The Taint of Ice
All five members of the Shinobi sat around the blazing fire. The peaceful night was filled with silent dread as they listened to everything the hanyou draped in the pelt spoke. Taking all types of missions was their calling in life. Their clan was one of elite ninjas, all up for grabs for the highest bidder. Now this hanyou sat in front of them trying to explain what he wanted done. There was a few snickers as the instructions were gone over. The job was actually something most Shinobi wouldn't dream of accepting. Their special abilities usually dealt with killing or stealing not seduction. That this man would sit before them and ask of such a thing was beyond humorous.
"I'll be having no part of it." Jin, the wind-master stood up and walked away from the small group. Killing someone or fighting was one thing but he wasn't too keen on seducing an innocent woman. A human female at that, what could the man be thinking? There was no way he'd lower himself to seduce a woman unless he wanted to actually rut with her. From the snickers coming from those he'd left behind, he was the only one that felt that way. It didn't surprise him, most of the Shinobi didn't have morals which is what made them what they were. He wasn't about to let it bother him, he wasn't going to take the job.
Touya leaned casually against the tree with questions flying in his mind. He could sense the power radiating from the hanyou but he was asking them to seduce a human girl. The man wouldn't go into detail as to why he wanted the girl seduced. The only reason he was giving was to split up the female and her companion. Which to Touya it told him a few things. The man himself had probably been jilted by the girl for this other man and wanted revenge. It was a classic story of getting back at those that had hurt him. So this other man had stolen his lover and now he wanted to cause hurt between the two. No female was worth getting that angry and bitter over, especially a human female. Yet it didn't matter to him what feelings this Naraku harbored. He might consider taking the job if the price was right. If the girl was human then most of his companions wouldn't stand a chance. Gama wasn't at all attractive and all humans were shallow. The more beautiful you were the better off your life was. The only one that might compete with him on looks was Jin and he would have nothing to do with it. The thought of rutting with a human female wasn't very appealing even if this Naraku said she was pleasing to the eye. Having a woman lay there while you plowed her wasn't what he looked for in a bed partner. He liked his women like he liked his opponents. They had to be full of life, the desire to concur shining in the depths of their eyes.
Naraku felt his hopes dwindle as he waited for someone to speak. He'd heard that the Shinobi would take on any job so he'd come to the edge of the youkai world hoping to find his trumph card. He was out of options now, this was his last resort. He'd tried numerous times to destroy Inuyasha but nothing ever worked. Now he knew what gave the hanyou his strength. It was Kagome that helped him become stronger and defeat him. The girl was a constant pain to him. Now that all the shards were accounted for she had to be elimanated somehow. He'd already tried killing her but had failed on several occasions. It was useless to try and control her, she was too pure of heart. Watching Inuyasha and Kouga bicker over the girl had given him an idea. Of course Kouga wasn't an option for his plan. The girl wasn't interested in the canine, even he could see that. He'd tried to use Kikyou as a means to come between the two but that too had failed. It didn't matter who Inuyasha loved because Kagome would stand by his side. The key was to make Kagome love another. Atleast involved with another enough to cause a permanent wedge between the pair.
His only worry now was which youkai would step up to accept his mission. The two sitting next to him would do it definitely but they were of no use to him. Kagome would never give them a second glance. They were both ugly and had no manners from what he could tell. The leader had his nose up in the air as if this request was beneath him. No doubt the man thought too highly of himself. The fourth man had already gave his decision so it left one possiblity. The man leaning against the tree trying to look uninterested. Naraku could sense the man's intrique as he spoke. The man's pose and manner spoke of someone sure of himself. Which would work well, he didn't need an idiot messing up his plans. It would take someone crafty and wise to accomplish the mission. Threatening them wouldn't get things done but he was willing to pay well for their services.
Touya sighed knowing he'd accept it. What did he have to lose? So he'd seduce some human tramp, maybe get a free piece of ass while making some money. Jobs were pretty much dead now so this would be a nice diversion. As long as it didn't take up too much of his time. Shouldn't take too long if this girl liked to swap men so easily. He'd have her in his bed in a week, a job well done. "Very well, I'll accept the mission but you better make it worth my time."
Kagome winced in pain feeling the small piece of wood enter her hand. "Ouch!" The wood she'd been carrying back to camp was quickly forgotten as it fell to the ground so she could nurse her injured palm. An owl took off overhead at the noise but she payed it no attention. "Great what next?" Her day couldn't get any worse it seemed. First thing this morning they had a run in with a fox youkai sniffing after the shards. A long fight had insued only to have Kouga step in at the last minute causing Inuyasha to become angry. The wolf had come just in time to pull her to safety making Inuyasha feel like he'd failed her yet again. Kouga had no problems with rubbing it in Inuyasha's face. She wished the stupid wolf would stop and think about what he was doing. He'd get Inuyasha riled up and then take off leaving her and the others to deal with his attitude.
It was time for them to bed down for the night, time to end another day of hunting for Naraku. Inuyasha had been sulking in a tree when she'd left camp. Sango was polishing her weapons while Miroku was getting the fire going. Shippou had been worn out and asleep next to Kirara. So, Kagome had volunteered to go fetch more wood just to get away for awhile. Some time alone was very much in need for her. Her emotions were about to have a head-on collision. She was so confused about her relationship with her beloved hanyou.
