Misconceptions of a hero.
Kagome stressfully fussed over her
textbooks.
“UGH, this is impossible!”
Worst of all, she thought to
herself, Inuyasha will undoubtedly be coming through the well soon, I am
later than normal. Finals were murder
though; I guess he wouldn’t understand that… he is always asking about ‘my
silly spell books’.
Kagome put her pencil down and shut
her book over her hand. Staring out her
window, she let out a long sigh. The
moon shone so bright through the clouded night sky, and it wasn’t long before
Kagome’s thoughts began to drift.
She spent so much time worrying
about everything, School, Tests that she was unprepared for, What her grandfather
had been telling her friends and such regarding her long and frequent
absences. She also worried about the
Shikon shards… defeating all the enemies, Shippou…Inuyasha. A laugh escaped her throat as she
imagined him, pacing back and forth near the well entrance, anxious for her to
hurry back. It was truly quite amusing
how peeved he became whenever she was late.
Truth be told, she always missed him too whenever she returned from the
Feudal era. Buyo brought Kagome out of
her thoughts suddenly when she jumped up on the desk.
“I know Buyo, it is late…” she
stared over at her clock, almost 1 am. Definitely
need to get some rest. Kagome walked
over to her bed and lay down. Buyo
curled up beside her and started to purr…If only she could shut her mind off,
or at least think about other things. Perhaps,
for one night, she pondered I can drown out my thoughts. But it was no such luck. Kagome drifted off to sleep thinking only of
thoughts and memories from another time.
The next morning she awoke to
two golden eyes staring at her face, intently.
Alarmed, Kagome jumped back grabbing her blanket for coverage on
reflex.
“INUYASHA!” She screamed out. “What
on earth are you doing here?!”
“Whadaya mean ‘what am I
doing here’ Kagome, you were the one who was fucking late! Whadaya think
I’m doing here?”
“Well, you didn’t have to wake me
up that way!”
“WHAT way? I didn’t
wake you up, you did that all on your own bitch.”
“Well, you scared me!” she
retorted to him. For a slight moment, he
almost looked as if he were sorry. They
sat in silence. Kagome moved her head,
trying to shake the sleep from her eyes, and then finally broke the awkward
silence.
“I suppose I should get
dressed now.” She stated giving Inuyasha that same damn look that her and Sango
gave to he and Miroku when they were about to bathe. Inuyasha just sat
there. Dumbfounded, as if he didn’t
realize her meaning he scratched his nose.
“Well?” she questioned.
“Yeah…?”
“INUYASHA!”
“OKAY all right, damn bitch you ain’t gotta tell me twice. I’ll be on the roof.”
“NO peeking!” she yelled out at him as he made his way to the bedroom window.
“Who the fuck do you think I am Kagome?
Miroku? … shit.. What the hell is wrong
with women, one time, by complete accident because of that
fucking monk…” He trailed off
mumbling
some more obscenities, Kagome giggled at him; it always made her laugh when
he acted so
tough. Really though, they were only
words.
She gathered some things to
bring back with them, and walked back up to the room for the shards.
“Oi.” She heard Inuyasha say, so very nonchalant
and monotone. Kagome peeked up and
smiled at him.
“There you
are!”
“We leavin this stink hole yet
Kagome?”
“Well, I’m ready to go … you?”
“Always.” Inuyasha lifted Kagome to his back and they
went back through the old well.
~*~
Kagome was partially surprised to
see Miroku sitting err… rather slumped against the well when she and
Inuyasha came through.
“Miroku! What on earth are
you doi—” as he turned his face to look at the both of them, there was no need
for that question. Inuyasha let out a
hmph.
“You fucking monk! Can’t you keep
your damn hands off of her ass?”
Inuyasha screamed at Miroku.
“Inuyasha,” Miroku seemingly
ignored the dog demons rants “how was your journey back to Kagome’s time?”
“Fuckin great
lecher, just like it always is, stinky and full of Ningen’s.”
