Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha, nor make money from this story. |
Cepheus: welcome to the first chapter of my fic! ^_^ cheers! *MF jumps around excitedly* I hope you will like this! I need to point out some things. Please, bear with me. Important things!
I am Italian. English is not my first language. So the best thing you can do is to point out my mistakes in the reviews so I can become better
I have a BETA reader named OnyxLight, you can go read her fics too, shes great!
Its hard to actually choose this kind of pairing for a fic, I mean, InuYasha seems to hate both Kouga and Sessh, Sessh hates Inu and I think he despises Kouga and Kouga hates Inu -dunno with Sessh though. So at first this will move up slowly. Bear with me, its important to keep charas at bay, especially if I have to destroy the hate and build up love.
Hope its not too OOC going.
And by the way, I hate Kagome. I hate Kikyou. I hate Jaken. I love Kouga. I love InuYasha. I love Sesshomaru. And I love Naraku. Simply as that. Though I wont have any Naraku goodness here, hes needed to be bad, after all.
Youkai do really age slowly. A youkai can die with his appareance not older than fourty when hes way over a thousand year, but they dont often get to live that much -they usualy get killed before they can show their senility. You know, when you see olders like nut Totosai, he may be over three thousands years since hes so old. So respect him -duh, I do not though.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Rating= at start, T, may get higher
Summary= Naraku isnt the only problem InuYasha is going to have. A stronger youkai, coming from an old rivalry between clans, is now up to have his revenge on them... Sesshomaru/InuYasha/Kouga threesome YAOI Probably Kagome bashing
Disclaimer= I will never own InuYasha. But I like it a lot, and I like to think stories for the charas -plus, I like bashing the ones I hate.
Warning= this is going to be YAOI, that means boy x boy relationship so dont like dont read. This will be INCEST too, between half brothers. This will be threesome, that means menàge a trois. Flames about that will be used to power up my fireplace.

Prologue: Sinyoo
Osuwari!
A loud scream echoed through the forest, followed by an equally loud thud, which meant InuYasha had been told to sit. It was nothing new, since the two of them went through same acting at least three or four times a day, but it was funny nonetheless.
The group had left Kaedes village in the early morning, intending to go seeking Naraku as soon as possible. Kagome had just returned from her time, taking with her a bag full of modern sweeties -such as bento, and ramen- and there was nothing that could stop them from their search.
Unfortunately, Naraku was nowhere to be found. His scent couldnt be found, not his manor or incarnations it was as if hed disappeared. InuYasha and the rest of the group knew better than be happy about this -the half demon would come back stronger than ever, and they could not let him do that.
Each of them had a special reason why they wanted to end Narakus life, could it be a lost love, a curse, or revenge, nothing mattered to them anymore, nothing other than the need to find him and kill him with their own hands.
He deserved to die, he deserved to feel twice the pain he inflicted onto others, and InuYasha, most of all, knew he was the one supposed to sign his death sentence.
In the meanwhile however, nothing could stop the quarrels that flare up way too easily.
Miroku shook his head in defeat, trying hard to suppress a smirk as he waved his arms around, as if saying, why me? brushing on his way Sangos butt. Said Youkai slayer promptly flipped around and slapped the monk hard, leaving him with a sore cheek.
This too was usual.
Shippou and Kirara looked at each other sighing, looks like its me as the mature one in the group, Shippou said rolling his eyes.
Kirara giggled and yawned, jumping in Sangos lap as the girl sat down on the grass, curling up and dozing off.
What did you have to sit me for?! InuYasha was quick to recover, standing up and eyes flashing with anger and rage.
Though usually he could bear Kagome bossing him around, lately he found it more and more unnerving and annoying. She used the spell of the Mandela for every little quarrel they had, no matter the cause of it, just to prove she was the one that had the power to restrain him.
As if he was -a dog.
He often wondered if other demons would let her do as she pleased like this, and every time he came up with the same answer -no. He didnt like how she used the spell to make him look weak and powerless, it dawned on his pride and he had a very strong sense of pride after all.
He deserved to be treated fairly, not like this, he wasnt her dog slave. He didnt just help them in battles, providing them a great protection, but he also fought at their side, and gave them protection to the dangers they didnt know about -just like at night, when he would stay awake to exterminate the many lesser youkai that tried to sneak up on them, so to let the humans sleep and rest for the night.
And what did he receive back, nothing but laughs from the monk and the slayer whom scolded him because he pissed off Kagome, and Kagome sitting him repeatedly.