Just when she thought things were looking up between them, Kikyou would always make an appearance of some sort. For every step they took forward they'd take two back when she appeared. The undead miko didn't always have to make an physical appearance to interfere. Whenever mention of a powerful miko was brought up in a village or among traveller it would cause the hanyou to believe it was his lost love. Everytime Naraku's name was mention it would make him think of her. Kagome was begining to feel the weight of the woman's shadow constantly surrounding her. Feelings of jealousy or resentment wasn't something she liked to feel but sometimes it came in small doses and quickly squashed. Kikyou had been in his heart long before she'd come into the picture. She would never ask him to change the way he felt or try to dictate his feelings. What bothered her most was never knowing where she stood with him. There were days were he was the most caring person she could ever want to be with and then others he was a real bastard. He'd still hadn't recalled his decision of going to hell with her.
It all left her confused and her heart in turmoil. She wanted to him to be happy even if it wasn't with her but wasn't she allowed to be happy too? If he planned to go to hell with Kikyou when Naraku was destroyed shouldn't he step aside for her? She was willing to step aside for his love of Kikyou, yet he always got angry when Kouga came around. Not that she would ever be interested in the wolf. The principle was still there and it iritated her. Wasn't she allowed to have another man want her? Inuyasha would never be hers yet he didn't want to let another man have her. It was the classic story of a person wanting their cake and eating it too. If they weren't going to end up together, couldn't he be honest and let her heart start to mend?
Clumsy fingers tried to remove the tiny wood fragment lodged within the palm. She sighed seeing that it wasn't happening without her first aid kit. Something else for Inuyasha to call her stupid about. She couldn't gather firewood without causing injury to herself. Leaning over to gather up what had been dumped to the ground carelessly she began to notice the thick fog rolling in. "That's strange."
Her nerves picked up as it became thicker by the second, surrounding her completely. Her senses told her that it wasn't ordinary fog, it had come too fast and too heavy. A quick intake of breath made her want to gag. It almost reminded her of a pair of old sweat socks.The stench coming from the mist itself was almost overwhelming. "Gross!" The hairs on her neck told her she wasn't alone anymore, something was in the mist with her. "Who's there?"
"Don't worry little girl, I'll be gentle." The cruel voice spoke from in front of her current position. Whomever it was, was blocking her path back to the camp and safety. Between the smell and nerves her stomach pitched towards the ground. She wished she could see exactly where he was but all was silent again as she waited. Seconds passed as she debated on her options. First she could try yelling, there was a good chance Inuyasha would be able to hear her. Or she could try to handle this herself. If only she knew what she was up against, it was hard to tell anything in the mist.
She couldn't stop the scream that erupted from her throat as the hand shot from the mist to grab her wrist. "Let go of me." Soft laughter was heard as she began to struggle against the tight grip. A hand was brought down on her face as another scream penetrated the forest. Where was Inuyasha? Was she too far away for him to hear her cries for help? The pain of her lip splitting made her whimper before she hit the ground. As the stars began to clear from her vision she got a good look at her attacker. The man was definitely youkai, well over six feet in height and a body that was muscular. What chances did she stand against him without any sort of weapon available?
Without giving much thoughts to her actions she brought her foot up when he got within striking distance. The sound of her heel making solid impace was heard along with his groan of pain. Blood pumped in her ears as she moved to her feet to put distance between her and the man. Holding her hands out in front of her body she prayed she didn't run face first into a tree. It wouldn't bode well if she knocked her ownself out while running away. The going was slow being unable to see an inch before her.
What seemed like an eternity later the mist began to clear as the loud shouts of the angry youkai was heard. She let out the breath she was holding seeing the night once again. The relief was short-lived as something hard slammed into her back. The ground was harsh as she hit it one more time. It was happening too fast for her to fully understand what was about to take place. The man had somehow managed to place her on her back and was now tugging at her panties. She quickly swore to herself never to wear her school uniform again. Another scream was heard and bile rose in her throat. Rough fingers were touching her most private spot. "STOP!"
Touya felt anger rise seeing that Bakken was getting carried away. He was merely supposed to accoust the girl not rape her. Knowing it was time to step in he crept from his hiding place. If he was to seduce the girl, he'd be damned if his dick went anywhere after that fool's. Taking a steady breath he shot an small amount of shards as planned. There was no stopping the small smile upon hearing the ape's hiss of pain before he rolled fell to the side. The shard merely hit him in the neck causing him to sleep for a few minutes, nothing more.
Kagome wasn't sure if she should be thankful or curse her luck. The large man was on his side, his slow steady breathing said he was still alive. Her head turned quickly towards her savior. He stepped far enough into the light so she could make out his features. The first thing that came to her mind was adorable. The male wasn't sexy, hot or even what she'd consider a knock-out. He couldn't have been a few inches taller than herself, a small man in most eyes. Yet his stance spoke of someone sure of himself and self-assured. His hair was short, blue like the deepest ice and with and odd shade of green tinting his bangs. Every feature on his face was soft, like that of a young boy. His appearance was almost enough to put her at ease except for the presence of the large man beside her. The large man he'd been able to imcompacitate without even touching.
Was this strange man here to help her or take up where the former had failed? Unsure of what to do she remained still, waiting for the man to make the first move. Surely he'd catch her if she tried to make a run for it. Panic filled her when he did nothing but stare at her. She had to look a mess; her hair had fallen out of the clip that had been holding it in place. Her clothes were rumpled and the seam of her panties torn and showing. With that thought in mind her hand shot down to push her skirt back down, giving the smallest amount of modesty.
