Annabelle continued to flounce, screaming Naraku's name while shaking her legs, her arms were grasped by a mysterious being from her back. The woman's soul felt incandescent, just like her throbbing chest. The pain, the desperation were so deep that she couldn't even think on bursting her aura again. Annabelle didn't believe she would know a worse sensation in life. So many beloved people she had already lost, shouldn't she be used to it? Oh, but with him everything always felt intenser...
"Stop it, woman!" Byakuya's voice reverberated, revealing who was the one who kept restraining her. "You are making me waste my time, I have more important things to attend! Didn't I tell you to not cause troubles, have you forgotten already?!"
At last Anna's joints gradually ceased to struggle, yet her sobs sounded loud, suffocating. The yokai released the lass and she fell sitting on the earth. A pounding into her belly made the foreigner lay, shrinking on the soil, covering her frail constitution with the white baboon fur.
"You must leave this place at once, before they find it out!" He ran one hand over his forehead which was cracking just like Naraku's complexion, then he looked around as if searching for something. "Ah, there it is!" After a relieved sigh, Byakuya said.
The Scottish lass heard a noise coming near. Raising her head, she figured a fancy, big chariot ahead. However, Anna had no time to admire the details, for Byakuya soon pulled her by the arm, covered her with the milky Naraku's fur and dragged her to the vehicle the faster he could.
"Go on, lady! Get in!" The yokai threw Anna inside, sitting over the upholstered seat.
"No!" Feeble, panting, the lass shoved her body against the door already closed, then she felt the swing and noticed the carriage has began to move, and was quite fast. She put her face out from the window and saw Byakuya standing on his feet while gazing at her in seriousness, and maybe even with... pity?
"You're not intending to jump, are you?" A voice, very well known by Annabelle, made the sky-blue eyes grow wide. The lass immediately turned her attention to the vehicle's interior.
She didn't even realize before that there was another person inside such luxury carriage, sitting right in front of her, covered by a beautiful cloak with cherry blossom flowers embroidered all over the soft fabric.
"Kagura?" Annabelle whispered, startled.
The person unveiled her face, unraveling the vermilion gaze and the usual smirk.
"Surprised on seeing me?"
Although feeling devastated, and with tears still cascading down her cheeks, Anna smiled in relief and just jumped over the Wind Sorceress, holding the yokai tightly.
"Hey, easy now! You're going to break me in half this way!" Blushing, Kagura touched Annabelle's shoulders and tried to move her away a bit.
The contact made the fairies' descendant note an unusual pulsation coming from her friend's chest.
"Your heart..." her face, once resting over one of Kagura's shoulder, lifted in astonishment, staring at the demoness.
"He finally retrieved it to me." She sighed, feeling the arms around her loosening the grip. The smile on the crimson lips was amiable this time. "I am free..." Kagura closed her eyes, breathing in the wind coming from outside the windows, through the curtains, and then she reopened the ruby pools. "All thanks to you."
The clear watering turquoises showed themselves even more emotional.
XXX
"Kagura..." Naraku appeared in front of the yokai when she was plummetting on her large feather, over an extensive green meadow.
He came! Terrified, she stopped to go ahead and stood still, staring at her master in silence. She knew from where the Spider has come, he probably had saved Annabelle from Hakudoshi, based on informations the demoness gave him on free will. Had she condemned herself? Kagura wondered as the wind felt like revolving within her womb, making her feel an urge to embrace her own body to calm it down. Every pore of her skin felt like freezing when the hanyo lifted an arm on her direction, stretching his fingers slowly to reveal a vital organ frantically pulsing on his palm.
Her heart.
The red globes almost jumped from their orbits and time seemed to stop in that very moment. Kagura was certain that she would die. Her maker didn't show any reaction. Expressionless, he said:
"It is yours. Take it."
She hesitated, her fingers pressed white threads of the feather.
"Come, Kagura. Wasn't it what you wanted?" He challenged his incarnation. "Come and take it."