He was sick and tired of ending up slammed face flat on the ground; he would do almost anything to have them stop. He was a proud hanyou; there was nothing that mattered to him more than his pride.
And they kept humiliating him.
InuYasha shook his head slightly; he didnt like to think like this, he knew this was not him speaking, but that part of him that he inherited from his youkai father.
The silver haired half demon liked the company of these humans, the only ones that accepted him for what he really was, not hating him nor chasing him away. They accepted his being, never mocking him for what he was.
It wasnt true that InuYasha did not know about his connection with Tetsusaiga, he wasnt so numb not to realize the sword blocked out his youkai blood from taking him over, it was him speaking about it, he could feel it. But he also knew he couldnt depend on the sole sword forever -if it got broken, or if he and Tetsusaiga get separated, nothing would stop him from killing ruthlessly Kagome and the others.
He wasnt weak. He didnt want to; he had to depend solely on himself.
The thing was, something was happening within him.
He noticed that, even with Tetsusaiga at his side, at times he could feel his youkai blood boil inside him, trying to take control. It would pulsate deep in his veins, no matter how much he tried to ignore it.
Hed lived long before meeting with Kikyou, and not once had his blood troubled him like this, it all started the day -or was it better, the night?- he woke up from the spell-induced sleep.
He had been sealed to the sacred tree, his body aging slowly, but this was not the problem -in that short time he wasnt supposed to change in appearance though... Inu Youkai could live thousand years before starting to appear old, in human perception. He was half human, so his age would be a little shorter than the one of his own kind, but he was no exception -he would look thirty when he reached 200 years of age.
Not to mention -and hed been careful not to tell Kagome that- he was around his first hundredth. Though, he couldnt see the connection between his age and his awakening blood.
All he knew was that he needed to calm down, otherwise the others would find out his youkai blood wasnt at bay not even with his beloved sword near him. It was getting harder and harder to bear the humans actions toward him.
Thats why, without waiting for Kagomes reply, he bent down and jumped up high, reaching for a low branch of the tree above him, his clawed fingers grabbing the bark tightly before lifting himself up, silver hair dancing behind him.
Then InuYasha jumped high again, taking off with great speed, a last low growl towards his nigen friends as he disappeared from their sight.
As his feet steadied him on the branch he felt eager to put distance between him and the rest of the group, so he readied himself and jumped up again. He flew in the air, looking like an angel missing his wings, with his golden eyes shining and his hair swaying behind him, ears twitching above his head, a red blur in the air.
He landed hard on the top of another tree but he quickly jumped again not even stopping to look where he was heading to, excitement having the best of him.
He could feel his heart bumping in his chest madly, his breath not even ragged as he grabbed another branch, his weight supported by his right hand as he swung to another tree, then another one, and another one.
He was excited, he felt he was free, his worries and his problems disappearing as he let the forest speak to him. The wind was blowing against his face, the leaves under his feet rustling, some birds chirping in the distance, and he felt as if he was part of it all.
With no one to care, but himself.
The rush of need hit him again, and he sped up even more if possible, the trees and the forest around him looking like a green and brown blur, his feet meeting with the grass, then the ground, then the bark of a tree and ground again, weeds crushing under his weight, leaves moving as he passed by, the scent of flowers, of musk and grass twirling in his nose, slightly seducing his senses, making no noise as he passed.
He felt... alive. He felt like this was where he belonged to -he just loved the forest so much.
As he disappeared in a quick blur, Kagome stared at his retreating back in anger. Lately he has been running away after a quarrel, as if InuYasha wanted to go away because he was always the loser. Kagome felt a rush of pride because she knew she reminded him she was the boss here, she taught him his place once again.
She was stronger! Ha! So there!
She smiled in satisfaction, and turned to the others. She liked the hanyou so much, she admitted twice to herself that she loved him, but he needed to know he couldnt treat her as if she were stupid. InuYasha needed to know Kagome was eager to show who she was.
She knew he would come back -he always did.
Hell come back eventually, when hes calmed down, Sango rolled her eyes. But why did you sit him this time? It was really a stupid reason!
He deserved it just because he dared to interrupt me! Hes so dumb at times! Kagome replied, sniffing. He need not forget he cant be rude to a girl -especially to me!
Sango sighed to herself -she noticed Kagome tended to be quite possessive and bossy with InuYasha, as if she were just happy to play with the spell on his neck. Okay, maybe it was just because Kagome was so young and had never lived in a harsh place like the rest of them, so she acted rather childish. But even if at first both Miroku and Sango liked to pick on InuYasha for his rudeness, now they were more and more to on hanyous side.
