Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha, nor make money from this story. |
A/N: In Response to “Tryst’s” (AKA Punishment of the Inu) Challenge, though I don’t doubt that this came out more a little different than she expected.
It certainly wasn’t what I expected anyway, since originally this chapter was supposed to be Inuyasha grieving the death of his children or his mate or something and somehow it turned into this.
Needless to say I have absolutely no idea where this is going, but it should be interesting to say the least.
Anyway, here’s the first chapter, I hope everyone enjoys it!
Leave me reviews (or flames) with your thoughts and I’ll update again! (unless, everybody hates it that is ^_^).
VERY IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER - I don’t own Inuyasha or any of the characters associated with that animemanga. I only own the story itself and any OC that may or may not be introduced later. Rumiko Takahashi owns the rest, and I make no money off of it. This applies to any and all chapters included in any and all of my stories!

Something More
Inuyasha stood perfectly still, heavy sword slung over one shoulder, it’s blade and the blood on it glistening in the flames that still lingered from the already devoured field, his face a hard mask revealing neither fear nor anger as he watched the army of demons charge toward him.
These demons had once served under his father.
But he was cruel to them, and so they formed a mutinous army of traitors right under his nose, never realising that he was aware of every little move they made.
And now the day had finally come when they chose to attack, and Inuyasha, son and sole heir to the Lord of these lands, the very demon they rose up against, stood facing them as a single warrior alone on a plain of darkness and ash, it’s dismal air echoing with memories of past battles and blood spilt.
The half-demon’s hand tightened slightly on the hilt of his blade as a small, almost grim, but cruel smirk spread across his face, darkening it further with shadows-- the only warnings given to the offending youkai before he swung his sword down in one mighty swoop that was enough to crack the earth the blade connected with even as the streaks of energy shot forth to devour his enemy without so much as a moments effort from the half-breed.
He stood frozen, sword still lodged in the crack it had forged in the earth, while body parts flew to the ground around him, small speckles of blood coming to dot his face-- the only traces left of the demon army that had stood there before.
The smirk on his face had long since fled, and his eyes had hardened again as he wrenched his sword from the earth, sheathing it calmly before turning to walk away from the death scene before him as though nothing had happened at all.
‘You can tell father he had nothing to worry about.’ Inuyasha said in an offhand sort of way to the insects he knew were lurking just out of sight, stalking him. Making sure he didn’t run or anything like that. ‘Those demons were pieces of shit. Not even worth my time.’
The sound of buzzing filled the air as some of the hell-wasps moved to fly ahead and report to his father.
One of the loathed insects made the mistake of flying too close to him.
In a flash his hand left it’s position at his side, slicing the insect in half with his deadly claws.
By the time the two halves of the body hit the ground, Inuyasha was already several feet away, and still walking.
He felt a faint twinge of satisfaction at the angry buzzing that filled his ears as the Saimyoushou watched their comrade fall, but the insects had enough sense to stay away. They knew he would not hesitate to kill them if they came close enough to strike.
The sound quickly faded as the insects again flew to hide in the thick miasma that covered the sky, and the air was again filled with the emptiness that always seemed to consume his life.
Like something was missing.
And not even the rush he something felt during battle (which had faded considerably since he no longer met any opponents who really offered him a challenge) could distract him from it anymore.
There was something he needed that seemed to reside just beyond his grasp.
His mind knew what it was, but it simply refused to tell him, even though he desperately needed to find out.
It felt like his entire being-- not his body, but his soul and heart and mind-- depended on it.
Yet he had no time or way to find out what it was he longed for.
His father constantly had him fighting off rogue demons and their armies that continually tried to take over his lands, and the rest of the time he was locked inside the castle-- forbidden from leaving. Ever.
It was a life worse than that of a slave’s since he hadn’t always worked as a slave-warrior, but had always been trapped this way.
He could still vaguely remember a time before he became the flawless killing machine for his father, and that made his existence all the more unbearable.
Not to mention the fact that he was a hanyou.
And being such made him unworthy even of the title of “warrior”.
Not that he really was one anyway.
He was a fighter, he was a killer, but he wasn’t a warrior.
He fought and slaughtered for his father’s amusement and his mother’s safety, and spent the rest of his time locked away from the world, giving him the label of a blood-thirsty half-breed, and he was never given the chance to alter that title-- quell the vengeance set against him for it, because he was too busy playing mock-gladiator for his father.
That’s all he was. Nothing more.
But he wanted something more.
He wanted to taste the sweet release of freedom-- the crystal clear droplets of water that flowed untainted just beyond the castle’s barriers.
He wanted to smell air that was not thick with miasma and did not reek of blood, and feel earth that pulsed with the life it gave to forests and trees.
He wanted to hear birds sing in the mornings and wolves howl at night-- their songs, so different from one another and yet the same.
He wanted to see a world made up of colours other than black purple and crimson, and actually watch the sun rise and set to a clear blue sky full of stars, not the sickly miasma that always hung over him now in a thick purple blanket.
He wanted freedom.
But, as he felt the tug of the beads around his neck (yet another way of binding his will to his father), he knew that could never and would never happen.
He was hanyou, after all.
He wasn’t supposed to be happy.
He was supposed to serve his father without question, and thank the Gods each and every day of his life that he had been granted another few hours to walk the earth alive.
That was his purpose.
That was his fate.
And life in any form, no matter how it was given to him, was a gift-- his only form of freedom.
He should be grateful for it.
But he was not.
Because inside he still ached for something more.
