Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha or crew; that pleasure belongs to Rumiko Takahashi, Viz and Sunrise. Please don’t sue me; I’m poorer than dirt. I write only to amuse and don’t make any money at all. Really. It’s sad. This is a YAOI (man lovin’ man) and if that offends you, then I ask that you please stop reading and find something you would enjoy rather than wasting your time flaming me.
Genre: Romance, Angst, YAOI

Notes: I know I said I was done with Inu/Miro, but I guess I was wrong. I’ve come to enjoy this pairing and I thought I’d do it differently than I did in “The Night They Were Alone”.
Boys That Bathe Together…
“Kagome was naked the first time you saw her? Why am I not surprised?” InuYasha growled.
“It’s not my fault. I was there first,” Miroku replied. “But the first time you and I spoke, do you recall what you said to me?” InuYasha looked over at him.
“I called you a thief,” InuYasha answered. “Because you are.”
“Actually, I meant your comment ‘we can’t all be blessed with good looks and brains,’” Miroku quoted. “Such an odd thing to say to another man.” InuYasha blushed and looked away, crossing his arms.
“I don’t remember that,” InuYasha muttered.
“Oh, yes, it was quite clear.”
“So I called you a stupid pretty boy,” InuYasha said. “What of it?”
“Tell me why it is that you never take the next step with Kagome? Why do you insist that you are not involved?”
“Leave me alone,” InuYasha grumbled. Miroku leaned over to InuYasha.
“Do you lean that way?” Miroku asked.
“Excuse me?” InuYasha yelled, leaping to his feet. “You take that back!”
“Kagome is beautiful. Anyone with eyes can see that, yet you not only insult her looks, but rebuff her advances.”
“I made the first move, you know!” InuYasha growled. “I tried to kiss her and she hit me.” He sat back down huffily and turned his back to the monk, shoving his hands into his sleeves.
“You know, when I first saw you fight, I was quite impressed. Especially when you began ‘waling on’ the ink demons, as Kagome put it.”
“You tryin’ to tell me somethin’?” InuYasha grunted.
“Maybe not,” Miroku murmured. InuYasha glanced over his shoulder at Miroku and was about to ask him something, but the girls chose that moment to reappear.
“Your turn!” Kagome said, stretching happily. The men stood up and walked silently to the hot water, then glanced at each other. Miroku’s line of questioning had made them both uncomfortable and they turned their backs on each other as they took their clothes off. They refused to look at each other as they got in the water, although as soon as their lower bodies were covered, they relaxed in the comfortable spring.
“Why did you decide to become a monk?” InuYasha asked.
“My father was one and his father before him,” Miroku answered.
“Yeah, but it’s obviously not for you. I mean, you’ve got power and everything, but you’re rather stuck on possessions and worldly comforts,” InuYasha said, scrubbing his hair with some soap that Kagome had given him for bathing. He passed it to Miroku and the monk gave him a dirty look as he took it.
“No one’s perfect,” he replied, irritably.
“Well, that goes without saying where you’re concerned,” InuYasha teased.
“Why are you picking on me?” Miroku asked, using another of Kagome’s phrases.
“You started it,” InuYasha grumbled, “With your ‘do you lean that way’ comment.”
“I was simply asking what I think was a valid question,” Miroku said.
“And I was simply stating the obvious,” InuYasha shot back. “You’re flawed.”
“You make it sound like I’m defective,” Miroku grumbled. “I’m not bad about everything,” he said. “I may not practice what I preach, but I do believe it.”
“So you’re saying that you lean that way,” InuYasha twisted his words. Miroku glared at him for a minute, then turned and set the soap down on a rock. “What are you doing?” InuYasha asked nervously, taking a step back from the angry monk.
“Showing you that I’m not flawed in every way,” Miroku answered, then grabbed the hanyo and kissed him. InuYasha broke the kiss, sputtering and slid away in the water.
“You lecher!” he yelled. “You’ll hit on anything that moves!”
“That’s not true,” Miroku responded. “I just appreciate great beauty,” he said, sticking his nose in the air and picking the soap back up. InuYasha had sunk down in the water, his ears back and was grumbling until Miroku said that. One ear twitched back curiously.
“Did you just call me beautiful?” he asked, surprised.
“Why not? Just returning a compliment,” Miroku responded, lathering his own hair.
“I didn’t say you were beautiful!” InuYasha protested, rinsing his hair out. “I just said you were good looking.”
“Aha! So you do remember!” Miroku crowed, dropping the soap. “Oops.”