Touya looked her over, unsure of what to make of the girl. Naraku had said that she was pleasing to look upon but he had lied. She was beautiful, especially for a human. Her rosy lips were slightly parted as her breath quickened in anticipation of his next move. No wonder this Naraku was so bent out of shape. For a hanyou such as himself, a human girl this stunning was a prize. Touya let himself get lost for the briefest of seconds, enjoying the view that she presented.
"KAGOME!!!" She turned at the sound of her name being sent along the trees. Her heart jumped at the sound of his voice, he'd come for her. Sure he was a little late, if it hadn't been for the man in front of her she would no longer be a virgin. The big lug would have managed to penetrate her by now. Thinking of her rescuer made her return her gaze in his direction. He was gone! Not wanting to cause more trouble she got up quickly leaving the fallen man on the ground.
She met Inuyasha a few seconds later, heart pounding deep in her chest. Her arms wrapped around the hanyou, so glad she was to see him. "Inuyasha!" She felt him stiffen in her embrace but didn't let it effect her happiness. She'd come close to being raped, for that she was thankful to the man that had stepped in before it happened.
"
What the hell was all your screaming about and what the fuck is that smell?" Inuyasha crinkled his nose in disgust. The odor was one of unclean body odor. Like the owner had gone on a five day run without taking a bath once reaching his destination. Not only did it clink to the air but lingered all over the girl in his arms. He'd been returning to camp after speaking with Kikyou to find Kagome was still gone. Moments after searching he'd heard her cry.
Kagome looked up at him, relief bringing a smile to her face. For a split second she was about to lean on him and tell him everything. A movement caught her attention far to their left. There was no mistaking Kikyou's soul collector's in the sky above. So that's why it had taken him so long to come to her aid. Her words clogged in her throat, threatening to suffocate her along with her tears. "It was nothing. This thick smelly fog rolled in and I guess I panicked. Thought I saw something, it was probably a deer. Sorry didn't mean to worry you."
"Dammit Kagome, don't go screaming like that. I heard you scream and thought you were being attacked. So where's the firewood wench?" Inuyasha pulled himself out of her embrace, the need to put distance between them strong. As much as he loved Kagome and needed her he could never bring himself to make that level of commitment to her. Whenever he thought of advancing their relationship Kikyou's face would always appear. Kagome might be his love's reincarnation but they weren't the same person. He loved them both in different ways, that couldn't be changed. "Come on, let's find some wood and head back to camp."
Kagome noticed his emotional withdrawal and sighed deeply. She now knew two things; he had been with Kikyou, had left to go to the woman as soon as she had headed out of camp. And Inuyasha had said he'd heard her scream. Which meant out of all the times she'd screamed he'd only heard one of those pleas for help. As she let her feet take her back to her companions she silently thanked the boyish man.
~~~~~~~~ Two Weeks Later ~~~~~~~~
Kagome was more than happy to leave the group behind as she set out to take her bath. Sango had taken one with her the night before so declined her invitation. It was just as well, the miko really needed to be alone. Three days her world had crashed around her, leaving a devistated person in it's wake. She'd be foolish to tell herself that she hadn't seen it coming. Even her friends had known what was going on. Now she was the subject of sympathetic looks and sighs.
The looks of pity were begining to grate on her nerves. She didn't need their pity, nor did she need Inuyasha to coddle her. It hurt to finally hear the words from the hanyou's mouth but expected. The day had started out like normal, the only thing off was her mind had once again wondered back to the boyish man that had saved her. Kouga had arrived like usual that evening to speak to her. The wolf bragged to her of knowing where Naraku was and would soon bring her his head. It didn't take long for Inuyasha to rise to the bait. Another petty fight had sprung forward; with Kouga running off promising to come back for her and a seething Inuyasha swearing.
She told herself even if she could never have his love she had his friendship, that was enough for now. They argued about the wolf after his departure. Even though he'd been considerate enough to take her a ways from camp his voice had carried back to the others along with hers. Anger had caused her to lash out at him. Once again he was proving that he didn't want her with another male but didn't want her for himself. His harsh words still rang in her ears, "Next time he comes you can go with your wimpy wolf. Go on, I don't need you anymore. I'm tired of having to save you all the time. I'd be better off without you."
Deep down she knew he didn't really mean what he said but it still hurt. Didn't she derserve to be happy as well? Letting her mind continue its slow torment she sank down on the bank. What she needed was a hot soak in the water to ease her muscles. Whatever it took to relax before heading back to camp.
"Does he always talk to you in such a manner?" Touya finally let his presence be known to the girl. He'd been following her since that first night, wathcing from the shadows. Looking for any information about her that would help him complete his job. Tonight was the first night she'd gone off alone by herself. He'd seen and heard enough these past two weeks to know that it wouldn't take much to get the girl in his bed. Any fool could see how she was hurting inside. Someone in pain was acceptable to manipulation.
Touya had seen how the girl openly gave herself to the hanyou, while the boy foolishly over looked what she was offering. Why he wasn't sure yet, unless it had something to do with the undead look alike that was always close. He'd heard some conversations here and there, some of it made sense. What confused him more was the subtle heard about the mutt wanting the undead woman. Which to him had to be wrong, no man in his right mind would love a dead woman. The girl wore her broken heart on her sleeve for all to see. He almost found irony in the situation. So the girl had ditched Naraku for a man that wanted another woman. Not that it mattered either way, he'd bed the girl and his job would be done. The girl was always with her companions, so after the deed was done there was no way the hanyou would be able to miss his smell upon the girl. All he needed was a few more days, enough to woe her. Making her feel wanted and desirable would be the key to claiming his prize.