The demoness' feet reached the floor, then, in slow and heavy steps she walked towards her tormentor. As the Wind Sorceress enclosed the arachnid, the heart into his hand skipped more and more. At last, standing in front of Naraku and still feeling fear making her whole being apathetic, Kagura rubbed her fingers on that piece of latent flesh, the light touch was enough to run a chill down her spine.
Slowly, her hand carefully evolved what belonged to her and took it from Naraku's domain. As soon as his former servant brought the pulsing heart next to her chest, the hanyo resumed speaking:
"You know, I have been planning this moment for a while..." He showed a taciturn, sided smirk. "I intended to wound you mortally in the instant I retrieved your heart." Then the Spider chuckled briefly. "To punish you for cogitating to stab me in the back."
"Naraku!" She jumped behind, ready to escape.
"...but she asked me to release you." Suddenly, the crimson gaze looked less threatening, lowering down while showing a discreet shade of sadness perhaps.
Mortified with his statement, Kagura froze exactly where she was, as Naraku proceeded talking:
"For that reason, Kagura," he stared at his incarnation once more, regaining the dreadful glare. "You must thank Annabelle. You owe your freedom and your life to her." His feet began to separate from the earth and his body hovered, evolved by the protective dome. Before reaching the clouds though, the hanyo stopped a bit. "Ah." Naraku glanced at his creation, looking so little in his eyes from above, and then he finished: "Dare not to conspire against me, if I come to know you have joined strength with Inuyasha and his friends, I shall kill you at once." He sounded dark and deep, the demoness knew there was no lie in those words.
Naraku disappeared in the skies that way, taking the dark purple clouds along with his presence.

"He granted my request..." Annabelle, sitting in front of the demoness again, touched her own, still soaked cheek, not being able to restrain the tempest within her core. The heart just felt even more tightened as turquoise eyes burned, lowered to her feet, which toes were shrinking inside socks and boots. Because he has feelings for me as well.
"A shame Kanna couldn't have the same luck as I did..." Kagura grieved.
"And Kikyo!" Anna covered her face, immersed into an endless mourning, taken by a feeling of frustration because she couldn't change the past, neither the future.
"But Kohaku... I know he is alright." The demoness' tone didn't do justice to the intention of providing warmth to someone. It sounded almost careless, although into her depths, she felt like otherwise. "He has survived, even without the shard."
So our efforts indeed had resulted in something good... Anna took a deep breath, still sobbing sometimes. And Naraku hasn't been purified when he managed to steal the last jewel shard. She almost felt relieved for a little while. Still... However, the lass remembered the critical state he was enduring when sending her out of the huge spider's carcass, out of his own decaying flesh, and her anguishes just worsened, yet she tried to keep them for herself and asked Kagura instead: "What are you doing in here, if you are free to go wherever you want to?" Her shaking hands, covering her mouth, muffled what the tightening throat already was cracking and wavering inside.
"Sometime after giving my heart back, Naraku has sent an eccentric fellow to find me." Long, black eyelashes sealed as the yokai calmly began to tell. "His name is Byakuya, you know who he is."

"Who are you?!" She hissed, ready to use the power of her fan in the first opportunity she would have.
"Easy now!" The stranger waved his hands while coming down from the big origami bird which usually took him wherever he needed to go. "You are Kagura, right? You may call me Byakuya, Naraku asked me to meet you." He revealed placidly, showing an almost playful smile.
"Naraku?!" Kagura shouted, putting a hand over her chest like a shield to protect the most valuable treasure she possessed. "I should have known that bastard wouldn't let me go! I am free, I have my heart, I will never obey any of his commands again!"
"It is not a command though." His red lips went straight as Byakuya sighed. "It is a request."
The Wind Sorceress opened her mouth, ready to argue, but suddenly her voice got stuck before making the tongue agitate. The red-blood eyes blinked in confusion, and without noticing, her hand once lifting the fan just went down.
"A request?" Kagura raised one eyebrow in disbelief.
"You are a friend of the woman with flaming hair, right?" Curious, he gazed at her.