Kagomes great! InuYasha deserved this all right! Shippou jumped in Kagomes lap, being the last one still at her side, but Im starving now! Can we eat some of your good stuff Kagome-chan? he pleaded with puppy eyes.
Aa, little one, she replied kindly to him, beaming.
Ill eat InuYashas part too! he concluded, bouncing around them all as Sango and Miroku sighed together.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
After what looked like hours to him, InuYasha slowed down, landing on a tall tree in order to recover his breath a little, eyes shining, body aching to start up again. It felt wonderful, to run like that in the forest, feeling free, alive, alone. With nothing to restrain him.
The youkai in him made itself known, pulsating, but not painfully. On contrary, he liked the sensation. He could feel his whole body tingle, from his feet to the tip of his fingers.
Hed needed that -to just loosen up.
The fights against Naraku had gotten bloodier and it was harder to rest and to win against the apparitions he sent towards them, so as the baboon freak wasnt anywhere to be found, InuYasha wanted to recover as much as it was possible.
He loved to rest, that was ok, but he loved twice as much to fight. See your opponent fall before you, knowing you defeated him completely, his blood pouring out from his lifeless body, your muscles tensing up from the excitement of the battle...
He liked to win -he loved to. And even if he liked less to be defeated, InuYasha was not stupid enough not to learn from his defeats -he was a hanyou, many youkai defeated him during his life, but hed always won at the second round.
Obviously, the ningen's he traveled with would never understand what was winning for all youkai. It wasnt just a matter of blood hunger, or evilness. Many of them fought for lust of death and blood, okay, but many others didnt. It was a matter of surviving.
Being strong meant living another day... being weak meant facing defeat -and death usually followed shortly after.
InuYasha survived so many battles in his life, even though he was just a young hanyou, and even if he was growing stronger, there were battles he knew he couldnt win. He wanted to be strong because he wanted to live, just like he wanted to be a full demon because that way he would be accepted by his kind.
He never considered himself human, he rejected that part of him ever since his mother died, but now with Kagome, and even before with Kikyou, he often thought about ceasing his useless fight and let the Shikon no Tama turn him fully human.
Useless, harmless, but at the same time, accepted.
He wanted desperately to live.
Breathing deeply the cool air, shaking away these thoughts from his mind, he scolded himself. He didnt want to think that way, being human would mean turning his back on his heritage, and he couldnt do that.
As he closed his eyes, mentally wondering why he was so thoughtful lately, a strong scent began to fill his senses. He knew whose scent It was, and he didnt like it at all.
It was... Kougas scent.
He tensed up; he didnt want to meet the Ookami prince right now.
Ookami and Inu clans hadnt been enemies since the very start, back in the past both races held a strong bond, being two of the four stronger clans of all the territory. InuYasha heard his mother say that many times when he was merely a pup -she liked to tell him about his youkai heritage.
He could remember clearly her sitting at the head of his bed when he was little, at night, her shape standing against the soft light of the lanterns, smiling as she told him old stories, her long silky black hair gracing her loving face.
She looked so peaceful, so serene, before she died, leaving him alone.
Izayoi told him there were four powerful clans of demons that held the supremacy, those being Inu youkai -Dog demons-, Ookami youkai -Wolf demons-, Neko youkai -Cat demons- and Kitsune youkai -Fox demons-.
You are one of the Inu clan, Izayoi told him with a proud smile, making InuYasha smile too. Never forget that.
She continued saying the clans had an agreement not to fight against each other, their territories large enough not to bother with others. It lasted many centuries, the families ruling all Japan without terrorizing humans or lesser demons. It was a period of peace.
But then, the Neko clan left, never to come back, their instinct and love for the mountains taking the best on them. The Kitsune clan broke down and its members scattered around all of Japan, leaving the remaining two clans to hold the power and keep the balance.
At first it had been easy; the two families were bonded more than the others because of the relative ness between the dog and the wolf heritage. Then... something bad happened.
The heir of the Inu clan died and the fault was placed to the Ookamis clan. The Inu lord, who at that time was Inu-Taishos father, moved against the wolf family, and that led to a bloody war and both clans reduced greatly by many deaths. The war continued over two centuries, ending in an uncertain truce that, was induced mostly because of the many dead, than by the desire of reestablishing the peace.
After that, none of the two clans ever tried to reconcile with the other, fighting instead when they happened to be face to face.
Thats when Sesshomaru was born, and years later, Inu Taisho met Izayoi.