“Like I’m falling for that!” InuYasha said. “You can get it.”
“Falling for what? I didn’t drop it on purpose!” Miroku said, kneeling and feeling around for the slippery bar.
“Puh-lease,” InuYasha scoffed. “You take every chance you get to grab ass…” InuYasha stopped. “You always did seem a bit too interested in butts to me.”
“Well, they are my favorite feature on the human body,” Miroku answered, standing up triumphantly with the soap.
“I like eyes,” InuYasha said. Miroku glanced over at him and caught InuYasha staring. InuYasha looked away with a blush, then waded back to the rock next to the monk and held out his hand for the soap. Miroku set the soap there and let his fingers catch InuYasha’s. He turned InuYasha’s hand over and stroked his fingers.
“Hands are very close on my list of favorite features,” Miroku admitted and looked into InuYasha’s eyes. He released the hanyo’s hand and slid back in the water, sitting on a shallow shelf that left most of him submerged. InuYasha started washing his body and Miroku watched. Rather than turn his back, InuYasha turned to face Miroku as he washed his chest. He watched the monk’s eyes as he ran the soap and his hands over his skin. Miroku watched his hands as they slid over the muscled planes of his torso. InuYasha set the soap down and dipped down in the water, completely submerging. He crawled along under the water, wishing he could swim like Kagome, and then emerged right next to Miroku.
The monk jumped in surprise and InuYasha smirked. His hand shot out and caught Miroku’s head, pulling him off the shelf and into his body so that he could kiss him. Miroku didn’t pull away as he had, but happily gave into the kiss. When InuYasha finally broke it, Miroku sighed.
“I thought you said you didn’t lean that way,” Miroku said.
“No, I told you to take it back,” InuYasha corrected, reaching out to touch Miroku’s slick chest. He slid his hands up and down it like he had when washing his own. An idea occurred to him and he knelt in the water and licked the water from the monk’s chest. Miroku shuddered.
“What are you doing?” Miroku asked.
“Helping you bathe,” InuYasha responded. “You were taking too long with the soap. I think this will be more efficient.” Miroku gasped as the soft tongue covered every inch of his chest, then began working on his shoulders and neck. “Can’t forget to wash behind the ears,” InuYasha whispered before licking Miroku’s earlobe, tracing the metal there. Miroku hummed appreciatively, reaching around and stroking the hanyo’s back.
“Shall I return the favor?” Miroku asked, then leaned in and licked InuYasha’s skin, marveling at how sweet it tasted from the water. He licked in the same way the hanyo had done, lifting the boy in the water as he moved lower to keep from having his head submerged. “Hmm,” Miroku murmured, “It seems I can bathe you no lower than this,” he said, licking InuYasha’s abdomen.
“Heh, you wanna clean lower?” InuYasha asked with a wicked grin on his face. He put his hands on the stone ledge behind him and lifted himself out of the water, leaving himself bare. He suddenly blushed and covered himself, though, as Miroku stared at the engorged appendage between his legs. Miroku reached out and moved InuYasha’s hands with his own and let his tongue slide along the momentarily hidden length. InuYasha gasped and his hand convulsed around Miroku’s at the contact. Miroku glanced up to see InuYasha looking at him in wonder. He looked surprised and shy.
“Are you a virgin?” Miroku asked, not surprised, but sympathetic.
“Aren’t you?” InuYasha asked. Miroku blushed.
“No…” he said. InuYasha’s eyebrows went up. ”But I have only lain with women.” InuYasha looked away, his ears back.
“Shit, make me feel like a loser,” InuYasha said. Miroku didn’t mean to bring InuYasha down, certainly not literally, and he licked the hanyo’s thigh, eliciting a small gasp.
“You are not a loser, InuYasha. I wouldn’t have stayed around if you were,” Miroku told him, running his hand up InuYasha’s leg, over his hips and across his abdomen, enjoying the way the muscles twitched under his hand. InuYasha became hard again and Miroku could see his pulse twitching the place he was ‘cleaning’ a moment before. He returned his mouth there and InuYasha leaned back until the side of the cliff supported him. Miroku did a very thorough job of bathing InuYasha with his mouth and was rewarded when the hanyo began vocalizing how much he was enjoying it.
Miroku watched InuYasha’s face as the boy grew closer to climax. His breathing was ragged, his lips parted and his eyes shut tight. He didn’t seem to know what to do with his hands and was holding them out awkwardly. Miroku lifted his left hand to clutch one and InuYasha grabbed it with such force that Miroku made a sound, which made InuYasha, who immensely enjoyed the vibration from the sound, cry out with pleasure.