“Hey
Inuyasha I don’t call you names!” Kagome
shot at him with a glare so intense his bones felt as if they would break from
the coldness. “Now perhaps, we should go find the others.”
“Why? Sango is prolly just still fuming about that
asshole monk’s wandering hand, and Shippou just wants the food.” Inuyasha made a nudge over towards the monk
who sat against the well still, rubbing the spot on is face with a
curiosity.
“Lets just
go Inuyasha…. they have been waiting after all.” In an obedient way, he grabbed for the monk
and started to head off with Kagome towards Kaede’s village. Miroku stood back.
“What’s the
matter Miroku? Aren’t you coming?” Inuyasha asked him.
“Eheh, um
actually, I think that it would be wiser for me to stay behind for a bit
longer, my dear Sango would probably like her space.” Miroku had an embarrassed expression upon his
swollen face as he rubbed the back of his head in wonderment.
“Keh,”
Inuyasha growled, I’m just surprised that he knows what space is…not that it
has ever mattered to HIM before, the beating he received from Sango was a daily
thing, kinda like…he and Shippou fighting or him and. …
“Inuyasha?” For a moment her voice sounded sweeter than
anything he had ever heard. He knew he
couldn’t face that though. After all,
there was still that promise to Kikyo, how could he possibly fall for another
woman, even if she was her reincarnate.
Something inside of him always drew him to her, even though she was
indeed now nothing but clay and dirt with soul collectors in her midst. Lost in thought, Inuyasha neglected to
realize what had put him into the trance in the first place. Kagome’s voice.
“Inuyasha?
I said are you coming?” She
grabbed for his arm to pull him along.
“Huh? Oh... yeah… I’m comin, sorry
just had something on my mind is all.”
He glared back in the distance behind them, past the well, hell past the
horizon even. I know you are still
out there Kikyo, and I WILL find you, avenge you. Naraku will be destroyed. He looked over towards Kagome, and he could
have sworn for a slight moment, it was indeed the priestess Kikyo standing
beside him… his face must have shown it because, she looked at him and angrily
turned away.
They continued onward towards the village.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh I know he is thinking about her again, why does he always look at me
like I am she? Ugh, I’M KAGOME YOU
IMBICILE! Not Kikyo. Ahw she knew she
couldn’t exactly be mad at him for thinking about her. He was in love with her, so many years ago,
they were both wronged, it seemed only natural to love her still, a thought
stood out in her mind impeccably more so than any other, is that what I am? To
him? Am I just, her reincarnated soul?
Is that why he wants me here, so that he can savor Kikyo without, actually.
Ugh! So confusing. INUYASHA WHY DO YOU HAVE TO CONFUSE ME SO! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A FEW HOURS LATER…
As the night falls, and the others
are getting ready to rest up from the long day, Kagome sees Inuyasha run
off.
Where could HE possibly be going off to… she thought. Out of curiosity, she followed.
All the way past the trees, to a hill that was well hidden from plain sight,
yet, the entire village was visible from the vast empty plane. She came up behind him as he sat, lost in yet
another thought.
“Inuyasha?”
she whispered as if not to scare him away. “ Are you alright? You have been
quiet, especially quiet after we came back to the village…” She tried to catch
his face, but he noticed and turned away.
He grunted ever so slightly, “Are you okay Inuya—”
“WHY all
the damn questions Kagome? I am fine
alright…” He hunched up more than he had been before, Kikyo. He was still thinking of her. He couldn’t even look her in the eyes, that
was why he avoided … why did she let it bother her so much? Because Kagome, she thought, you
remind him of her…
“I’m sorry, I’ll go back and let
you think alone Inuyasha.” She turned to
walk away when suddenly; she felt his clawed hand grab her wrist. Slowly, he stood to face her. His eyes, as golden as the sunset, met
hers. He grabbed her other wrist and
opened his mouth to speak. Momentarily
out of words, he looked down at the ground.
Then shot a glance straight into her eyes.
“Kagome,
she isn’t you”
She could only stand frozen; no words would form in her
head.