Kagome almost screamed hearing the voice. She calmed seeing who it was before her, the man she'd come to see as her savior for some reason. Maybe it was because he'd done it for no apparent reason and hadn't commented on having to do so. There was also the way he was looking at her, as if he wanted something besides the jewel shards. What could she possibly have that he'd want? "Um, hi." She knew she sounded stupid but the words fell from her lips.
"Hmph, I asked you a question. Does he always talk to you like that? My apologies but I couldn't help but to overhear as I was travelling by. I don't mean to pry in your affairs." Her mouth dropped to a huge frown compelling him to continue before she got upset at his overhearing the fight. He couldn't risk her to think badly of him. Smooth talking would be needed to win her trust. "I heard the shouting and thought to investigate, I was surprised to see you. I was even more shocked to see a youkai speaking to a lady in such a degrading tone."
"Well, he's only half youkai and he really doesn't mean it. He's just stressed at the moment. " Kagome lowered her eyes to the ground, shame filling her cheeks. So he'd heard Inuyasha pronouncing to the world that she was all but useless. For some reason she didn't want this man to believe she was useless but the reason why eluded her.
"You shouldn't make excuses for him. No matter how tough things get, a female should be treated with respect." He watched the shame leave her face to be quickly replaced by confusion. Though she didn't give a response he knew she was listening to the words he spoke and would remember them. "You should take better precaution about roaming the woods at night."
His words made images click in her mind of the first and last time she'd seen him. "I want to thank you for saving me. I am in your debt." Eyes met for the first time, Kagome felt herself being dragged into the pair looking back at her. There for her to see was someone just as lonely as she. Like drowning in a sea made of ice, she was sinking to the very bottom. Deep emotions beckoned to her, asking for permision to sweep her away.
"Someone is coming, I best be off Kagome." He smirked inwardly seeing her shock that he knew her name. "It's a beautiful name but not as breath-taking as the carrier. Seems we are headed in the same direction. Call if you ever need me."
Kagome was too shocked to speak, she'd meant to ask his name. The someone turned about to be Inuyasha, coming to apologize about his earlier behaviour. While he tried his best at spitting out 'I'm sorry', her thoughts kept returning to her strange but handsome visitor.
~~~~~~~~ Eight days later ~~~~~~~~
Kagome felt the smile spreading across her face before her eyes opened to the morning light. A quick assessment told her that Inuyasha was already up but off somewhere. The now familiar stem was brushing against her finger tips, causing a blush to spread. Ever since that night she'd been sneaking off pleading time alone. The first night she had intended to spend sometime alone with just her thoughts but fate had something else in mind. Her savior had showed up and a conversation had struck up. She'd learned that his name was Touya and he was an ice youkai. They mostly spoke of her, what she was willing to tell him. Though he didn't offer much about himself the topics were never dull or boring. She found herself laughing at his quick wit.
She hardly knew him but couldn't help but feel at ease with him. As if she'd found something that she'd been missing her whole life. No insults were forthcoming when she spoke of how clumsy she was. Instead he offered advice on how to improve her balance and coaxed her into believing in herself. He'd been surprised to hear that she was a miko. It was quickly replaced by awe and more questions. If made her feel good to have someone listen to what she had to say. In the desperate hunt for Naraku, for a brief period she was finding peace. It felt so right to sit and enjoy his company, she couldn't find it within herself to feel guilt.
He was proving to be a gentleman as well. Every morning, somehow he'd manage to sneak into camp and leave a different type of flower near her hand, within easy reach. She'd asked him last night why he made the gesture. He told her it was there to remind her as she started each day that he was near and thinking of her. The words had shocked her to the very core of her soul. She'd only been courted by one other male and his ideal of a gift were slippers for her bunyins. While Hojo's courting was sweet it was done by a inexperienced boy. Kagome knew she was being chased after a grown man. One who knew exactly what to do with a woman. Of course Kouga was a grown youkai but his idea of winning her love was hurling insults at another male most of the time.
Her heart told her to embrace what he was offering, she'd come to care for him in such a short time. Her mind told her to be cautious, someone like him would never be interested in her. Yet when she looked at it from afar it made no sense. What other reason could he have for paying her so much attention. She'd had the jewel shard with her on several occasions, not once had he tried to take it. If thats what he wanted why didn't he just kill her and steal it? So his interest had to be real. He really liked her for who she was; Kagome!
~~~~~~~~ The Next Day ~~~~~~~~
The ice youkai couldn't force himself to move from his spot. The small group was atleast two hours behind him, he'd forced himself to put some distance between him and the girl. It angered him to know he was starting to question his mission. None of it made any sense, there was only one answer and he didn't like what it lead to. He'd always prided himself on being able to control his emotions, letting others see only what he desired them to. Yet everyday that passed he found himself thinking about her constantly. She was stirring feelings he didn't know he'd possessed.
Just yesterday he'd arrived early enough to hear that hanyou calling her slow and pathetic. The desire to tear the tongue out of the boy's head had been strong. Whenever he was around the girl, he felt a deep peace. The mission had been to seduce the girl, he wondered if she wasn't the one doing the seducing all along. There was no denying that he desired her physically. He would wake up with his member swollen, aching to be buried deep within her body.