Miroku squeezed InuYasha’s hand and concentrated so hard on what he was doing that he almost missed the escalating moans that warned him InuYasha was there. A moment later, hot liquid filled his mouth and he feared his hand wouldn’t survive his friend’s grip as his orgasm went on longer than any Miroku had ever had. When InuYasha finally relaxed, Miroku dipped down into the water to wash his mouth out, not particularly a fan of bitter tastes.
When InuYasha slid into the water, completely relaxed from the ordeal, Miroku caught and supported him, holding him to his chest. InuYasha turned heavy-lidded eyes to him and surprised him with a deep kiss. Miroku was still unsatisfied and the kiss fueled his lust, but he didn’t say anything, allowing his friend to bask in the afterglow. He settled down onto the shelf in the water he had sat on earlier, holding InuYasha in his lap. He chuckled in amusement when he imagined what they must look like. InuYasha had his eyes closed for a moment and Miroku thought he looked the most peaceful he had ever seen him.
Then those golden eyes opened and met his and his tongue darted out to wet his lips. “It’s not fair if it’s only me,” InuYasha said. Miroku barely felt him move before InuYasha’s hand wrapped around his own need. Miroku’s breath caught for a moment at the contact, then InuYasha’s lips pressed against his own. InuYasha pushed Miroku up onto the ledge he had sat on and lifted his leg out of the water. He started at the ankle and worked his way up with his tongue, doing a much more thorough job of bathing Miroku than the monk had done on his lower body.
InuYasha licked along Miroku’s hips, avoiding the trembling appendage with his mouth, although he let his cheek brush it, driving Miroku half crazy. He licked all around until Miroku wasn’t twitching with every stroke of the tongue and then moved there abruptly. Miroku caught InuYasha’s hair in his right hand, burying his fingers deep in the hot, wet strands and cried out softly. Miroku felt the pleasant heat and pressure moving along his length, rolling it with his tongue, and filling him from tip to the depths of his insides with pleasure. He was amazed at the sensations. This was a first for him and he found he liked it even more than the inside of a woman. He was shocked and amazed and building to climax very quickly. It came over him in a blinding rush and he heard himself cry out as though from afar. When he was able to think again, he was pressed against InuYasha’s chest, the hanyo’s hand over his mouth while he searched the darkness with his ears back.
“Think you were loud enough?” InuYasha hissed. Miroku’s eyes widened. He hadn’t really been aware of his volume. He smiled against the hand at his mouth and it went away.
“Sorry,” Miroku whispered. “Did one of the girls say something?”
“No, but I hear them coming.” InuYasha shoved away from Miroku and pretended to be thoroughly engrossed in bathing. Miroku ducked his head into the water, washing off the sweat that had beaded on his forehead and had no trouble relaxing. He was still feeling slightly unreal and floating from his orgasm.
“InuYasha? Miroku!” Kagome yelled. Miroku concentrated on just resting and floating serenely for the moment.
“What?” InuYasha called back, shooting Miroku a dirty look. Miroku blushed, but it wasn’t very visible in contrast to his already flushed skin that he could, thankfully, blame on the hot water. “Hey!” InuYasha yelled as they broke into view. Kagome turned scarlet and spun around.
”Are you alright, houshi-sama?” Sango asked, looking around suspiciously.
“Yes, why wouldn’t I be?” Miroku asked innocently.
“We heard you call out,” Sango answered.
“I am afraid you are mistaken,” Miroku said. “Though, while you are here, you could enjoy a second bath if you wanted,” he said, smiling shakily. He let the smile go, knowing that he was still too spent to make it look real. Sango blushed and turned around.
“Hmph. Must have been somewhere else,” Sango muttered as the girls walked away. InuYasha treaded water back to shore and Miroku reluctantly followed him. Right then, all he wanted was to float leisurely in the water. But if InuYasha left, he had to as well. He climbed out of the water and nearly fell under his own weight. He brushed the water off his skin and slid his clothing on.
“That was certainly enjoyable,” Miroku said as he tied his robe closed.
“Huh? Oh, yeah. Baths are always really relaxing,” InuYasha answered.
“Well, yes, but I meant the rest as well,” Miroku said, a little perplexed.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” InuYasha said slowly, his voice deep. Miroku was taken aback. He opened his mouth to protest, but InuYasha cut him off. “Nothing else happened; you hear me? It was just a bath.” With that, InuYasha stalked off, leaving behind a very confused and slightly hurt Miroku.