“Inu…Inuyassh—”
He closed his eyes and put a clawed finger to her soft lips. Lips he secretly dreamt of kissing, this just
wasn’t the time. Don’t speak Kagome,
I don’t know how long I am going to let these emotions take me over, just…don’t
ruin it…he thought to himself. He
grabbed her waist and pulled her close.
His arms held her, one crossing her back to hold her delicate head to
his shoulder, and the other…finding rest on the very small of her back. She simply embraced him back holding him
around his waist. She closed her eyes to
allow herself to become lost … as if to cherish this moment forever. Then….
“A shard!”
She gasped, pulling away fast.
“Huh? A
what? Where?” He fussed…seemingly trying to act as if nothing had happened.
“It’s
close, we should get the others. The
scent is strong.”
“Yeah, and
now thatcha mention it… the stench of demon is too.” He growled and put a hand to his Tetsusaiga
then motioned to Kagome. “Get on.” With a nod, she jumped onto his back and they
made their way towards Kaede’s village and the clearing.
~*~
Miroku sat
beside Sango in the clearing. He could
almost feel the heat from her blushing face as he settled onto the log, or
perhaps it was only from the fire. Miroku
calm that damn hand of yours, there is no need to get another bump or bruise
because you cannot control your own damn perversions.
It had gotten dark in the small
amount of time it took to get to the village from the well, and upon arriving,
Inuyasha had seemed irked by something on his mind. He was quieter than normal and Kagome even
seemed to be on edge. Where have they
been? Miroku wondered. They had
all been getting ready for bed when suddenly…there was a flash of red I assume
was Inuyasha running off somewhere to sulk, but where had Kagome gone? Did she go after him to see what was the
matter? They all knew that Inuyasha
only got in these moods when Kikyo was on his mind or if he felt guilty about
something. Miroku looked over at Sango. The fire lit her nicely, the shadows danced
across her face in an amazing spectacle.
He could not help but stare, before he caught himself, she snapped a
blank look over to him. Miroku looked
away fast, embarrassed for staring.
“Miroku
what is it?” she asked so innocently.
He could not bring himself to look at her.
“Oh nothing
my dear Sango…it’s just…your face…the fire…never mind.” He just looked into the fire, with a blank
expression. Sango’s thoughts began to
race as well, why do you always push him away you silly girl! She
thought, she knew the reason…and it wasn’t THAT irrational! She wanted
tenderness, not the perverse ass grab that Miroku always opted for, ugh, if
only he knew that without me having to say anything to him. To think, that all those damn slaps and
whacks would get it through his head! Men are utterly hopeless Sango,
even the holy ones. She looked back
at him, his face still a bit nerved she decided to ask him what he was trying
to say.
“Anata,
what do you mean? Now you honestly can’t
expect me to just let it go, when there was obviously something you wanted to
say to me…” she tried to catch his expression, but it was vacant. He just looked at her with a silly boyish
grin on his face. Then she felt it...
that damn hand of his...
"MIROOOKKKUUU!" she went
to slap him but, lucky for him, Inuyasha and Kagome stormed into the clearing
in front of them ... there was a panic in the air and on their faces.
“Lady Kagome, Inuyasha, what ever
could this be about eh heh,” He looked too relieved as he slithered away from
Sango’s reach.
“There is a demon close by, Kagome
sensed a shard.”
“Before you sensed the demon
Inuyasha? What exactly were you and Kagome doing that distracted even your
scent?” Miroku asked him.
“Nothing you stupid fucking monk,
sorry I can’t always sense everything. Why would we be doing anything? Who the fuck
do you think I am? She’s a miko for hell’s sake! Get your goddamn head
out of the gutter.” Inuyasha looked as uncomfortable as Miroku had been only
moments prior, but Miroku thought it was best not to push the issue. But still… he wondered. Before anyone could take a second glance at
Inuyasha and Kagome’s blushing faces, there was a deafening cry coming from the
trees behind the clearing. Upon looking
up, Kagome let out a gasp towards Inuyasha as a seemingly 10 foot python
appeared from the sky. Kagome shot an
arrow towards the python, towards the shard but it was lost in a thick
miasma.