InuYasha sighed. He himself had no real issues against the Wolf prince -unless he considered the fight between them for Kagome- and Sesshomaru never thought he was part of the family, so there was nothing that forced him to fight Kouga. But even if his brother didnt consider him worthy of his notice, family pride was still family pride. He belonged to the Inu clan, as his mother told him proudly, and he was bound to fight with Kouga, part of the Ookamis.
Said dark-haired wolf appeared below him, under the big tree, and while sniffing he lifted his head, meeting InuYashas eyes with his own as the wolf prince smirked satisfied, look whos up there, its mutt face! What are you doing up there, trying to turn into a bird?
InuYasha sighed and let himself fall down, landing with grace in front of Kouga. Usually he was eager to have a decent fight with the annoying Wolf, but this time he couldnt care less. His youkai blood was still pumping inside him after the long run, and if he engaged in a fight he knew it would be harder to keep it at bay.
He didnt want to lose control of himself with that fucking stupid wimpy wolf here, that wouldnt be fair.
What do you want, kisama? he spat, his usual arrogance clear on his face and in the voice as it was expected. Im in no mood to fight, go piss off someone else!
Kouga bared his teeth, already growling, You need to show respect to a full youkai like me, none to say an ookami!
Yeah, like, I would bow before your filthy being, begging your mercy! Keep dreaming, youre as stupid as youre entire weak clan is!
Kouga stopped thinking clearly as he lunged forward, claws ready to strike at InuYasha, the shards of the Shikon no Tama activating to improve his speed. He decided to come because he sensed InuYashas presence alone, with no trace of Kagome near him, and his smell was slightly different from the one he was use too. Curious as he was, he wanted to find out why he was this way.
But now... nothing mattered anymore, he dared to insult, not just him, but also his clan! He deserved to be punished!
InuYasha narrowed his eyes as he saw Kouga leap at him, and prepared to evade the attack, knowing the others speed was great and he needed to keep a close eye on that.
Thats when his youkai blood kicked in.
Kouga lunged at the hanyou with claws outstretched, missing him as InuYasha jumped to the right, then the Ookami sped up, he too shifting to the right, as his other hand waited for InuYasha to come.
But he didnt.
InuYasha grabbed a branch with his left arm and lifted himself up, turning swiftly facing the dread of Kougas claws ready to strike with his own. Kouga avoided the attack with a surprised growl -he didnt think InuYasha to be that fast. Not to mention the fact he looked as though he was concentrating - a thing he rarely did.
Kouga was sure about his suspicions when InuYasha fell on the ground on all fours, silver hair hiding his face. A dark aura slowly surrounding him, faintly but surely, as if having difficulty in doing so, and the Wolf prince felt a chill run down his back.
This was not the InuYasha he was used to fighting against.
Silver silky hair moved from the hanyous face as if invisible breeze hit it, and Kouga was faced with the Inu half demons eyes, which were turned a deep shade of gold mixed with scary bloody red.
What the fuck... the ookami thought, before he had to focus back on the fight as InuYasha lunged at him, arms outstretched, claws strangely looking longer, eyes shining with an amused glint.
He backed away quickly, but one of the claws hit his cheek, drawing a thin line of blood on his face. Kouga yelped in surprise, as his opponent licked the finger clean of blood, a smug smirk and a lust-filled glint in the dark eyes.
InuYasha! he growled, confused.
He felt shame dawn on him -he was actually scared of InuYasha.
It was like the silver haired hanyou was fighting to kill him... to taste his blood.
InuYasha lunged at him again, this time even faster, and Kouga moved in reflex, stepping to the right and catching the other on the face, blood trickling down InuYashas chin.
Kougas senses were filled by the strange scent coming from the blood, as if... as if...
The hanyou looked and smelled like... a full demon. Something he couldnt possibly be.
He couldnt think any more because he had to face the attack of the other, bloody golden eyes glowing with blood lust, fangs bared, body tense, and Kouga couldnt fight back. There was something deep within him that yelled at him to not kill the hanyou, and Kouga blamed it to be his desire not to hurt Kagome by having to tell her InuYasha was dead. But... there was something more.
He didnt like to fight that way. InuYasha looked like he was lost deep within himself, only a small part of him fighting.
He hated it. He even thought it would be better to have the old InuYasha back -that would be easier to stop too.
This InuYasha was... inhuman. Well, this was an understatement, since he wasnt fully human to begin with.
But he wasnt himself, it was as if he was possessed. Kouga felt he wouldnt like winning with him acting that way. It would be pride less, because him being from a powerful clan, respectful of traditions, fighting this way was going against the pride of his clan.