Miroku had actually been surprised by his reaction to InuYasha’s dismissal the night before. While he wasn’t expecting declarations of love, he also didn’t expect the entire thing to be forgotten as soon as it had faded. He tried to maintain a cheerful façade, but couldn’t bring himself to make any lecherous comments. Sango and Kagome seemed to be very worried about him, but he wasn’t in the mood to reassure them. InuYasha seemed just as touchy as himself and neither of them said anything to the other for the entire day.
By the next day, both were back to normal. Miroku decided that the one night stand with InuYasha was just like all the women he had bedded and returned to harassing Sango until she regretted worrying about him the day before. It was almost a week from the hot springs when InuYasha caught him off guard him one night. They had been traveling through very dangerous ground and suffered many fights that ended with frustration, escaped youkai and injured comrades, so Kagome had to go back to her time to get more first aid supplies. That night, when Miroku was quietly meditating under the stars, InuYasha’s shadow fell over him.
Startled, he glanced up into the hanyo’s face. InuYasha was looking up at the stars himself, his eyes almost glowing in the moonlight. Then he looked back down at Miroku and the monk reacted with surprise. His normally gruff expression was gone, replaced by the same shy look he had given him in the bath. “InuYasha?” Miroku queried. The hanyo pounced.
InuYasha, whose expression was now desperate as he leaned down to catch Miroku’s lips, slammed the monk into the ground. Bewildered, but aroused, Miroku kissed him back, enjoying the feeling of their tongues sliding across each other and their silken lips almost warring. He didn’t stop InuYasha as he opened his robes and sighed from the yearning building inside as InuYasha began sucking and nipping at his exposed skin. He tried to push InuYasha back so he could undress him as well, but the hanyo kept him pinned firmly to the ground.
InuYasha leaned back and pulled his haori and kimono off impatiently, tossing them to the side, then lay back down against Miroku, rubbing himself against the monk’s leg. Miroku kept trying to participate and InuYasha kept pushing him away. Finally, the monk gave up and lied back without moving. InuYasha pulled at their remaining clothes and touched Miroku’s body, running his hands up and his claws down it. Miroku ran his fingers against InuYasha’s chest and the boy leaned down to kiss him again. Then he rolled Miroku over onto his stomach and pulled his hips back and up. Miroku was confused only for a moment, and then he was in pain.
InuYasha’s abrupt entrance caused Miroku to cry out and the hanyo reached around his waist to begin pleasuring him. It was a minute before Miroku was able to enjoy it, then all the pain was gone as InuYasha hit something inside of him that made him glad for the boy’s hold on his waist. It kept him from collapsing under the intensity of the feeling, which grew with each thrust of hip and stroke of InuYasha’s hand. Miroku bit into the cloth covering his right wrist to keep from crying out and alerting Sango again. No sooner had the cloth filled his mouth than the orgasm struck him.
It was from deeper inside his body this time, rolling in waves and he was almost screaming into his wrist, trying to deal with the ecstasy that was so overwhelming it was almost painful. He wasn’t sure how long it would have lasted if InuYasha hadn’t pulled out, but he was glad for the break. His heart was thundering and he was aching, however in a good way. He looked next to him at the hanyo lying next to him, on his back, breathing hard. He wondered if this ‘hadn’t happened’ as well. He watched InuYasha as he caught his grip and stared at the night sky.
InuYasha’s eyes finally slid to meet Miroku’s, but the shy vulnerability and desperation was gone. They were almost frightened now, then anger wiped it away and he sat up, grabbing his clothes. Miroku sighed and grabbed his own clothing, pulling it on gingerly. InuYasha was watching him warily and Miroku had to make a snide remark.
“We really should do nothing more often,” he said as he walked by InuYasha. He didn’t look back, but he heard the soft ‘feh’ shot at his back.

The weeks passed the same, with InuYasha coming to Miroku in a nearly panicked state, lying with him and then pretending nothing had happened. At first, Miroku was fine with it; glad for the release and the way it drove away his loneliness. He even looked forward to the frantic looks that warred with tenderness playing across InuYasha’s face. But there was always the end and the fear and anger that chased the hanyo away. And Miroku was growing attached to InuYasha. More than attached, he was afraid he was falling in love with his best friend. They continued their friendship as though nothing happened at night when they were alone and Miroku sometimes forgot that they played a game where they were nothing more. He adored the way InuYasha worried over him when he was injured, prized their friendly banter and looked for him every night.