“I’ll fucking rip you to pieces you
filthy piece of shit!” Inuyasha yelled
out pulling his Tetsusaiga from its hilt.
He charged at the python summoning his wind scar, but the python averted
the attack and slithered towards the village.
“Oh no you don’t you damn vermin!
You are not getting near that village!”
Inuyasha tried to sense the demonic aura that surrounded the
python. At first, there was nothing, but
then…he found it. His Tetsusaiga in
hand, he knew precisely what to do.
“BACKLASH WAVE!” he shouted. In the matter of seconds, the python was
nothing but torn scales and ash.
“Kagome, quick get the shard before it has a chance to resurrect!” Kagome ran over to the remains and picked up
the pink shard from a pile of ash and placed it in the jar around her
neck.
“Got it!” she smiled sweetly to the
rest of her friends and skipped back to where Inuyasha and Miroku were
standing. Miroku still seemed to be
avoiding Sango’s scorn.
“I think that we should be more
careful about things you guys…I mean, no one even knew that demon was coming,
Inuyasha, why weren’t you able to sense it?”
Sango looked at him and Kagome.
There was something off about Inuyasha; it was more than just the
reclusive attitude that had come to show face in the past days. Something was bothering him. He just growled and walked away.
“I am not talking to any more of
you fuckin people tonight got it?” He
screamed from the tree in which he found refuge. As Kagome gazed up at him, he tried to ignore
the look of disappointment that had crossed her face. Inuyasha was changing … he could feel it, the
new moon was coming and he would lose all of his demonic powers. He would be nothing but a fuckin ningen, just
like the rest of them. They are your
friends Inuyasha! He thought suddenly feeling dreadful for calling them
such a vile word. How many times had he
called Kagome that? And she took all the
insults, as if they were nothing.
Inuyasha let out a sigh. The real
fear was his weakness and vulnerability.
If you nearly…tonight with … Kagome makes you weak in your Hanyou
state Inuyasha! You know it will be
worse if you don’t learn to control your damn emotions. You cannot slip! He watched Kagome walk
back to Kaede’s hut, Shippou opted to reside where the fire kept he and Kirara
warm instead of joining Kagome. There
was a sinking feeling that kept lurching and reeling into Inuyasha’s
chest. It had to have been the glare
that she gave him before she walked off.
On no account, had he ever seen Kagome so disappointed. This would bother him for the rest of the
night, which he knew. He had to see her,
make sure that she was alright that she wasn’t too upset. He hated to be the reason for her tears. When he was certain that all had finally
fallen asleep, Inuyasha leapt from the tree and made his way towards Kagome’s
hut.
Kagome slept so peacefully in
the sleeping contraption that she had always brought with her. The moonlight lit her face as Inuyasha slowly
and quietly tried to make his way to her side.
She started to stir slightly as he neared, so he just opted for the
space above where her head lie. He
watched as she breathed rhythmically and steadily, her nostrils flaring faintly
as she took in and let out her breaths.
She was really beautiful. To
be honest, Inuyasha thought, you only slightly resemble Kikyo. She really isn’t you… I meant that Kagome, I
meant that with all my Hanyou heart and soul.
Inuyasha just sat there. He
was so lost in thought he didn’t realize that Kagome had awoken from her light
slumber.
“Inuyasha?” She whispered a bit groggy. He barely heard her at first, then it
registered in his mind that she was now sitting up and looking at him square in
the eyes.
“Huh? Oh…”
he looked down momentarily with an embarrassed calmness. “Sorry Kagome, I just wanted to see if you
were ok, I … I thought I heard something.” He then stood and turned away, preparing
to leave. She stood as well, in an
effort to stop him from going.
“Well,
where are you going? Stay Inuyasha, I would
enjoy the companionship… since Shippou isn’t sleeping in here with me, it’s
kinda… lonesome.” She blushed as she
reached out and grabbed for his arm sliding her hand to his wrist and tugging
him back. Huh? Inuyasha
thought. She WANTS me here?