They kept on slashing at each other at full speed, neither of them prevailing on the other, and soon the smell of blood flooded the air, little wounds on their bodies. The scent only made InuYasha wilder, striking with impressive precision and strength, and Kouga had to completely use his Shikon no Kakkera power to continue avoiding the attacks.
At the end, they both fell heavily on the ground, panting hard, trying to recover through their ragged breaths, and thats when InuYasha took his control back.
InuYashas eyes flashed blood red once more, then they returned slowly to their normal color, a shiny gold, and the hanyou relaxed his muscles. It hadnt been easy, but with the help of Tetsusaiga and his tired body, he managed to lead the blood to sleep again.
Never... underestimate... me... again, he gasped, closing his eyes completely drained and out of energy.
A strained Kouga stared in shock at him -he smelled again like the InuYasha he knew! The strange scent of full youkai vanished as if it never existed. But until a moment before...
What the heck was that, mutt face?! Kouga asked while getting into a sitting position, glaring at the panting hanyou, you smelt... different!
InuYasha opened his eyes and stared back at him with angered expression, not... your business, you wimpy wolf, he replied.
You smelt like... full demon Kouga continued.
My youkai blood likes to have its go when it comes to fight wimpy wolves, InuYasha muttered.
He was astonished to hear Kouga snicker and then laugh hard, what are you laughing for?! he growled in rage.
Despite the insult, Kouga couldnt stop himself -InuYasha looked so relaxed and himself that Kouga couldnt help but think that the hanyou looked like he needed the fight.
You looked like you were in need of a good fight, he answered.
Neither of them knew why, but after their bloody battle, they felt more at ease, the tension faded away as they rested on the grass, relaxed and regaining strength.
Maybe it was because they never could stress out the rivalry between them in a fair and clean battle, due to Kagome always interrupting them with her desire to prevent any useless fights, or maybe because somehow they both needed to show off their strength, now they felt satisfied.
They just rested, enjoying the calm and the peace.
Where is Kagome, by the way? Kouga looked around. I was attracted by the strangeness of your smell and the fact that you were alone.
I needed to be alone for a while, InuYasha stood up and stepped towards a small bush, returning to his previous position with his hands full with berries. He started eating them, also licking some of the blood back into his system.
How do you know theyre not poisoned, Kouga sounded like he wished they were, but he was also amused. He too started licking his blood, his back resting against a giant rock.
I know how to survive in the forest, stupid wolf, was the angered reply, and then, I dont like how Kagome acts with me!
He was pissed off again, but they both knew they would not start another fight. They were tired and weary, but he was curious and there was nothing better to do in that moment, and they were speaking without insulting each other. InuYasha was speaking because it was rare he had another of his kind to speak with.
Why? he asked. Its because of the Mandela around your neck? Why are you wearing one, now that it comes to me?
Kouga never bothered to have a decent look at the rosary, but now that they were sitting there still, he could see it was a necklace with dark beads.
He remembered Kagome yelling at the hanyou some strange words, but he was too busy flirting with her to pay attention at him.
I dont like when she sits me, InuYasha growled lowly.
As the thought registered in Kougas mind the wolf started laughing again, this time harder, she sits you?! No way! Youre just a little dog pup!
InuYasha lunged at him but Kouga shifted evading his attack -both sitting back still after that.
Come on, I can understand, Kouga mildly snickered. But you are a puppy... I would never let her do that to me... Where is your pride?
Its not you with a spell around your neck! InuYasha growled ears flat on his head.
A light snicker, Cant break it, ne?
Humpf, InuYasha looked away, and there was a moment of deep silence, welcomed by both. He couldnt believe he was having a somewhat decent conversation with the Wolf Prince, at first they did try to kill each other but now...
You left because your Demon blood was asking for revenge, Kouga stated at last.
InuYasha stared at him in disbelief, how did you...
Its easy, dumb head, Kouga smirked with superiority. Your blood cant stand the broken pride of being under a nigens authority... you feel superior.
Thats how you feel around me as well, InuYasha sulked. Since he started the conversation, and they were in a position of quiet speech, the hanyou decided to pick up the subject he wanted. You cant stand to be near a hanyou.
Quite true indeed, youre a waste, Kouga replied.
Then why are you trying to have Kagome for yourself? InuYasha smirked looking at the Ookami Prince. You would have half breed cubs then.
Kouga blinked, he never thought about that, Youre smarter than you look, mutt face, he admitted. But...