His thoughts brought up her words also spoken in anger. She'd accused the hanyou of not wanting her but wouldn't allow another man to have her. When he heard those words he remembered everything Naraku had said about the girl. The sinister voice had spoken of the girl's charm and had implied the girl's appetite in bed. No wonder he wasn't having such a hard time at seducing her, she wanted to be seduced. The only thing that made sense was she knew exactly what she was doing. His mission had given her the perfect opportunity to strike back at the hanyou she wanted. The girl had left Naraku only to be spurned by the man she craved.
It bothered him to know that he was just a tool for her to harm another. He was going to use her as much as she was using him. All those innocent smiles were nothing but a ruse to charm him. She was playing her part and so would he. Soon he would finish the game and collect his reward, after all she was nothing more than a job.
Kagome wasn't shocked when seeing Kikyou show up in camp didn't pain her that much. It still brought up the feelings of being second best but the old ache was gone. Inuyasha greeted her calmly but she could see the emotions he was trying to hide. The same mood was there, like it always was. If it were an old love movie, it would be the screen when two seperated lovers see each other across the crowded room for the first time. The whole world would fade away, leaving just the two of them. What she felt most from seeing it was envy of that emotion. It made her wish to experience it once for herself and to have it returned.
Sango and Miroku kept glancing in her direction, as if expecting her to break down in tears at any given moment. Shippou sat casually on her shoulder muttering to himself about a stupid hanyou. She tilted her head close to the kit, "Maybe it's not being an idiot Shippou. I think it's just being true to one's heart. We can't dictate who we fall in love with. There is no explanation as to why or how, it just happens. None of us can fault Inuyasha for still loving her and we shouldn't want to. Everyone deserves to be happy," She placed a smile as the kit gawked at her. "Well, except Naraku that is."
"You don't have to be so forgiving Kagome. He knows it hurts you to see them together but he does it anyways. One day you are going to get tired of waiting around for him and find someone else. Then where is he going to be? Even I know a girl can handle only so much rejection before she decides to move on." Shippou wanted to see Kagome happy, she'd done so much for all of them. Everyone knew she was in love with the baka hanyou. "If you want my opinion you should forget about Inuyasha and find someone else to love."
"Thanks Shippou!" The miko watched the couple speak in hushed tones for a few minutes. All the while a pair of blue eyes flashed in the back of her mind. Everything had changed for her the night he'd stepped into her life. Her feelings for him were still undecided but was she only trying to fool herself to save herself the heartache? She couldn't deny there was something there but what? "There's a good chance I already have." The kit's quick intake of breath was heard indicating that he'd heard the whispered confession.
"Come on you two we are leaving. Seems Kikyou will be joining us this evening." Miroku caught their attention waving his staff towards them. Kagome's cheeks were a deep red while Shippou looked ready to fall over in shock. "Come now it's not that surprising with this turn of events. If what she says is true then they will need our help. Sango and I will not protest as long as you are okay with it Kagome." As much as he wanted to help out with the threat to the local village, he wouldn't put Kagome in a position where she'd be hurt.
"Oh no, I'm fine Miroku. Let's get going before we are left behind." Kagome picked up her pace, let them think her flushed cheeks was caused by another emotion. Better them to believe she was angry instead of blushing over another male. It was best if they didn't know of him just yet. She wanted to keep him a secret just for awhile longer.
~~~~~~~~ Later That Night ~~~~~~~~
Everyone else was sleeping peacefully inside the small hut unaware that one of the group was still up. The miko in question was making a few decisions about her life. For the first time in months she was thinking clearly, too clear. A month ago the decision would have left her with an emptiness that couldn't be filled. But now things were different, she wasn't the same person.
They'd come to the village just like Kikyou had asked of them or in particular Inuyasha. The undead miko had been asked to stop a youkai that was attacking at dusk, killing everything in it's path. Kikyou had tried to destroy the thing on her own but it had some type of armour keeping her sacred arrow from injuring it. So naturally she'd asked Inuyasha to help by using the Tetsusiaga on the creature. The plan was for him to break the armour enough for her to purify the being beneath. Kagome and the others were told to stay back while they handled it, which had been just fine with her. At dusk it attacked on schedule and a battle had ensued. Everything looked to be going according to plan until they misjudged their foe. The fang destroyed the shell, which was exactly what the creature had been trying to do to begin with. It hadn't been armour to protect what was within but a seal.
Now free from it's bonds it began to take on another shape, that of a squid. Kagome had done what she could to help, it was stronger than anything Naraku had ever thrown at them. It's regenerative powers were so strong Kikyou's arrow wasn't strong enough to purify the whole thing before it would rebuild what was turned to ash. Miroku chirped in, telling them both to fire at it; one to take the top section and the other takes the bottom. The plan was sound and had worked in the end.
As she layed there Kagome could picture it all in slow motion. Sensing it's life was finally in true danger it had struck out towards the two woman posing the threat. A long tenacle shot out in both directions, one aiming at her while the other went for Kikyou. Inuyasha saw it happening but even being as fast as he was he had time to save just one. Deep down she knew the decision had been made the instance he realized the dilemma. All Kagome could do was scream as the lethal appendage came her way, she was going to do. Knowing so she let her shot be fired, releasing the arrow that would help destroy the youkai. Her eyes closed not wanting to see her own death. Seconds went by, her breath stuck within her lungs but the blow never landed. Her eyes popped open to see what remained of the arm laying upon the ground twitching slightly. Miroku had run over to check on her along with Sango. They all were as shocked as she, no one could explain what had happened. One second it was aiming straight for her heart the next it was dropping to the earth a second before reaching her heart. The houshi had searched for clues as to the cause, the only thing found was a few chips of ice laying next to it. Miroku commented on how it was odd but they were more relieved that Kagome was alive than to the cause.