“Sure, I
mean… I guess I can stay…if you ... you know if you… really want me
to.”
“I do
Inuyasha. Besides, I think I need to
talk to you. Is that… is that okay?” she
gave him an uneasy look as if she didn’t quite know how to approach what was on
her mind.
“Huh? Oh,
yea…you can talk to me about anything Kagome, what’s wrong?” It was nice when Inuyasha wasn’t acting like
a complete jerk, when he discarded the name-calling and was civil to her.
“Well,
see…I think I have figured out why you have been acting so … strange.” She paused for a moment and met his golden
eyes. He looked down and grunted, but it
wasn’t the aggravated and angry grunt that he usually gave. She took that as his reaction to
continue. “I know it’s because the new
moon is coming tomorrow night Inuyasha.”
Inuyasha looked up at her, a look of agreement on his face.
“I know you
hate your human form, it leaves you open to all the dangers…I know you hate
that you …that you can’t …pro…tect me…” she looked down, and so did he. You’re right Kagome…he thought to
himself. I hate when I can’t protect you, keep you from
getting hurt…but not even the Tetsusaiga can be wielded… Inuyasha reached
out to her, lifting her chin with his hand.
“Kagome
I…I…” He just couldn’t get the words out.
Perhaps it was his prided demon side trying to prevent his human heart
from telling her the truth, or perhaps…Kagome interrupted his thoughts as if
finishing his own thoughts.
“I know
Inuyasha, and it’s okay. Now…why did you
really come here Inuyasha? There
wasn’t any noise… was there.” She
sounded so sure of her reasoning. She
didn’t even give him time to answer before she wrapped her arms around his neck
and held him. His arms suspended in the
air surrounding her hips before finally resting around her waist, his head
resting on her shoulder. He closed his
eyes and inhaled her scent. She smelled
so good; not at all like any other ningen he had met. It was…it was…nice.
“Kagome…Kagome
I …” He couldn’t speak. Why does she
always do this to me! I never know what
to say when this shit happens…I should make her stop…but, I just can’t this
is…so…Kagome loosened her embrace and he did the same. They stood in front of each other yet again
staring into each other’s eyes.
“I told you
I know already Inuyasha.” What did
she know? He wondered. She couldn’t possibly know what was going
on inside his heart. His nijan
heart.
“No, you
don’t Kagome…I really don’t think you do.” He stepped closer to her and held her chin in
his hand again. Lifting her mouth to
his, he kissed her soft lips still holding her cheek. She resisted at first, partially out
astonishment that Inuyasha was actually kissing her, but as she felt his tongue
enter her mouth and his other hand on the small of her back she relaxed and
kissed him back. All uncertainty was
aside. His hand dropped from her face
and went behind her to the nape of her neck.
Kagome lifted her arms behind him as well letting her hands find rest on
his head. When the kiss was broken,
Inuyasha kissed her cheek and hugged her close to him. Kissing her neck he whispered in her ear.
“Kagome
I … I Lo..”
“KAGOME! I
had a nightma… Inuyasha, what are YOU doing in here!” Shippou looked upset for a split second at
the inconvenience of his presence.
Inuyasha jumped back startled.
Kagome did the same. They were
both reddened by embarrassment. Damnit!
Inuyasha thought. Why do I always
get interrupted? Before he could
give it a second thought he decided he should leave before further humiliation
incurred. With a grunt, he turned and
left the hut. That damn foxfire
demon! Always getting in the way! It
was still dark; he knew that if he didn’t get a bit more sleep, there wouldn’t
be much energy for his nijan state that next night.
~*~
The next
morning, Inuyasha awoke to find the branches didn’t create much of a shield
from the cruel days light. The sun shone
brightly in his eyes and he almost fell from the tree in which he had lain that
night. He knew today was going to… for
lack of any better words… suck. He also
knew that if he wasn’t careful something else similar to last night could
happen. Only this time… Inuyasha stop fucking thinking that way!