Friend... This time, it was the liberated yokai who has released a long, deep sigh. She felt the speed of her heartbeats increasing inside of her while remembering the several tours around the forest with Annabelle, the beautiful dress the foreigner has gifted her, the ordinary conversations they had and even some giggles they cherished together. "Indeed..." Kagura muttered, at last recalling that if in the present she had a heart beating into her chest, it was because the human has convinced Naraku to retrieve it. Ah, yes, the demoness could never forget the night when the woman risked her very life for that vital organ's sake. "She is a friend of mine." Kagura finished with a smile, with no remaining hostility in her voice, nor in her features.
"Naraku is asking the two of us to do something for her." He started to explain then.
XXX
"For me?" Anna was listening the tale without understanding anything. The chariot ran over a stone and shook more than it should, so the lass pressed her hands upon her mouth, intending to refrain the nausea.
"Naraku used his old warlord disguise to exert influence on men and manage to accumulate wealth. So, he ordered Byakuya to buy a grand wooden ship and hire a respectful captain and a crew of foreigners to sail it."
"He bought a caravel?!" Feeling dizzy, the more she listened, the less she comprehended.
"Yes, and what is left of the wealth he asked me to deliver when I found you." Kagura pulled a purse from her own collar and put it upon Anna's legs.
"What did he intend me to do with that?" The lass opened the little bag of leather and her watery eyes widened when beholding the amount of precious jewels inside.
"To send you back to your homeland, so you could start over your life." Kagura looked at her discretely, observing the suffering pouring down from the sky-blue eyes. "I got involved on this because I owed you. But that bastard..." She chuckled briefly, even though her gaze seemed to show a bit of grief. "He surprised me, I must say. I never thought I would live to see Naraku acting in such altruistic way."
"So, when he told me I would be alright..." Anna sobbed. "That is what he was talking about!" She looked through the curtains and saw the trees forming only one greenish, messy image because of the high speed the chariot have been moving.
"I don't understand why you suffer so much for his sake." The yokai couldn't keep the commentary to herself. "As much as Naraku has acted nobly, sincerely speaking, I don't believe it is enough to erase all his sins. You should not waste all those tears on him..." She clasped her hands over her own clothes till find a handkerchief, which she offered to Annabelle. "Soon you will be free of him as well."
"I will not." She uselessly slid the soft silk on her face. After all, new little salty drops emerged to soak her skin again. The conviction of her timbre bothered Kagura.
"It is not like he has your heart into his hands, woman!" The demoness scolded impatiently.
"There are many ways of stealing someone's heart, Kagura." She rested her head against the wall beside, already tired of the chariot's swinging. "And he got mine."
They love each other, and why must I care about it? The Wind Sorceress found herself in internal contradiction. As the reason insisted she should feel relieved and anxious for her former master's demise, her heart kept throbbing with melancholy. How could a situation feel so fair and unfair at the same time?
She saw the woman stroking her own belly, as if trying to pacify a being who has been revolving inside of her. Kagura knew that such little breath of life was the only thing preventing Annabelle to throw herself from the carriage and go after Naraku either way. And the demoness' certainty couldn't be righter, although she couldn't even imagine the conflict within the foreigner's mind.
Anna almost felt anger towards Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, knowing they would not show any sign of clemency. And then, the fondness she felt for the brothers made her consciousness reprimand herself, for she could never condemn the two of them, neither Naraku as well. She prayed to the Goddess that the spider hanyo could find a way to survive.
After a while, the carriage left the ground and, evolved by the purplish spherical forcefield, it flew in the skies till it reached the shore. The lass was taking a nap by then, yet the ocean's scent got into her nostrils and made her wake. As soon as she saw the sea, an indescribable feeling of missing of the good girls whom she has lived together, as of the elder that used to give her councils grew into her core.
I will never see them again. She breathed in and out slowly, controlling her emotions. Anna's eyes were already swollen and sore because of crying so hard in the hours before. There was no other way though, she always intended to leave and now it was even more necessary, for if anyone would figure that Naraku has left an heir, what would be of this child? No, at least the baby Annabelle would save.
They landed on a wood nearby the harbor, from there the chariot moved by land. Kagura got down and lifted a hand to Anna.
"Here is were our ways part." The yokai smiled and said.