There was no doubt in Kagome's mind who had saved her. She also knew for the final time Inuyasha had made his choice. The door had finally closed on any possible future for them. She was okay with that, very quickly her heart had begun to be fall for another. Knowing that she had feelings for Touya filled her with the urge to see him.
Making sure everyone was fast asleep she made her way outside into the darkness. She wasn't sure where he'd be or if he was still close but she was willing to bet he'd find her soon. Her search only lasted for a few minutes, he appeared before her. Without saying a word he extended his hand and beckoned her to follow him. She let herself be escorted to a clearing not far from the village. A small fire was going, a blanket placed near. Obviously he'd been ready to bed down for the night.
Uncertainty filled her as she was escorted to take a seat on the blanket beside him. The setting was very cozy, leaving her wondering what was about to happen. Though she was nervous, she wasn't afraid. Whatever happened between her and Touya she wouldn't regret, not now. If it wasn't possible for her to have a life with Inuyasha then she'd gladly accept one with Touya.
Touya was sure she looked nervous, almost shy. He almost scoffed at the idea that she was actually skittery about rutting with someone. She'd done it before, it was the same everytime. Maybe she was nervous about sleeping with someone other than the hanyou, since the man was her first pick. Some sweet talking and she'd be ready to do this. "What brings you out here to me?"
"I just wanted to see you I guess, I knew you'd be nearby. I also wanted to thank you for saving my life today." She smiled up at him, noticing just how close he was. Only an inch seperated their bodies, stopping them from touching. All she'd have to do is lean forward and they'd be kissing. "That's the second time you've saved my life and I have no idea why."
"I think that would be obvious." Deciding it was time to make his move, he placed a hand across her face. As he cupped her cheek, he brought her close to him. He stopped within inches of claiming her mouth. "You are a very special woman Kagome and I am incrediably drawn to you. I've seen how you care for that hanyou. You deserve so much better, why are you with him? He's a fool not to recognize you for the treasure you are." He saw how his words seemed to touch her, finally he was getting somewhere. A few more minutes and he'd be buried within her.
Kagome shut her eyes as he closed the distance between them. The first touch of his lips were gentle, a mere touch. There mere constant of the soft skin caused a shiver to run down her spine, sending sparks throughout her nerves. Her mouth opened to allow his probing tongue entrance. Abandoning all reason, she returned the kiss, allowing herself to get lost in the feelings he was invoking. The kiss was sending chills down her spine, every nerve seemed to be alive. Inuyasha had kissed her once, it had felt nothing like this.
Touya waited for her to accept him before deepening the kiss. Her movements were shy, as if she were unsure of herself. Everything around her was radiating innocence, it called to him. Even if he knew the truth it was enough to excite the beast that hid within. It didn't matter if she had once belonged to Naraku or this Inuyasha; tonight she would be his.
Kagome let him continue his exploration of her mouth, even letting him place a hand upon her. The first contact almost made her jump up the nearest tree Inuyasha style. She had to admit his touch was pleasant making tiny nerves spring to life in her lower region. It was unlike anything she'd ever imagined. Instead of protesting, she let him remove the shirt. At the first touch of his hand on her bare breast she knew where this would be leading if she didn't do something to stop it. She'd often imagined what it would be like to be with Inuyasha. It had never crossed her mind that another man might be the one to take her virginity.
No protests were made as he began to remove the rest of her clothing. Many emotions swirled inside; confusion, shock, embarassment and love. She couldn't deny that she wanted this to happen. If just for one night she wanted to be close to someone that she loved. The future was never guaranteed, tonight was her time to do something drastic and life changing.
Now she was laying nude in front of him watching as he discarded his clothing. A slight frown appeared when his movements seem to be rushed and jerky. It made her wonder if he really was ready for this or was she being silly and worrying over nothing. Before she could comment he climbed over her small form, claiming her mouth. She gave in feeling his knees trying to pry her own apart leaving her center exposed. Believing that she could trust him, her body relaxed in his embrace. Something hard yet smooth was rubbing against her opening. A blush crept up her cheeks knowing exactly what she was feeling. The last she heard was her name before her lower body was being torn by a searing pain. She knew enough to know that he'd just entered her body but would never have thought it to hurt this much.
Touya froze over her stiff form, shock making it impossible to move. There was no doubt what he'd just felt or the way she felt wrapped around him. Confusion and shame filled him to his very core. He'd entered her swiftly without making sure she was ready for him. After feeling her wetness coating the head of his shaft he'd taken her. If she'd been with other men as he'd assumed and been told then his entry wouldn't have caused her any pain. The sound of her muffled sobs rang through his ears making him feel worse. She'd been a virgin but that meant Naraku had lied to him about their relationship. What else had the hanyou lied to him about?
Kagome felt the urge to push him off her and purify his ass. She opened her eyes to see the remorse and guilt filling his, he hadn't meant to hurt her. Her mother had said it would hurt the first time, "I'm okay." Taking a deep breath she tried to focus on him and not the pain. Giving a slight smile she moved her hips indicating that he should continue. She returned the kiss he offered feeling better by the second. There was only a slight sting as he pulled out slowly.