He scolded himself at the thought of he and Kagome … even though it was
a nice thought; he knew he couldn’t do that.
It would ruin everything Inuyasha.
Why are you even thinking something so…perverse…you aren’t Miroku. Man I need to stop talking to that fuckin
monk. The camp below had been
cleared earlier from the looks of things, where was everyone? Inuyasha
wondered. He leapt from the tree landing
on the dirt packed ground with a soft thump.
He surveyed the area to see if anyone was even out there before heading
to the huts.
Inside
Kaede’s hut, he found Miroku, Sango, and Kagome sitting around a burning pot of
something with Lady Kaede, Shippou and Kirara. Miroku was the first to notice
him standing near the entrance.
“Inuyasha,
won’t you join us?” He looked up at Inuyasha from the bowl of something in his
lap to acknowledge the dog demon’s presence.
Inuyasha felt a slight growl form in the back of his throat as he
stepped into the hut and found his spot near the monk. Kagome looked at him through her bangs that
swept across her blushed pale face. She
looked semi-embarrassed, but she reached over to the little pot in the center of
them all and scraped some slop into a bowl, passing it to Inuyasha.
“Keh . . .”
he uttered and then looked down at the slop that she had given. “What the fuck is this shit? It looks like…vomit!” He made a face
as he continued to stare down at the mush in the bowl.
“Kagome
says its called…oak…oakmean?
Piped Shippou with question in his voice.
“Oatmeal
Shippou. It’s called oatmeal…and it is
not vomit Inuyasha. It’s good for you,
it will give you energy and keep you going through the day!” Kagome cheerfully
informed him.
“Energy
eh…? Well, then I guess it couldn’t harm any…” Inuyasha scooped some of the oatmeal
up and sniffed it. It didn’t smell too
bad. He lifted the thing that Kagome had
branded ‘spoon’ to his mouth and closed his eyes as he shoved it in. It doesn’t taste half bad either… he
thought, and much to his surprise. It
wasn’t chewy, more like…soup, only thicker.
Energy… Inuyasha thought. That is just what I need. Inuyasha practically inhaled the rest
of the oatmeal in his bowl before asking for more. Just as he was about to wolf down a second
helping, the ground started to shake.
Kagome grabbed for Shippou just as
the oatmeal pot tipped and spilled all over where the young kitsune had been
sitting. Inuyasha put his hand to his
hilt, expecting to pull the Tetsusaiga any minute and fight. He stormed out of the hut towards the source
of the shake, only to find Naraku’s baboon puppet standing in the center of the
village.
“Naraku!” Inuyasha growled pulling the Tetsusaiga from
its hilt. The puppet said not a word; it
just stayed positioned where it was.
“What, no
message from you Naraku? You fucking
bastard …” Inuyasha was about to call upon his wind scar to be rid of the
bothersome puppet when suddenly, it began to speak...
“When the
moon is full I will attack. You will not
be able to hide dear Inuyasha; no escape…” then came the words that Inuyasha
feared from Naraku. “I know your
secret Inuyasha. And tonight will be
your demise. I will finally have in my
possession the sacred shard of the four souls…I will be all-powerful, you stand
not a chance…and your precious reincarnate priestess will be imprisoned
to help me find the others in which I cannot.”
“You
fucking bastard! I’LL KILL YOU BEFORE YOU EVER LAY A FINGER ON
HER!” Inuyasha was now fuming at the
mere thought of Kagome having to spend an eternity helping him…at
the thought of him taking over her mind, Kagome trapped within his grasp
forever… until… the shard is complete …until he…kills her. Inuyasha lifted his massive sword to
eliminate the puppet that stood menacing before them. In a matter of seconds the baboon was nothing
but a piece of broken wood on the dusted ground.
“Secret? Inuyasha you don’t think he meant…”
“I think
that is exactly what that fucker meant!
How the hell did he know about my transformation night?” Inuyasha put
the Tetsusaiga into the hilt as he paced back in forth in a fury. Kagome could tell he was scared…though he
never showed it sometimes it seemed apparent to her.
