Either the floor and the walls inside the giant floating spider were made of flesh. They quacked once and a while, as the inner atmosphere felt thicker, making Annabelle feel even more nauseous and dizzy than before. Leaning both hands and her back against one of those surfaces carved in such eccentric texture, she stared at the bare pale figure right ahead, with greenish tentacles revolving on his back. Hanyo and woman looked astonished, the ginger lass gasped while Naraku's complexion seemed almost apathetic, still disbelieving he was seeing her there.
When Annabelle would depart from the slippery wall, a strong tremor all around the locus made her legs stumble and her body bended ahead, almost hitting the ground, dark brown tentacles emerged from below and reached her first, preventing the lass to fall down.
"They are already in here!" She exclaimed desperately, looking at every corner in an attempt of identifying from where came all the lights, noises and the amount of energies that were mixing violently. In that moment, Anna could swear she saw Naraku's pale face cracking like broken porcelain around one of his ruby eyes.
"You gave me your word!" All of sudden, lethargy faded and indignation filled his tone and features, he didn't even look worried about his damaged skin while scolding Anna. His fists clenched so hard that veins popped on their backs.
She ran to him anyway. Breathless, the lass rested her hands over the hanyo's anguished, though silent chest.
"No, this isn't you! Where is the real one?!" Anna swirled, looking around.
"Everything in here is me." The spider pulled her arm, making the foreigner turn and meet his gaze again. "Don't you see you are inside my body now? You should not have come to this place!" His head shook negatively. "You have no idea of the danger you are facing!" Naraku sounded furious and frightened.
"Yes, I know!" Annabelle shouted, grabbing his hands.
"You made a promise, you fool! Have you already forgotten?" He cupped her face in his hands, coppery curly strands entangled around his cold fingers.
"I lied!" She screamed, wrapping her own delicate fingers between his as tears began to drop from her long, ginger lashes.
"...Why?" Slowly, Naraku released her cheeks, still skeptical about that madness, then he saw the lass touching her belly and a discreet, melancholic sigh escaped from his mouth. "You don't deserve it..." His hand rested on her palpitating womb, then lifted to caress her shivered cheek. "Kagome has set you free from the jewel shard, and I just kept you tied to myself in a different sort of way." He chuckled briefly, bittered, mocking of his own misery. "I will remove it right away." The hanyo frowned, decided.
"Don't!" Annabelle jumped behind, embracing herself, protecting the life grooming inside of her body.
"Come, you are unaware of the danger this thing represents to you." Naraku offered one hand to Annabelle.
"I don't care!" Shaking, she insisted on denying his call.
"Our time is scarce, go on with it!" His tone raised while his feet leaded him to the shrinking woman.
"You won't take it from me!" The ground trembled once more, a greenish gleam shone through a wall. Anna would fall on her knees, but the hanyo held her arms in time.
"Foolish woman, it is your chance to be free!" Naraku hissed.
"I don't want to be free! I want to be with you!" She growled as thick tears cascaded down her skin, dripping from her chin to reach her throbbing chest.
Naraku's scarlet globes widened and his hands slid from her arms to nowhere. Unable to show any reaction, all he could do was to wonder if that whole situation was nothing but a delirium.
The lass breathed in deeply, then held him tight, filling his face with soft kisses. Her anguished lips ran over his forehead, cheeks, chin, jaw and temples, sparing not even his eyes.
"Run away with me!" Annabelle begged. "Let's go to Scotland, we can leave all tragedies we've been through behind and restart together!" As she suggested, her mouth met his a plenty of times, sharing superficial kisses with his parted lips. "It's so beautiful in there! I have a lot of places to show you, there are so many things we could do! You'll see!" The more she spoke, more her excitement sounded like despair. Turquoise dilated pools didn't even blink while Annabelle looked at Naraku and nodded insistently, reaffirming her own reveries.
"It's impossible!" He restrained her head with his fingers again, yet even the firm touch of his wasn't enough to contain Anna's tremors.
"Please, Naraku!" She pleaded, sliding hands on his chest and tensed shoulders. "You always escape, you always find a way to run!"
"They won't let me go, all of them will follow me to hell if they must." Gritting teeth, Naraku uttered low, resenting his enemies and himself with all of his poisoned soul.