Closing her eyes as her arms wrapped around his back, she held him tight. The next entry was both pleasureable and painful, her body still adjusting to his intrusion. A friction was stirring as he began to move slowly within her. A small moan escaped when a jolt of pleasure surged through her inner walls. Skilled hands began roaming over her hips, stirring the heat in the pit of her stomach. She felt something coiling within her, a ball of tension was about to snap. Unsure of what she needed she lifted her hips off the ground to meet his thrusts. The motion seemed to please him causing him to pick up his pace.
Touya felt her muscles tightening around him, she was close. His own climax was rushing forward as he moved within her tight body. The first spasm hit as she cried out his name. The release came fast as she clamped down on his member. The wave of pleasure crashed over him, spilling his seed inside her.
Inuyasha sensed the others not far behind him now. Worry was etched on his features as he raced through the forest. "Where are you Kagome?" Not only was he worried about her sudden disappearance but the scent of Naraku clung in the air. The hanyou was out here somewhere but hadn't shown himself yet. Had he done something with Kagome? Trying to push the scent of his nemisis aside he followed the scent of the girl he was searching for. First thing he had to do was find his best friend.
He skidded to a halt when Naraku suddenly appeared before him. "You bastard, what have you done with Kagome?" He would make sure Naraku suffered if anything happened to her. Her scent was strong in the area, she had to be close. The evil cackling made his hair stand on end. "Answer me dammit."
"What makes you think I did anything with her? I haven't touched her but it's a shame not all of us can say the same. Tell me Inuyasha how does it feel to know that you've lost yet another woman? For someone that supposedly loved you, she gave in to him real quick. You should have heard the way she screamed his name." Naraku watched the hanyou's face turn red with anger. The fun was just about to begin, he'd enjoy every minute of it. After he hurt Inuyasha he would turn around and destroy the little miko. That girl would soon wish she'd never interfered with him. Knowing that he had Inuyasha's attention he dropped the barrier he'd placed around the sleeping couple.
Inuyasha felt his heart drop at the sight before him. Kagome was laying wrapped in another man's arms nude. The smell of blood and sex hung thick in the air. The way the miko clung to the man left no doubt that the coupling had been consented to. He'd often suspected that there was someone else, she'd been too happy. He'd seen the flowers she would hold throughout the day but knew that it was best to give her privacy. She'd put up with so much from him, he had owed it to her not to interfere. But seeing the two lovers laying there looking content caused an angry jealousy to rise within him.
"Get your fucking hands off her." Without thinking he drew his fang aiming for the man that looked too comfortable. Kagome's voice filled the air before he could strike. The incantation forced his body to slam into the dirt a foot away from the couple. "You stupid bitch don't you realize the danger you are in and you sit me!"
Kagome's hands went for her clothing hastily pulling it on as she stammered. There was no danger here, it was only Touya. He must have come looking for her and assumed the worst. "I am not in any danger, how dare you cause a scene." She blushed knowing exactly what Inuyasha had come upon. She'd fallen asleep in her new lover's arms. Out the corner of her eye she could see that he was getting dressed as well. Her world crashed when she heard the sinister cackling.
"How stupid of you Kagome, to disable the only protection you have." Naraku felt glee when fear replaced the anger, now he'd crush the miko. He felt true joy as she immediately jumped behind the ice youkai. "Kukukuku, do you really think Touya is going to help you? You humans are so foolish, you believe just because he rutted with you that you actually mean something to him." He saw her face drop at the statement and smirked in glee. His eyes landed on the man in question and he was disappointed. There was the way he was standing before the girl. Was the fool actually willing to protect her? He'd put an end to that foolishness. Even if the man had developed feelings for the miko which he now suspected, he'd make sure the miko hated the man. "You did an excellent job Touya, better than I had hoped. I didn't think you'd be able to get her to bed you that soon, Kagome you are a disappointment. But I guess with a jewel shard as payment he was willing to give the extra effort to get the job done."
"NO!" Kagome felt the fist collide with her chest, it couldn't be true. Touya cared for her, he'd never use her that way. Taking a step back she willed the man to turn around and deny the accusations. Inuyasha's cursing could be heard as he listened to the facts. "Touya?" Please let him turn around and say Naraku was lying. When he finally turned to look at her, the world froze. She could see the truth in his eyes, it was true. The whole time he'd been sent by Naraku to seduce her for some reason but why? Her answer came from scream as Inuyasha got up from his crater. Ignoring Naraku he aimed for the man that had just crushed her heart.
Kagome sunk to her knees, not wanting to witness the battle about to take place. Tears streamed down her face as Inuyasha struck Touya knocking him back into the nearest tree. Touya had been paid to get close to her by Naraku, just to hurt Inuyasha. As much as it hurt her to know his reasons behind everything she didn't want him to get hurt. The hanyou was in a rage and the ice youkai didn't appear to be fighting back. Kagome screamed when claws raked across Touya's chest. "Inuyasha stop!"
Naraku saw his chance with Inuyasha dealing with the other man. Everything was going down as planned, time to kill the girl. Without making a sound he sent a tenacle towards her. The girl would die before either man figured out that she was in danger. "Hiraikotsu!" He snarled as the large weapon sliced through the appendage, his advantage gone. The others had arrived and Inuyasha's attention was now back on him. It was time he left, he'd done enough damage for one day.