He stopped. There was indeed nothing wrong in having hanyou cubs, just like there was nothing wrong in being hanyou... he mocked InuYasha about that only because it seemed the only insult the Inu half demon reacted to. He liked to fight with him, but he did not hate half breeds anymore.
It was popular belief they were weaker and useless, the shame of the youkai world, and at first Kouga himself thought that, but after his meeting with Kagome -she would soon become his mate, that was for sure- he managed to have a closer look at InuYashas fights, and even if he would never admit It, he admired the hanyou.
He was strong and determined; maybe a little too much at times causing him to rush Into things, but Kouga was too. However he didnt think hanyous to be as strong as full demons were, but they were not someone to despise that much.
Whats wrong in having hanyou cubs, then? InuYashas eyes flashed with something more than just anger, but the wolf couldnt understand what it was.
Kouga, being the smug bastard he was, decided to pick him up just a little more, enjoying the conversation -he couldnt do this with Ginta and the others. Theyre weaker, and they arent pure blood... they are the shame of the youkai world!
InuYasha bared his teeth, eyes flashing again, and this time Kouga could detect the emotion -hurt.
Why would InuYasha be hurt by that?
You talk just like the others, the silver haired hanyou hissed. As if we wanted to be like this, as if we wanted to be chased and mocked by both races... its not our fault, and still we take all the blame! His fists tightened at his sides, and Kouga frowned, this was past the usual rage he saw in the golden eyes. You try to kill us, you despise us, you hate us, but thats not our desire!
Kouga opened his mouth to reply, he couldnt understand why InuYasha was so enraged, but the hanyou cut him out, I am as strong as you, you know it, but you wont respect me because of what I am, you cant understand whats like being half breed! You grew up in a pack, protected and worshipped as the wanna be Lord of the Northern Area... you had never being chased, pursued, hated, mocked, every day wishing to survive but at the same wishing to die just to end the pain... InuYasha looked away, eyes darkening slightly. Rejected by both races, not belonging to either of them...
Kouga stood there speechless, a part of him feeling guilty and sorry for him. It was true, no hanyou asked to be born like this. Many hanyou in fact were killed because their blood had a taste so good, many full youkai wanted to have it, but they were treated like scum from the pure breed.
The ookami youkai closed his eyes briefly in wonder. He claimed to be a strong youkai, but he killed so many humans just to feed his pack. After meeting with Kagome he stopped killing humans and went against other youkai, the ones who dared to attack nigens. He hadnt been better than any other demon, before meeting with that human girl.
He remembered too well what his father used to tell him, about how in the past the clans were at peace without attacking anyone, not even nigens, living without spilling blood. Once, long time ago, they respected even hanyous.
And now he was talking with a half demon that made him feel almost guilty. That was hilarious.
He saw him fight. He saw how many times InuYasha stood up again after being hit almost to death, showing how strong and determined he was, so stubborn his human friends couldnt call him back as he risked his own life.
But this was what InuYasha has had to do since he was born, risking his life to prove himself worthy of notice.
You know, many years ago, we had two hanyou in our pack, Kouga wasnt looking at the other as he spoke, but he knew InuYasha was staring at him in astonishment.
He never ever told anyone that, not that any of them cared, it was a well kept secret. He now found himself comparing the other hanyou with what he had been told of the ones in his own pack -they were never treated as half breed, but since they were as strong as any other pack member, everyone forgot who they were born from. And now he was despising a hanyou like them, just because he wasnt a wolf?
One of the old wolves mated with a nigen female, who gave birth to one of them... the other was born from a male hanyou and one of us.
InuYasha blinked curiously, what?
Usually we dont speak of that, we tend to forget it, they were just like us, we never rejected their birth... but then they died to protect my own father, Kouga smirked at the stupefied expression of the silver haired half demon, I call you mutt just to pick on you a little!
InuYasha didnt know if he should feel relieved or angered. He settled on a deep frown as he scowled at the Prince of the Northern Lands.
Explain yourself, damn wolf.
Not all youkai hated hanyou, my pack respect them if theyre worthy our respect... this was getting too boring so he decided to end it with another mock, you sure youre worthy of it?
What do you mean, you kisama ookami?! InuYasha as expected fell into the trap. Kouga sighed, this was just too easy.
I mean, you cant go all wimpy every time Kagome sits you, either way you wont deserve the power, Kouga was looking seriously at him now. I heard her saying your brother doesnt accept you as his family because youre not pure blood. And I can understand why he does not want you as his relative! Youre not worthy of his notice! Hes the lord of the Western Lands, worshipped, respected, and feared; youre no one, a miserable half breed! Maybe you would need to become stronger, and he will decide youre worthy the honor... you cant just sit there whining, right? Besides, you two hate each other.
