A/N: Ello Ello! This is my first Kag/Sess fic and I found that I am currently in love with this pairing, mainly because it is a challenge to get it to work. This means that yes! This story has a plot! WOW! It also means that no, they will not fall in love right away! OMG! Drama is a huuuuge part in this and you will all wish to shoot me eventually for my horrible habit of doing mean things to characters. Buuut, I do hope you just shoot my leg or something that I don't need to write. ^^;; Annnyways, I looove reviews and your input is greatly appreciated. In fact I will now post up a deal for you all. Every ten reviews I'll draw a pic for the person who makes the tenth review. ^_- Anyways, enough rambling from my end, On with the story!

I stand, look in my hands
I talk with these lines
It's not the answer
I'm crying and now I know
Looking the sky
I search an answer
So free, free to be
I'm not another liar
I just want to be myself... myself
And now the beat inside me
is a sort of a cold breeze and I've
never any feeling inside
around me I bring my body
carry it into another world
I know I live... but like a stone I'm falling down
Damned, looking into the sky
I can feel this rain
right now it's falling on me
fly, I just want to fly
life is all mine
some days I cry alone,
but I know I'm not the only one
I see that another day is gone
I don't wanna die...
Please be here when I arrive, don't die... please

Miame…
A soft sigh escaped the lips of an angelic face, a child's sleeping face. Skin as pale as snow practically glowed in the moonlight that gazed through a small window barely obscured by a thin cloth. Thick locks of black curled about the child in gleaming waves as she slept. A tiny hand clutched a small white dog doll to her chest in an almost vice like grip. Her brows furrowed and her rose colored lips were drawn down into a frown.
Miame, Wake.
A soft noise of protest freed itself from the child before thick lashes finally fluttered open to reveal deep grey. The girl blinked her blurred eyes a few times as she adjusted to the darkness. Her hold on the stuffed animal tightened and she slowly sat up, the thin violet blanket that covered her frail frame collecting in her lap. She had to be only about six years old or so from appearances and her innocence seemed to radiate from her. A tall figure stood over her, obviously male from his broad shoulders and muscular frame. He appeared to be only in his twenties, the light from the moon barely illuminating his well defined features. His deep grey eyes watched the child anxiously and when the girl looked up at him concern instantly flooded her features.
" Chichiun?" She asked softly. He pressed a finger to his lips and she instantly covered her mouth with one of her hands.
Miame, be as quiet as you can...Do you remember that black outfit that I brought you?
The child nodded and watched the man with wide eyes. A small smile curved his lips.
Good. Hurry and put it on. Be as quiet as you can…
Without hesitation the girl slipped out from her bed and padded over to a small chest the sat near the far wall. She opened it and began digging through the garments inside quickly while being as quiet as possible. Her heart beat thudded wildly in her chest as fear quickened her movements. The girl's father turned to watch the closed door with narrowed eyes, his brows furrowed together and his hand instinctively moved to grip the hilt of a blade that rested at his side. They were close. He felt a tug on the sleeve of his haori and the tawny haired man looked down to see his daughter clad entirely in black, her large eyes questioning him. Without a word he lifted the girl into his free arm and moved to the window. His sharp gaze examined the outside world carefully, studying the dark shapes of the surrounding village for movement. The sky to the south, toward which the window faced had begun to change. It was a change that only the two pairs of gray eyes could detect as the once clear black slowly became tinted with reds and violets. Soon.
Quickly the man turned and moved to the door, slipping into the darkened room that it opened into before exiting into the cool night. The village was sound asleep and deathly quiet, a fact that unnerved the man. His hold on the child tightened slightly and he began moving toward the far end of town, away from the changing sky. He moved at a brisk pace that easily took him to the outskirts of the village. The little girl in his arms held tightly to her stuffed dog as she stared over his shoulder at the sky. The spiraling colors appeared to be chasing them. "Chichi..." She whimpered and her hold on her father's haori tightened. The night was uncharacteristically warm for the far north that the village occupied, even for late spring. Hot air closed around the pair thickly like a fist attempting to strangle them. Miame felt the fine hair on the back of her neck rise on end and a flux of some strange tingling ran through her veins. Someone was calling for her. Not just someone, but rather the sky, the colors, the earth itself. A soft noise escaped her and she felt herself being drawn toward the south. Why were they walking away from the calling? Her father repositioned the girl, cradling her so that his chest blocked her view of the south.