Kagome didn't move as Sango rushed over to her. Only Inuyasha noticed that Touya had also disappeared. That was fine, if the man came back he was dead. The gang made sure the hanyou was gone before grabbing the shocked miko off the ground. No one asked about what had transpired before their arrival.
~~~~~ Two weeks later ~~~~~
Touya ignored the advice of his one true friend once again. For once in his life he'd wished that he'd been killed by another. He'd been willing to let the hanyou take his life seeing the hurt he'd caused. Before falling asleep he'd decided to seek out the truth. Naraku had made sure that never happened. He'd done exactly what Naraku had wanted, he'd hurt the girl. Was it possible that the whole time she hadn't been putting on an act for his benifit. Was she being her true self? It meant he'd been used also, along with Kagome. He was more angry at himself for not seeing the truth sooner. He'd taken something precious from an innocent girl. The act had been dishonorable, it left an empty feeling deep inside him.
He cursed that Jin had decided to intercede on his behalf. He'd woken up to find the angry wind youkai giving him the fifth degree. Now that it was over he was left with sorrow. So many unanswered questions plaqued him. Why had she given herself to him? She'd been pure before him, so why? Had the care he'd seen be true and not an act? It made no sense to him, he had to know.
Ignoring the warning Jin had given him he headed towards where he'd last seen her. He could no longer pick her scent but the one left by the hanyou was unmistakable. The trail led him to a small village that looked filled with humans. The only one he could find was the small kit that had travelled with her. He was sitting on the edge of a well, staring down into the depths. The kit barely moved as he joined him, "Where is Kagome?"
Shippou stared up at the ice youkai and frowned. He was never told what had happened to the girl he'd come to love as a second mother but knew it had something to do with this man. All the times he'd gone to crawl under the blankets with Kagome his scent had cloaked the miko. This had to be the man Kagome had been sneaking off to see. He didn't know all the details but he'd heard bits and pieces. Unsure of everything he didn't know how to reply. A week ago Inuyasha had sent Kagome home for the last time, she was to never return to this era. They all knew it was best, she was no longer the Kagome they knew. Something had happened to her that night they'd found her in the woods. "She's not here."
"Tell me where I can find her please." He knew yelling at the child wouldn't help matters. The boy looked on the verge of tears. The sooner he found Kagome the sooner he could explain and apologize. Even though she'd started out as a job, she'd become something more. He wasn't sure what but she meant something to him. He'd destroy Naraku also once he settled things with Kagome.
Shippou turned to the man hearing the plea in his voice. All he knew was that somehow this man had made Kagome happy for a short time. "She's gone, she's never coming back." Shippou felt the tear slide down his cheek remembering it all. It had torn his heart to say goodbye to the girl. With Naraku being gone she'd returned home for good. Inuyasha assured everyone that it was for the best if she didn't stay in the past. Shippou knew everyone else was okay with it. After all Miroku and Sango had each other, Inuyasha now had Kikyou back with him and he was stuck with no one. Why couldn't he have gone back with Kagome?
"She helped kill Naraku but then... then.." Shippou felt the tears begin to flow. He had no idea if Kagome had told this man about the power of the well. Unsure of what else to tell the man, how could he explain her never coming back. She was still alive but might as well be dead to those on this side of the well. Kaede had sealed the well, making sure the girl would never return to them. They all said it was the best but the best for who? "She's dead okay. She's gone and I'll never see her again."
Kagome stood before the large tree enjoying the slight breeze. A month had passed since she'd come home to stay. In her heart she knew they'd sent her back for her own good. Being in the past was too painful for her now. Her home was here with her family and what friends she still had left. She'd left knowing everyone there would be happy eventually. Naraku was gone, life would go on. It meant taking it one day at a time, she'd survive. It gave her some amount of piece believing that things had worked out in the end.
She gave her mom a slight smile as she approached with a bag of groceries. They were all worried for her and for good reason. She'd come home a wreck, on the verge of giving up. But if she learned anything from her adventure in the past, it was that she was a fighter. Nothing Naraku did would destroy her will to live. He was dead now and she wouldn't let him win.
So Touya had used her, she'd been a job for him. Hating him wasn't an option, it wasn't in her. That is what the evil bastard would have wanted her to do. Nope, she still loved him with her whole heart. No matter what his reasons had been, for that small amount of time he'd made her happy. For a brief time she'd felt loved and cherished. The night she'd given herself to him she'd cherish it instead of regretting her actions. She'd done so out of love, that would never change.
It saddened her that he'd turned out to be someone else. She prayed for him at night, willing it to reach him. There was no ill will in her desires but she hoped that in these past five centuries he'd have found his purpose in life. If he was still alive she hoped he'd found happiness. One day she would find hers again, she had hope.
"How are you feeling today dear?" Mrs. Higurashi walked up to her daughter. She couldn't help but notice the slight change in the girl's eyes. Maybe she was worrying over nothing. Kagome wasn't a weak person, she'd deal with her heartache. The family would be there for her till the end. If things went well maybe she'd start dating again. "You seemed to be lost in thought."
"Yep, I was thinking about something." Kagome sighed glancing back up to the tree that had started it all. Everyone in the past had helped shape the person she was today and whom she'd become one day. It was time she got her life back on track and do something for herself. It wasn't the past that mattered but the future. Today was the first day of the rest of her life, time to move on. "I was just wondering, is this the begining or the end?"
