicine for quite a while. As for her, the lass needed to find a way to overcome the pain and the nausea so she could work and earn more coins.
She would go towards the sea, careful not to bump on the villagers that once sheltered her though.
Yoru... the lass thought about the girl with fondness, missing her company, but, it would be better for the child and her friends not having any news about Annabelle. If I already represented danger to them that time, now it's even worse... She slid one hand over her belly, barely firmed by the corset to not make her feel so sick and also to not bring any risks to the life grooming inside. I am on my own, just like before.
Under sun and rain, Annabelle resumed to pilgrimage for the countless time, and when she was near to get into the trails which would lead her to the shore, her clear-blue eyes witnessed the sky starting to grow dark purple right behind, on the opposite way of hers.
She stopped the wagon and jumped down to behold the very known mutation that used to make the air feels thick and the woods around wither. A shadow covered the daylight above her head, the lass lifted her gaze to the heights and saw a horde of centipede yokai flying, aiming to the darkness ahead. Anna has seen a similar scene a time ago, and the same dreadful sensation consumed her whole.
A feeling of loss.
She rested one hand over her chest and the other upon her belly, while gasping in anguish.
"You take an oath to me now, Annabelle Rose. It does not matter what happens, in the moment of the final confrontation, you will not do anything, you will not come for me". Naraku's voice reverberated into her consciousness.
I gave him my word... The foreigner felt like a prisoner of her own vow, and at the same time, a fear of losing him forever pained unbearably within her soul. Despair began to take over her entire being, an indescribable cold ran inside Annabelle, making her whole constitution tremble as she was nearly fainting.
"I implore you, in the name of your daughterly love, Belle, promise me you will let me go!" Then old words uttered by her beloved father echoed within, bringing back the bitterness hidden into her depths for years, her so regretted cowardice, there wasn't a day when she didn't feel remorse for letting him die, knowing she could have saved him, and if she had, maybe her relationship with Ailyn should never have rotted.
The ocean was over there, the chance of returning home was by one side, and the chance to see Naraku again, to save him, was by another.
Anna thought of Inuyasha, Sango and Miroku, the rage they would probably feel and how they should turn against her. She thought of Sesshomaru and the despise he might show if she took Naraku's part. Probably, everybody would want her head on a spike and Belle would suffer for that, because she was fond of everyone of them.
Then, she remembered Hitomi Kagewaki, the love she once felt for him. She recalled the dreams they cherished together, and the hell it has been the pain when losing him.
At last, words Kagome said came to mind, those which made Anna awake to acknowledge her own feelings without even noticing at first:
He loves you.
The turmoil twirling within her spirit felt the same as when Naraku has almost been annihilated by Kaze no Kizu once, and when they met months after, the time when he fell from the sky with his body torn into pieces and if it wasn't for her, the hanyo would have perished and never would be able to get to Mount Hakurei. As in such occasions, the foreigner's heart shimmied hard, commanding her to assume a position, to do something, or she would regret it for the rest of her days.
The Scottish lass turned around, staring at the wagon that carried her every belongings. She looked at the fair horse recently acquired, after a sigh Anna released it's reins.
"Go!" The woman induced the beautiful stallion to run freely into the woods, where the sky looked still clear and the trees filled with green leaves.
No, she wouldn't repeat her worst mistake from the past, she would not let someone her heart cherished so much to die, knowing there was power in her hands to prevent it.
Then, carrying only the baboon pelt with herself, Annabelle resumed to gaze at the skies, raising one hand into the last colorful, long yokai which was passing by.
The veil of alabaster energy contoured her forms and her eyes shone an indigo shade. The beast stared at her, looking hypnotized. The lass didn't look like the silly girl who once has feared a simple Saimyosho. So, the enormous centipede demon came down, crossing the clouds, stopping in front of the minuscule female.
The Kissed by the Fairies' hands caressed the greenish sides of the yokai and in a single jump, Anna rode the monster tamed by her mysterious gift.
They flew over the darkened fog while the woman was controlling the urge to vomit everything she has eaten in the day. Gradually, as the clouds dissipated, she saw a colossal shrinking black spider floating nearby Kaede's village. Anna thought she would collapse, unable to restrain all the emotions possessing her: fear, yearning, determination – to say the least.
She made the centipede stop before the countless arachnid eyes and stared at the creature while panting.
"Naraku?" She called.
What is she doing here?! While many shadows of himself assumed the role of tormenting his enemies, another part, alone and connected to tentacles emerged from a wall and faced that shinning creature outside, oscillating in the middle of miasma.
"Let me in!" Annabelle screamed in agony.
Startled, the spider opened it's big mouth. Although terrified, Annabelle jumped from the slender yokai to the depths of the fangs of that giant monster, which was no more nor less than Naraku itself – so she realized, after rolling over the straight surface, get up, touch the moving walls and see him right in front of her, stripped of any paraphernalia, with dilated vermilion eyes stuck on hers.
To be continued...

So, you thought Annabelle would really leave Naraku behind so easily, huh?
Of course you didn't, it was pretty much predictable. Who am I trying to deceive? LOL.
If anyone really believed she wouldn't find him again, I'll actually feel flattered hehe.
I hope you're enjoying the plot though, In 8 chapters it will reach an end. Looks much, but it isn't really. In a blink of an eye we'll get there :'(
Till the next chapter, thanks for everyone who is still reading this messy story that I love so much! Kissuuuuus!!!