Miame, no. We must get away from the south, from those lights.
Confused gray looked up at the hardened face of the man who held her as her little mind attempted to grasp what was happening. They had run before from the lights, and every time she felt her soul call out to them. However, those times before had been different. She had been younger, too weak to feel the call. Now that she was growing she could feel it singing seductively to her.
"Why do we run from them?" She asked timidly. The raven haired child felt so confused about everything. Her father had never really told her about the reason for their constant traveling toward the north. The blonde male let out a tired sigh as the welcoming arms of the forest surrounded them.
We run because I cannot let them have what they want. You mustn't let the lights see you, my little dove. They will take you away from me.
Her eyes went wide in fear and she clung to her father tightly. She didn't want to leave her father! The child hid her face in his chest and forced away the calls from the south. " No! I won't let them! I want to always stay with you ChiChi!" Miame exclaimed, earning a warm smile from the man. He stroked her hair affectionately and halted his stride in order to hug the child tightly. He would do everything in his power to protect the girl, anything to keep the innocent child safe. She inhaled the familiar scent of her guardian, the wild aroma of the forest blended with sweat and a strong spice of some sort. There was really no way to describe the man's smell other then that it was his. Her father was her world and more. He had told her that her mother had died shortly after giving birth to her, a fact that saddened the tiny girl. So, only having the young man around had instantly set up an unbreakable bond between them. She would do anything the man asked of her. The man continued his pace as he began to hum softly to his daughter. It was something he did every night to help the girl sleep. His deep, rough voice was soothing to her ears and she found herself snuggling into the man's chest. Her own voice escaped her to blend with his as her eyes drooped.
" From the sky, we shall run. Guided by the brilliant lights, we go, forever north and forever west. Singing forests line our path and into darkness our feet must go. Do not cry for our scattered souls, for we are not alone. Eternally the Rain shall fall, sealing the earth in harmony." Miame sang, soft smiles crossing their weary faces. " So we raise our voice to the flaming sky, to the soothing earth, and to the tranquil sea. Twilight come fall over me."
~`~
It had been a month since they had last fled the sky and the Father and daughter had settled once again into a new village. This time, they occupied a small hut that sat about a twenty minute walk from the actually village, giving them a good deal of privacy. Besides, how often did one stumble across a golden haired ningen and a child who caused strange things to happen? Not to mention that her father could not speak in a normal way. It was just easier this way. The village elder had been very generous toward them when the girl had explained their situation, giving the mute and his daughter a cozy little home and plenty of supplies in exchange for her father's services. He was a very skilled swordsman, and well known as far as reputations go. Having the protection of such a man was very beneficial to a poorly fortified village with a population of less then one hundred. This was also a very unique village to say the least. Not only did it act as a home for Ningen, it also was a sanctuary for hanyou, and it was even inhabited by a few youkai. Of course most were lowly ranked demons, but still, such a place was very rare and often unheard of. It was perfect for the duo to reside in. Miame had taken an instant liking to the quaint little place. It was well hidden, nestled neatly between three large mountains and practically invisible within the depths of a massive forest. Most of the homes were located in the branches of trees and interconnected by swinging bridges. Fire was a very tightly regulated thing in the village, for smoke could very easily give away it's location.
The fact that the duo had found this place was a sheer act of some deity in itself. The raven haired girl had been the first to see it, noting the carefully hidden huts in the trees. Of course thier arrival had not been well met at first. In fact it wasn't a moment after she had spoken to her father that several well armed beings dropped from above. This of course had put her father on edge and though he did not draw his sword, the man was ready to defend his daughter to the death. It had taken a good deal of talking on Miame's part to convince the villagers that they had no intention of causing harm. Even now after these four weeks, the village's inhabitants were wary of the two. But, they did show them a great deal of kindness.