Tch, InuYasha glared at him. I dont hate Sesshomaru.
Thats not what you say to Kagome, Kouga smirked.
Shes a human, she would never understand the depth of the youkai bonds of family... even if my brother hates me, I would go and help him if in danger, because I would feel obligated to by our family ties, on the same note if he were ever to be murdered, Ill be obligated to go and revenge his death, InuYasha growled. You would do that with any of your pack, your family, so I would too with mine, Kouga stared at him but said nothing.
He was surprised by the serious tone -something rarely heard on the hanyous lips- and he was surprised by his maturity of his tone as well. Hed never heard the Inu half demon say something so smart before. Even if he acted like a child -better, as a pup- maybe he wasnt that stupid after all.
Why does he hate you then? Shouldnt he be tied too? Kouga knew this ran way deep, but he asked nonetheless. He looks like he wants to kill you, something I also want, if you step between me and my sweet Kagome, he was in duty to add to himself.
He does, InuYasha carelessly replied. I dont know, and I dont care, hell never be in danger, so Ill never help him, he shrugged, hes furious because our father gave me a good sword and gave him a useless one -again, it wasnt my fault, I didnt even want it in first place! He has a sword that can give back life instead of killing, this is amusing!
But the Lord has a sword of his own, I saw it, and the news of this blood starving blade spread easily in the country, Kouga looked as InuYasha glanced down at Tetsusaiga. Its name is Tokijin, right? Then why hes always trying to fight you?
InuYasha was slightly pissed off by the questions, but he replied nonetheless, I dont know really, maybe he takes revenge as seriously as I do.
InuYasha meant that Sesshomaru wanted to have the sword of their father because he still thought it belonged to him, no matter how many swords even stronger he could get -he wanted that one. He took it as a personal insult from their father to him.
Kouga decided to ask something else, since he had before his eyes the very brother of the Lord, Sesshomaru-sama is a bloody youkai, all demons in the country admire and fear him, but now they say hes keeping a young human girl with him, Kouga frowned. He always loved killing humans, then why is he protecting a girl?
I met her once or twice, her names Rin, InuYasha glared at Kouga. She was almost killed by your pack of wolves, the day we met.
Really? I do remember sending my pack to feed off a village, but I dont remember them killing a girl.
Sesshomaru used his sword Tenseiga to give her back life, InuYasha replied.
Kouga looked at him in disbelief, and then understanding dawned on him. Sesshomaru-sama has a complicated mind, he said calmly, but didnt tell InuYasha what he thought. But you admire him, right? Because hes what you would like to be.
InuYasha looked at him slightly pissed off, he didnt like talking about his messed up family, and he suddenly remembered he was supposed to hate this guy because he wanted Kagome and because he was an Ookami... it was his duty too. Both of them. He had revealed something he never even thought out aloud to himself, and to who? To one of his rivals and opponents... what a slip off.
He stiffened and tensed, wanting to know if Kouga was going to reveal to Kagome what he had told him.
He knew Kagome would be disgusted by this -knowing that if Sesshomaru would ever be in danger, InuYasha would drop her off and would go to help his brother, who more than once, tried to kill him.
But he doubted Kouga the Prince of the Northern Land would do that -family pride and ties were the same to all youkai, even Kouga would die to keep one of his pack safe.
Forget what I said, kisama Ookami, he forced his voice back to his usual mockingly tone, as he stood up. I was merely tired from our fight! I wasnt thinking when I said those things! Kagomes not here and she will never be yours, since you say hanyou are worthless, then never come back to us anymore, if you dont want to be killed by me!
Kouga looked at him confusedly, but understood InuYasha said too much about himself and didnt like it, especially since he didnt trust Kouga.
He decided to play along, even if he didnt find it amusing anymore to mock him. InuYasha was strong, far stronger than he appeared on the outside, because he endured something not many youkai would.
Kouga thought he could understand him more now, part of his past revealed, after he spoke so clearly and bluntly to him. But even if they spoke like this, they would and could never get along... family pride was at stake.
Plus, the owning of the strong nigen girl they both wanted.
Then you should head back to your owner, baka Inu! he laughed. Shell be crying since her faithful puppy left! And dont think Ill give up on her either, useless hanyou! Shes gonna be mine, remember it! Youre going to be defeated!