"Leave Shikon no Tama behind!" Annabelle persisted, still speaking loud, laughing and crying at the same time.
"Even if I could give the jewel up, my enemies would never give up on me, don't you see?" Red eyes blinked numerous times, startled with the sobbing lass' behavior.
"Don't make me go through this again, please, I beg you!" Her head lowered as she muttered, swollen eyelids constricted vigorously. Nausea consumed her constitution along with fastened heartbeats when Annabelle realized she would face the same turmoil. Once, she invited Kagewaki to run away together and the man, for several reasons, didn't accept it. So she suffered bitterly with the disastrous consequences, with the grief she had to endure, and of all the things, what frightened Anna the most was to feel her present pain was twice worse. Although everything Naraku has done to her and other people, Annabelle's craving for him showed to be visceral.
The arachnid, on his turn, understood from where in time her appeal came, and felt the remorse stabbing deeper into his core.
How pure in this woman's heart. After all suffering you have inflicted on her, Annabelle still yearns to save your soul. She still pities your condition so much... The voices, sounding more concrete than ever, buzzed within him, longing for Naraku to conclude his work and join his soul to the pearl once and for all.
"I do not want your sympathy!" He subtly moved away from the lass. "You cannot save my soul, Annabelle!"
Giving no chance to irrelevant pride, the woman took no offense with the hanyo's arrogance and came near.
"You cannot die!" She shouted, sky-blue eyes stuck into the red ones.
"Why so?!" Speaking as loud as the lass, retrieving her firm gaze, he inquired. "You said yourself I deserved to end like this. Now you regret it?" At last, he laughed, recovering the usual sarcasm which served him so well. "Why, Annabelle Rose?!"
"Because I love you!" And finally the confession came, as a warm, unthinkable claim.
Voice, ideas, reason itself, everything faded within him abruptly. A discrete glow adorned the shivering ruby pools as the black thin eyebrows, usually arched, went down a bit, and that was how the hanyo's sadness featured on his complexion, although he struggled so hard to show himself as a fortress most of the time. Anna tapped her mouth for a while, restraining both the feelings of nausea and astonishment. However, if Naraku thought the Scottish lass' impulses would stop there, he couldn't be more mistaken. Soon she jumped into his arms, embracing his nape urgently, and with her chin resting over his collarbone while her cheek rubbed against his, her mouth whispered close to his attentive ear:
"I love you..." Annabelle confessed again. A tenuous relieved smile formed on her lips, after gathering courage to reveal that elucidating secret a huge weight seemed to get out of her back, though the lass still felt crushed by the fear of losing him.
"It cannot be..." Naraku uttered, with his every muscles as rigid as rocks. Only one hand of his was lightly caressing her back.
"Why not?" She looked into his eyes once more and threw his bangs behind to have a better view of his features.
"After all I have done?" His gaze was lost inside remembrances. "How could you?"
"Yes, I have seen the worst side of you." She spoke seriously. "But I also have met a side that no one has ever known, gentle and kind, and I grew fond of it. When I could realize, all my thoughts, dreams and desires were spinning around you and I barely thought of Hitomi anymore. It was your warmth I wished to feel before sleepytime, it was your voice I longed to hear and your eyes I needed to see. You, just you and no one else. I felt so guilty that I just didn't want to admit it, Naraku."
"How can you be so sure that this is true love, Annabelle, if many times you said yourself you didn't know how to love anymore, and for the sake of me?" Naraku said slowly, in a deep tone, as if intoxicated by her words, still deep inside he felt skeptical to the last minute.
"I lied. I lied to you and to myself, because it was easier to doubt everything than to accept this truth." She breathed in, trying to calm down. It felt so hard to express herself when so many sobs were escaping from her throat and her shoulders just couldn't cease to go up and down. "That jewel shard did twisted my senses and helped me to keep the doubt. I believed that in the moment I'd get rid of that piece I would be free, however, with or without a Shikon shard inside my chest, there isn't a moment in the day that you're not filling my thoughts. You were right once, when you said I wanted you long before you've put that piece of gemstone into my chest, I made myself forget because it was too shameful to accept that sparkle already burned inside of me, and I've been blind to see it growing into something bigger, immeasurable. The truth is but one, Naraku; though I know who you are and everything you did, being with you is what I wish the most." She rubbed her pinkish nose on his, inhaling the hanyo's warm breath as her hands stroked his head tenderly. "I wish I had told you this before..." Anna unburdened more to herself, not even noticing the lament pouring from her lips, being shared with the spider's ears.