A delighted giggle escaped Miame's lips as she ran through the underbrush, her fingers intertwined with another child's. This child was a male with one of the oddest hair colors the girl had ever seen. It was the shade of the sea just at sunset. Deep teal-blue with strands of green here and there. It had been cropped off even with the child's jaw, free of any bangs. His skin was nearly the color of marble with a faint tint of blue to it that made him seem unearthly. And if one looked closely enough, one would notice a scale like pattern that was very faint on his flawless skin. His eyes were bright emerald and slitted as a cat's would be. Needless to say, he was a beautiful child. His bare feet were nearly silent as he pulled the human girl along, a pleasant smile on his face. They moved quickly through the forest as the foliage flew by them.
" AH HAH!" Came a loud and triumphant call from above as a small figure dropped down in front of them. The blue haired male stopped suddenly, causing Miame to crash into his back with a light 'oof!'. The newcomer was a hanyou, a kitsune hanyou to be exact. He was shorter then the other boy, with vibrant red hair that stood out wildly about his head. A pair of large fox ears twitched atop his skull as his chestnut colored eyes locked on them. " You guys are sooo gunna be out!!" He cried, earning a smirk from the blue haired demon who cast a playful glance back at Miame. She blushed faintly under his gaze and giggled in response. It was a silent language of sorts that he was using and for some reason, the human girl could easily understand him. Perhaps it came from years of living with her father. The gray eyed girl held tightly to the older child's arm as the kit began striding forward purposefully. With a soft grunt and barely any movement at all, the blue haired demon was in the air, taking a squealing Miame with him. A fairly large pair of wings unfolded from his spine and extended to thier full length of six feet in order to carry them higher.
" HEEEEYY!!! NO FAIR!!! CHEATERS!!!" Came a wail from below as the hanyou followed on the ground, his white plume tail thrashing angrily. The youkai child landed in the branches of a large tree, pulling the smaller child close to keep her from falling. It would have been terrible if she had fallen. He was nearly four years older then the human, and he stood easily a foot taller, so to say that the six year old looked up to him was an understatement.
Well now what, Mia-chan?
It was his name for her. She had to admit that she liked the nickname. The black haired girl smiled up at him warmly before she returned her attention to the forest floor. Her gray eyes spotted movement below, no doubt the kit or one of the others. They were playing a very complex version of tag that consisted of two teams. The hunters and the prey. Needless to say that at the moment, Miame and her youkai companion were on the prey team. "He will notice us soon, Sho-kun.” She whispered. Her own nickname for the youkai. His real name was Shoulen, a fairly rare type of dragon, or rather dragoon. Though he had no human blood in him, he often looked human in his natural state. But, he also had a very different appearance that the girl had seen only a few times.
I could transform and get us airborne.
"I will weigh you down though, remember?" She replied. Oh yes, they had tried flying together before. It had worked for an entire thirty seconds before gravity kicked in and caused them to plummet to the ground. Sho was, after all, still working out the kinks in his flying abilities.
"SHOULEN, WARREN, FAYLA! TIME TO EAT!!" Came the loud bellow that belonged to only one man. Sho's father. Disappointment worked through the raven haired girl and she pouted cutely in response. " Aww...that is sooo not fair!" She whined. Sho smiled down at her and poked her side. " Your Otou-san will be looking for you too." He replied before lumping from the tree and spreading his wings. The duo glided toward the ground as several other children made thier way from various other hiding places to meet them. Sho was, after all, thier leader. Being the eldest of the younger children was a plus he supposed. They landed on a small dirt path that wound it's way toward the village, the others gathering around them. " It figures!" Came a loud female who had her arms crossed firmly over her chest. "They ALWAYS do this when we has a game goin." Another motioned, earning grunts and nods of agreement from the group.
" Oh! Shoulen-sama, tonight is the star show." A male human chimed with an excited grin. Cheers broke out among the group instantaneously. " Alright. Remember, meet at the grove right after bedtime. Make sure that you aren't seen and bring a weapon just in case." Shoulen replied. The others saluted him with a firm fist over thier
hearts before the group scattered, leaving onto a confused Miame with the dragoon. "Star show?" She asked curiously. " You'll see Mia-chan. I'll meet you at your hut later tonight and we'll go together, alright?" He asked warmly. The six year old beamed up at him fondly, a faint pink tinting her cheeks. He gave her hand a firm squeeze before releasing her and trotting off toward the village. Miame watched as he vanished into the trees, unable to keep the smile from her face. She liked Sho. Of course she didn't like like him, but, she did like him. Or, at least she didn't think she like liked him. Before she could become to engrossed in that train of thought the girl turned and ran the opposite way, heading toward the secluded hut that was hidden away from the village.