"Kagura, why don't you come with me?" She asked while accepting the aid, then her feet touched the floor. "You will enjoy Scotland."
"I am sorry, but I can't." The demoness released Anna's fingers. "I still want to see and live a plenty of things in here... but someday, certainly I will travel around the world and visit other lands, when the time comes I shall find you." She softly touched her friend's shoulders.
"I don't want to be alone..." The lass whined, holding the baboon pelt covering her own forms.
"You won't be." Kagura glanced at the foreigner's belly. Annabelle understood the silent gesture and just resigned herself with the yokai's choice.
"Until one day then..." Anna lightly embraced Kagura. "And thank you, from the bottom of my heart."
"We are even." Although embarrassed by the enclosure, she placed a hand over Belle's back and softly stroked it. "Off you go now! It's the boat on the left corner!" Kagura pointed a hand, showing the direction.
"Oh, one more thing..." Annabelle mentioned before looking at the shore, parting the embrace, but still resting hands over the demoness' arms. "How did you know where to find me?"
Kagura chuckled first, then said: "it's not like there are a lot of 'exotic pilgrim foreigners', wearing a baboon pelt, singing strange songs around these lands, you see? And when I came to learn this curious stranger has taken the path leading to the 'dark purple clouds', there was no doubt left.I just followed the trail." She sighed.
The ginger lass parted lips, thinking of what could be said, yet the only words she found, knowing that Kagura could have refused to pay any aid to Naraku and herself, were simply: "thank you again, my best friend." Moved, she smiled, and could swear to see the crimson eyes flickering after hearing her sayings, were Kagura's cheeks blushing? The demoness even looked cute while getting Anna's hands and clumsily moving them away.
"That boat won't stay there forever, woman. Hurry up!" She folded arms and looked aside for an instant, but in the end a smile adorned her face, and then they giggled together for a brief moment.
"Right..." The foreigner breathed in, when her friend moved away and left she finally turned to the beach and beheld two men climbing a wooden ramp, both carrying her golden harp to the caravel. Her legs shivered while the lass got stuck into some memories: Hitomi's serene smile in the night he helped her to escape the castle, the promise he made to keep that angelic instrument with him so she would have a reason to come back. And then, the harp got into Naraku's hands and Anna played it's strings to him as one day she has done to her dearest young master. After abandoning her in the forest, the hanyo gave all her clothes back, the harp however, remained in his domain. In a certain way, it has been like the arachnid has taken Kagewaki's vow to himself. Yet now, the aurum object was being pushed through the ramp, at last returning to Annabelle's grip, while the two loves of her life were staying behind. There would be no means to come back to Kagewaki Hitomi, nor to Naraku.
A pounding ache in her stomach made Anna lean ahead when walking towards the ship.
A man came near, his hair was brown and his rounded eyes had a beautiful olive green shade, half of his face was covered by thick, mid beard. Surely he was a foreigner, just like her, could the fellow be a member of the crew?
He said something, and for the little Annabelle could understand, the man was presenting himself as captain and asking if she was alright. The lass nodded in response, accepting his aid to go up the ramp, then out of nowhere she heard a familiar voice calling from behind:
"Miss Anaberu!" It was Himawari, bringing in hands a net full of fishes inside.
To be continued...

Hey, people! So that's what Naraku was scheming since he had that conversation with Byakuya. :')
Did you like Kagura's development in here? I confess I really am fond of this character and her death in the original series broke my heart. So, I wanted to give her a different fate, I hope you have enjoyed it as well.
As for Kanna, when I wrote this fic I didn't spare much time giving her the attention that nowadays I think she deserved. Could I have changed it when translating the fic to English? Yep, I could, but I decided not doing so, for the story is already too long, and it wasn't my intention to change every character's plot, just the ones I thought it would be convenient to my narrative, and also, it would be far too Ooc for Naraku to release everyone of his incarnations for Annabelle's sake. Don't you agree?
Well, this is all for today, I'm still sighing with twinkling eyes after finishing this chapter, cause although all the angst involved, Anna and Kagura's friendship warms my heart still. BFFs! Awn!!! :3
See ya soon, kissuuuuus!!!!