“Well
Inuyasha, what are we going to do?” Miroku questioned.
“WE?” he
grunted.
“I think
maybe finding somewhere to safely hide them would be of the wiser for the
night. Don’t you agree my dear Sango…?”
Miroku moved closer to her … hand creeping.
Sango moved away and pulled her Hiraikotsu down slightly to warn him of
what she would do to him if he tried it.
Miroku blushed and cowered back.
“Why the
fuck would she agree with you, you lecherou--”
“Actually
Inuyasha…I do agree with Miroku.
Perhaps it would be best if we kept you and Kagome out of his grasp for
the night. Miroku you and I could take
care of any demons he would bring our way…Shippou and Kirara too.” Miroku
suddenly seemed to be hiding a smirk as he agreed with Sango’s reasoning’s
about the situation at hand. Inuyasha
crossed his arms and let out a knowing grunt aimed to Miroku.
“And how
the hell were you planning on doing that monk?
Where could you possibly hide Kagome and I from that bastard
Naraku? You really think he wont get to
us if he has the opportunity? You
honestly think that fuck wont find us and kill the both of us?” Inuyasha seemed a bit more nervous about this
than Miroku had originally guessed he would.
He turned from them, eyes on the dirt, arms crossed as if to seem angry
and irritated.
“Inuyasha,”
Kagome sounded a bit scrambled about everything that was happening…he could
hear it in her voice. “Maybe it wouldn’t
hurt if we did so. Your youkai wont be
able to protect us, so maybe … we would be safer if we hid out.” Inuyasha looked up from the ground at the
sound of her voice, and slightly peeked over his shoulder. He caught her eye and turned to face
her. She looked terrified. Inuyasha sighed and unfolded his arms letting
them drop to his sides.
“Oh…alright
I suppose we could…” He muttered. “But
where the fuck were you planning to hide us at?” They all looked at each other with a gawk of
displacement on their faces. Suddenly,
Sango had a thought. Her face shot up
from the spot on the ground in which it had been staring.
“MIROKU!
What about… you know…” Miroku looked blankly at her. After a moment, his eyes lit up wildly.
“Yes Sango
that is perfect! Inuyasha, Kagome, there a place, that we know of where
you will be safe, and it is not that far from here either.” Sango blushed at Miroku’s glare as he spoke.
“Well monk,
are you going to lead the way or what?” Inuyasha was getting irritated, it
wouldn’t be long before his Youkai disappeared, he knew he had to move; he had
to be able to protect her. Naraku,
you wont touch her. Inuyasha thought
as they walked along a broken path of rocks and sand.
“What’s
with those two Inuyasha?” Kagome asked
as they trailed behind the two.
“Fuck if I
know. Sango looks awful embarrassed
though.” Inuyasha looked at Kagome but
she turned away suddenly at his glance, flushed. Inuyasha simply curved his attention back
towards Sango and Miroku and where they were going. He wondered what Kagome was thinking
about. Lately she seemed to be a bit
nervous around him, it seemed odd to Inuyasha, seeing her act so…so
uncomfortable around him. Lost in
thought, Inuyasha neglected to realize that they had stopped. He glanced towards Kagome again who was
looking at the sky. She looked worried,
and for good reason too, it was getting dark … his youkai would vanish in a
mere matter of hours. He started to
panic inside, thoughts racing. Shit
Inuyasha, if that bastard gets to you … to her, that’s the end. In an attempt to hide his fear and
disgruntlement Inuyasha did the only thing he could think of.
“Eh
Miroku! We almost there? I don’t know if you noticed or not but…its
getting dark.” He tried to calm his
voice but alas it did not work. “Why the
fuck have we stopped?”
“Don’t be
alarmed Inuyasha, and don’t overreact but… there is a demonic aura surrounding
the area…” Miroku stepped back a bit towards Kagome and Inuyasha as Sango
grasped the handle on the top of her Hiraikotsu. If there was going to be a battle, Inuyasha
wouldn’t have the ability to fight for long.