----
It was that same night three years later, and Miame had just bid her father good night. The candles were doused and a quite peace settled over the hut. In the three years they had spent with the village, the duo had become accepted, and even cherished members of the community. In fact, her father was now considered Head of the village's defense. Miame had grown in those years as had all of the children, and soon she would be turning ten years old. It was hard to believe that they had stayed here for so long. But, the girl was not complaining. She loved the village and all of her friends. Especially Sho. It had taken her a long time, but the girl had finally accepted that she did like like the older boy who was now fourteen. However, she was still too frightened to tell him. Excitement worked through her at the thought of the Star Show. It was a night that only came once a year. On this night, the group would gather together at the grove before heading to the northern mountain where they would sit and watch the stars fall across the sky. It was also on this night that they made wishes and prayers. Miame's had come true every year so far, except for one wish that she had made last year. Perhaps this year it would? A soft tapping on her window signaled the arrival of her best friend and with a wide smile, the girl climbed from her bed and adjusted the obi that fastened around her waist. She wanted to look extra special tonight. Miame had dressed in the only pretty dress she owned, a silk white kimono with violet and silver butterflies covering it. Her long hair had been tied back in a neat bun with a single silver butterfly comb holding it in place. It was her mothers at one point, and the girl cherished it. She moved silently to the window and pulled aside the wooden screen, revealing an equally well dressed Sho. She had never seen him in anything other then his usual play clothes and to see him like this sent a deep blush across her face.
He smiled widely at her and held out his hand from his perch on the window sill, his much larger wings open behind him. The teen was clothed in a dark blue haori with teal and white symbols of his clan etched into the silken fabric. A pair of white hakama clothed his bottom half and if one looked at the male's back, the one would notice that most of the fabric had been neatly cut so that it allowed room for his large wings that now had a nearly thirteen foot span. The white wings gleamed faintly in the light of the moon, casting her idol in an angelic light.
Ready?
The girl nodded shyly and placed her hand in his. He lifted her effortlessly out of the hut and kicked off of the sill, spreading his wings wide to catch an air current. The dragoon's arms encircled her, holding her in a bridal fashion as he gained altitude and veered away from the girl's home.
You look very pretty, Mia-chan.
This earned a deep blush from the human before she gave him a brilliant smile. " You are much prettier, Sho-kun." Miame giggled, and was surprised to see his cheeks darken. She had NEVER see the boy blush. It did not take long for the grove to come into sight. It was actually a very tight collection of pines that formed the perfect clubhouse for the group. They landed nearby, bare feet silent on the ground. "Oi. We are here." Sho called softly, and seven others emerged from the trees.
"Alright, lets go!" A loud girl chimed, latching onto Sho's other arm. It took a great deal of effort on Miame's part to keep from showing her jealousy toward the youkai girl. However, the slight squeeze of the dragoon's hand that was still locked with her's reassured her and chased away the green eyed monster for the moment. "
Remember...we must be silent from here until the spot." He reminded the others, before turning and striding off toward the waiting mountain. The group filled out into formation, Shoulen at the head, Miame beside him, Ai-a very loud, very flirtatious, cat demon- on his right, Sho's brother and sister behind them, and the kit and a human male in the rear. With more desecration then imaginable, the blue haired male removed the neko youkai from his arm. " I need to keep my strong arm free in case of trouble, Ai." He murmured, nearly inaudibly. The cat, of course, was NOT amused. Miame had caught the lie easily, knowing for a fact that Sho was indeed, left handed. She also knew that the teen hated to be touched unless he was the one initiating it. Or if the person doing the touching was Miame. For some reason, the dragon was highly protective of the girl and had easily opened up to her. Of course, that could be attributed to the fact that the girl was only nine and the youngest of the group. At least, that is how the others thought of it.