InuYasha sniffed in reply, tension leaving again, as he leapt towards the top of the tree, disappearing with few jumps in the direction of the place Kagome and the others were, feeling rather lighter now. Hed never spoke this openly to anyone and it felt good he told someone it all... even if it was his opponent Kouga.
But he cared nothing since he headed back to Kagome; he was feeling great and ready to go through a whole session of osuwari if needed!
...
Well...
It would be better not however.
Kouga looked at his retreating form, then a slight scowl appeared on his face at the prospect of returning to his pack after such a talk, but he didnt want to go to Kagome acting like a fool again either.
So he merely decided to head back to his home, his Shikon no Kakkera shining in his legs as he sped up, disappearing in a column of dust.
Things were different now, he thought, even if InuYasha didnt realize it. They would meet again, obviously, and they would fight as if nothing happened, but something did happen, and Kouga was sure to remember it.
Neither of them was aware of the shape hiding high in a tree, who heard all that both said, and after they both disappeared, stood there motionless, eyes lost in the distance where InuYasha went.

Here he comes! InuYasha! Shippou jumped up and down at the sight of the hanyou as he approached, and Miroku noticed he looked relaxed. He also noticed the little wounds already healing on his body, but decided not to ask.
Where did you go?! Kagome stepped forwards, angered, since he didnt come back sooner. What made you think you could leave?
InuYasha glared at her, but he was not pissed off this time. He replayed in his mind what Kouga said before, You cant go all squealer because Kagome sits you, or else you wont deserve the power, he couldnt let her affect his pride by crying and scowling when she used the spell on him. He would never have the respect he wanted so badly if he continued acting like a small child.
He wasnt her pup. He needed to show he was mature...
Youre not my master, Kagome, he snarled at her indignantly. If I feel like having some privacy, like you like to remind me you need, then I will have it.
He stepped to Shippou, who looked at him with eyes filled with curiosity, you smell like Kouga, he said.
Thats right, we had a fight! InuYasha boosted his ego up, he cant think he can boss me around! saying this he thought back at their fight, when the demon blood had its way in him.
He hoped to be able to control it better next time. There would obviously be a next time.
InuYasha realized he looked forward to it. Next time it would be a fair fight, them being at the best of their possibilities.
I wonder why you and Kouga like to fight against each other -you two are dog and wolf! Shippou frowned jumping around, since the very beginning you bickered like cat and mouse! And to think you are so similar...
InuYasha let his eyes fall on the little youkai, in wonder, then a thought flashed in his mind, Hey brat, would ya like to hear a story?
Shippou pouted, Im not a brat! but he looked at InuYasha with glowing eyes, expecting him to tell the story.
InuYasha smirked; picking up a fish Miroku left for him near the fire, and looked down at the young Kitsune youkai. Shippou was going to grow up without parents, alone, and Kagome wouldnt be forever near him to help him confront the dangers of the world.
But he could help him, because either way Shippou would grow up hating both youkai and humans, like InuYasha himself, or grow up being what he was expected to be.
He still was a Kitsune youkai, after all.

Cepheus: if I forgot to tell you all, this story takes place before the appeareance of the Shichinintai members -Jakotsu, Bankotsu, etc.
There wont be any hetero pairing, unless you want me to do MirokuSango, otherwise they will stay unpaired as well as Kagome.
I do own the story on the four clans, so do not steal. I believe Izayoi to be Inus mother. And Inu-Taisho or Inu no Taisho is his father... though that means general of dog and its not a proper name. But they never tell his name, so :P
Lord of the Western Lands -Sesshomaru (Inu Clan)
Lord of the Northern Lands- Prince Kouga (Ookami Clan)
Lord of the Southern Lands- ??? (Neko Clan)
Lord of the Eastern Lands- ??? (Kitsune Clan)
Lord of the Dragon Army- ??? (Later said)
I hope youll review to tell me what do you think! ^_^ bye!
PS= I know, in the manga the magnolia tree said to Sesshomaru InuYashas blood would end up having him lose his heart and mind -so Sesshy does something incomprehensibly nice and goes to stop InuYasha whos going all crazy in a village- but the thing with Tetsusaiga and his blood taking over even with it at his side will be explained later, plus InuYasha usually loses completely control when under his youkai bood, but youll see what I mean by saying he wasnt fully under it and he fought with precision later in the fic. Since this is a fanfic and I get to write what I want. So :P
PPS= one can respect the one he/she hates. Inu hates Naraku but doesnt respect him because Naraku plays dirty. But I bet he respects Sesshomaru, he always fight clean, both in the manga and in the anime. And I hate a lot of people, but I only respect few.