When he lied next to InuYasha in those few minutes after they had sex, he faked the distance that InuYasha wanted. He pretended he could tell him that he cherished the way InuYasha looked at him, the way he touched him. Every time the hanyo ran off now, Miroku remained behind, naked in body, guarded in soul. He forced himself to flirt with Sango, deliberately sabotaging his own advances and flirting with other women in front of her. Part of the reason he did this was to drive InuYasha into a jealous fit. He had seen it in the hanyo’s eyes and sometimes even in his actions.
One time when he flirted shamelessly with Sango, InuYasha had attacked him that night, despite their companions being in human hearing range. He had forced Miroku to remain silent, lest they be discovered and gave him a mind-shattering orgasm to fight against. Miroku was a vocal man and he hated restraining himself in that department, but knew neither InuYasha nor Sango would forgive him if they were discovered.
He kept up the charade with Sango also for the reason that, if InuYasha would not declare their relationship, then he would see to it to secure a future for himself. When Sango wasn’t driven away by his lechery, he knew he had found a rare jewel of a woman. So he continued pushing her, testing her, because he could never be faithful to a woman. Not that he honestly expected to have a future. He felt it was most important to enjoy the short life he would have. So he never stopped InuYasha and never thought long about how his heart was feeling.
At least, not until the night that InuYasha snapped.
“I can’t keep doing this,” InuYasha snarled, pushing Miroku to the ground. “It has to stop.”
“You are the one who seeks me out,” Miroku said, his calm voice belying the pain twisting in his heart. “I have always respected your wishes to never speak of—” He was cut off by the claws at his throat. His eyes went wide and his breath caught. Was this how he would die? His throat torn out by his best friend—his lover?
“Why do you let me?” InuYasha growled, his hand convulsing around Miroku’s windpipe, cutting off his air. “When I thought I had lost you to the poison…” The monk saw the tears this time as they fell, against InuYasha’s will, to land on Miroku’s cheek. He didn’t know what to say, he felt his own tears burn at his eyes, but pushed them back. He had never shed tears over InuYasha and didn’t intend to start now—even if he was ripping his heart out of his chest.
“You treat me like a whore,” Miroku hissed back. InuYasha’s grip weakened. “For all these months, you’ve treated me like nothing more than a friend and sometimes less than that. I’ve contented myself to being your whore,” Miroku put no emphasis on the word beyond its repetition, but InuYasha flinched away as though he had been slapped. “I let you use me because I want you.”
“That’s the problem,” InuYasha said quietly, looking away. “I’m not using you. I want you. More than anything. I fight it; I try not to come to you. But ever since that night in the bath…” InuYasha sighed. “I’m so fucking confused,” he said heatedly. “I love Kikyo… I love Kagome… and I love you.” Miroku’s mouth fell open in shock. His heart slammed into his chest and everything felt light and unreal.
“Am I dreaming?” he whispered. InuYasha shook his head.
“I wish you were,” the hanyo answered. “I just want it to never have happened,” InuYasha said, his head hanging, looking lost as he knelt there, facing away.
“Then stop coming to me. Let us pretend it never happened,” Miroku said, rolling his head to the side. InuYasha said something, but Miroku couldn’t hear him. “What?”
“I don’t want to,” he repeated, clenching his fist. Miroku felt a strange detachment wash over his body. Nothing felt real, it was like a nightmare where he couldn’t control anything, even himself. He felt a chill, despite the warm weather, and it sank through his skin, raising the hairs, into his flesh and bone. His blood suddenly seemed too hot for his body.
“So this is where we go our separate paths?” he asked. His voice didn’t sound right and there was a buzzing filling his ears.
“Yeah,” InuYasha said, then stood and walked away. Miroku stared up at the stars, his chest aching from the pounding of his heart, his lungs burning and soon, his eyes joined them. Hot trails ran down into his hair, cold once they touched. He could feel his pulse in every part of his body. The midnight blue sky blurred until all he saw was color. His breath hitched and he closed his eyes, fighting it.
He rose to his feet, slowly. The ground didn’t seem to really be under them. He walked away, refusing to look back and refusing to say good-bye. In his heart, he knew he had lost everything. So he began running, running to his fate. He pushed his feet against the earth as hard and fast as he could, until the wind pushed at his skin and eyes, his legs burned and his chest stung from the exertion so late at night. He didn’t stop to sleep; he just kept pushing until it was like he hit a wall. Everything crashed down as he fell to the earth, letting himself hit without any attempts to cushion the impact. He never felt it anyway.