"Annabelle..." his other hand reached her back and finally he pulled her close, pressing the woman against his bare body with some new cracks over it's milky skin. A bunch of saliva went slowly down his throat while Naraku bit his lower lip, sighing and closing his eyes. Then, his tremulous mouth curved in a smile. The woman probably would never know how her revelation deadly wounded and filled him with joy at the same time. Cluelessly, Annabelle just gave him what he has been yearning for so long, and even Shikon no Tama couldn't offer.
As that situation was far too inedit, Naraku was speechless. So, the hanyo with half of his face full of new damages, answered the foreigner with a kiss which represented every feeling blossomed into his core. While she caressed his face, contouring the cracks, opening her mouth to speak some more, his own widened lips joggled on hers and his anxious tongue immediately invaded the space. Anna's words sounded as muffled groans. Feverish tongues swirled over one another, as the arachnid and the lass sucked each other's lips avidly. Pressing his body against hers into such wild embrace, Belle touched the tentacles on his back and caressed them gently. The white light evolving her shapes increased and fell over him. Yet the cracks shattering his porcelain skin didn't mend.
Woebegone, she parted the kiss and moaned. Naraku cupped her face and proceeded on kissing Anna like nothing else mattered in the moment. His thumbs dried the corner of her eyes while their heads were moving to the sides in perfect synchrony with the frantic rotation of their tongues. The lass touched his chest many times and scratched the flesh, yet she couldn't feel any pulsation inside.
When finally there was no breath left to prolong that kiss, they ceased it and gasped together, touching their noses.
"Where is your heart?" She asked weakly.
"You are my heart, Annabelle Rose." He murmured, uniting their foreheads while closing his eyes. A genuine smile was gleaming on his shattering face.
"Naraku..." Dizzy and discretely blushed, she would try to convince him to escape again. That was what he ever did when things grew complicated, why this time should be different? Then, suddenly, tentacles emerged from the floor and the walls, wrapping around Anna's legs and arms. The foreigner looked at every side and then stared at the spider one more time.
"Thank you," scarlet pools lightly twinkled, almost watering, and the most sincere and sweet smile he could ever show grew larger on his lips before saying: "to show me the true colors of love."
"No, wait!" Anna pointed one arm to him, although it was hard to move with those appendages squeezing her joints. Her crying intensified. "Don't leave me!"
"Go." At last his smile faded and Naraku looked stern again, only his eyes still reflected a sort of melancholy. Nevertheless, above any sorrows his resolve prevailed. Unlike the occasion when the hanyo sought the lass to regenerate his wounds, in this fateful day he looked ready to receive his death.
The tentacles pulled the White Rose with full strength and speed, any effort to scream and shake her joints were in vain. The ground underneath was too soft and malleable to sink her feet, so her body was dragged behind as her sight caught the image of the shattering hanyo, surrounded by greenish rays which finally began to tear the walls into countless pieces of flesh, becoming far, far away.
"No!" She insisted on screaming while feeling herself on free fall. Her dizziness didn't allow the lass to comprehend exactly what was happening, the sound of violent winds overcame the noise of energies' bursting, confusing her senses even more, and so Annabelle shouted loudly all her cries till, all of sudden, her feet touched the soil, yet her legs were so feeble that the woman fell behind. First she breathed in deeply, covering her mouth with a hand to restrain the urge to vomit. Then, when she managed to control the malaise, her swollen eyes raised and widened. Seeing the dark purple sky above, Annabelle realized how far the floating giant spider was from her reach. Beside her, there was the baboon pelt that slid from her back when she jumped over a centipede yokai to get into the wide mouth of the arachnid beast – in other words – Naraku's own mouth.
Still consumed by dread and despair, the lass tried to rise and fell on her knees, trembling so hard that it felt nearly impossible to control her limbs. Even so, she didn't give up and rested hands over the grass, pushing her body upward. Anna stumbled, starting a race that didn't last more than a few seconds. Soon someone came from behind and restrained her movements.
To be continued...