“The cave
is ahead just a bit more…” Sango was looking around, and even with Inuyasha’s
small amount of aptitude he could sense it too.
“If we could get you there then that would be half the battle, hopefully
that demonic aura is nothing and we can avoid it until you are safe.” She continued to lead the way with Miroku at
her side.
Kagome was miserably quieter than
Inuyasha had ever seen her before. They
were all on edge. What was so
threatening about this Inuyasha? He
pondered. He never follows through,
why are you so… worried? Inuyasha
shook his head to be rid of the pesky thoughts.
There was a rustling in the brush just behind Inuyasha and he looked up
snapping out of his mindset.
“Huhmn? What was that?” Inuyasha turned only to see nothing but the
brush and the sunset. Something was
wrong, he sensed it before, and Kirara was acting peculiarly out of it, he was
almost positive something with a strong youkai scent was following them... a
demon. Sango must have picked up on
Kirara’s agitation again because her hand was once again gripping the handle atop
her Hiraikotsu and she was walking as if she were being extra cautious. Then suddenly Miroku lurched forward,
throwing himself on to Sango. It took a
moment for Inuyasha and Kagome to realize what had happened, but not too
long. Inuyasha pulled the Tetsusaiga and
leveled it to the ground pointed at the predator.
Miroku held Sango in his arms.
“Sango! Please tell me you are alright!” Miroku pleaded with a new kind of fear in his
voice. She stirred and held her head as
Miroku helped her up.
“I’m fine Miroku but why did you…”
she trailed off as she looked up to see a two headed slippery serpent-like
black demon towering…hovering over them.
It didn’t seem all that threatening, but regardless.
Inuyasha ducked back as it rushed
towards him in a half-assed attack.
“What the fuck was that! Is that all ya got? Kagome, is there a shard?” He kept his Tetsusaiga aimed at the demon as
he looked over his shoulder at Kagome.
“No, there is nothing.” She
answered.
“Then why the fuck is it attacking us?” The demon lunged at Inuyasha again seemingly
trying to get at Kagome. Inuyasha
grabbed her and pulled her back … out of the way. “Shit, this one wont let up what the fuck are
we going to do? I can’t get a clear aim
with the Tetsusaiga.”
“Inuyasha, Kagome, stay back!” Sango cried out as Miroku mounted
Kirara. The fire cat demon took to
flight. Miroku and Sango took over the
battle as the days light diminished further.
“Sango! Distract it!”
Miroku pulled a sutra from his Kimono.
“Hiraikotsu!” Sango yelled as she
aimed her oversized boomerang at the slimy two-headed beast. Her attack was thus countered by powers that
no one expected this slime to possess, sending the Hiraikotsu back at a very
stunned Sango.
It emitted knives.
Everything happened so fast after
that moment. Kagome shot a single arrow
towards the demon as Kirara brought Miroku behind it. With the sutra he pulled at hand, he laid it
between the necks of the demon’s two-heads.
Kagome’s arrow found its way into the creature’s chest… the disgusting
fiend was as good as gone. But before it
met its demise, it discharged a few more of its razor-like knives. Aimed to Kagome. She stood there frozen … unable to move.
As if on instinct, Inuyasha dove,
pushing Kagome out of harms way. Two of
the three knives that the demon discharged, hit Inuyasha. The third snagged itself on Kagome’s shirt,
ripping it. She fell from the force and
landed in rocks and dust.
“Fuck!” He screamed rolling onto his side. “Kagome!
Are you hurt?” She stumbled over
to him ripping the sleeve of her shirt off to stop his chest from bleeding.
“Inuyasha you stupid
dog-demon! Why would you do that, you
aren’t as strong as you think! You are
going to be human come dark! What is wrong
with you?!” She was crying, Inuyasha
just glared at her, happy that she was okay other than her tattered and torn
clothing. He just grinned and closed his
eyes. He transformed as the night fell
into its entirety, just before passing out.
Mostly from the pain.