After a long walk in complete silence they reached the mountain, the terrain turning rocky and the trees thinning out slightly. The group picked up thier pace, unable to surpress thier excitement. Finally they reached a large flat rock that jutted out slightly from the side of the mountain a forth of the way up. " Alright everyone, good work." Sho commented, earning relieved sighs from everyone. They all situated themselves on the rock, leaning back to stare up at the shooting stars.
Miame?
The human was startled by the boy's use of her full name and her attention snapped up to him.
I...There is something that I've been wanting to ask you.
Miame gave him a questioning look and his emerald eyes slid to her face. The male looked more nervous now then she had ever seen him.
Um...Do you...Like like me?
Her eyes went wide in surprise and a pretty blush coated her face. Was she that easy to read? " H-hai..." She mumbled barely above a whisper as she stared down at the ground as though it were the most amazing thing in the world. Miame was startled when she felt his arm snake around her shoulders, pulling her against his side and succeeding in making her blush darker. Her gray eyes looked up at him in shock and he smiled down at her affectionately. " Good. Because, I like like you too..." He whispered. She could not fight off the smile that forced it's way onto her lips at his admission and found herself thanking every deity she knew of for this moment. And that was when she heard it. So faint and so far off that it was barely noticeable. The call. As the dragoon moved her into his lap to give her more comfort, the girl's eyes turned toward the south, fear evident on her face. No. Oh no no no! Tears began to gather in her eyes and she buried her face in the boy's haori.
" Mia-chan, what's wrong?" He asked, concerned by the scent of salt water. The others had also detected the scent and were now huddling around them to see what was wrong. "Gomen ne...Gomen ne..." She whimpered, earning a confused look from the blue haired boy. "I...I have to leave here."
" Leave? Are you sick?" He asked, rubbing her back gently. Miame bit her lip to the point of drawing blood as she pulled back from him. " No...I mean...leave the village..."She said finally as tears streamed down her face. "What? Why? Is it me?!" Shoulen yelped in surprise. The human shook her head and hiccupped softly as her eyes flitted once again to the south. "It's the sky...it's calling for me again..." Miame whimpered sadly. She had told Sho about the sky and her constant flight from it. "You can hear it?" He asked, his eyes also turning south. The girl nodded slightly and let out a soft sob. "I don't want to leave you!" She wailed, hugging the dragon tightly. The teen returned her hug possessively, rocking the girl slowly. " You have to?" He asked. " Y-yes." She whispered. "If I don't...they will take me away...and ChiChi will be alone..."
They started back almost immediately, the group still immensely confused, but sensing that this was nothing to play about. Halfway home, they ran into the blonde man, his worried gaze reaching his daughter. "Chichiii..." She whined softly. The man opened his arms to her and without hesitation, the girl ran to him, hugging her father tightly. "Why?"
I know, Little Dove. We must go now…
" I know...will we...ever come back?" She asked sadly as she looked up at him.
I don't know, Miame...I wish I did know...but, I don't.
The raven haired girl turned to the group and strode to each of them, hugging each tightly. When she finally reached Sho, she was crying again. Her arms went around his neck as he lifted her off of her feet, his wings moving to hold her closer as if he could shield her from the call. " I will miss you so much Sho-kun..." Miame whispered as he breathed in her scent deeply. "I will miss you too, Mia-chan...please...come back to me one day..." He murmured to her. "I promise I will." She replied, placing a small kiss on the boy's cheek. Reluctantly, the dragoon sat her on her feet and the girl gave them all one final longing look before trotting to catch up with her father. They walked for hours it seemed, this time, farther west. Past the mountains and into a wide plain that stretched onward into the distance.
A cold chill ran down her spine and the girl turned to look over her shoulder.
Don't look Miame...We are being followed…
The girl looked up at her father in alarm, but tired her best to hide it. Fear jolted through her small form and her hold on her father's hand tightened.
Keep walking. When I tell you, I want you to run. Don't stop running until you are out of breath. Then I want you to hide. Hide somewhere good. If I do not find you, then I want you to wait until morning, and then head to the north again. Keep moving north until you reach a large city that is surrounded by red walls. A man and woman named Higurashi will be waiting for you there.
Miame's throat ran dry, but she nodded regardless. He squeezed her hand lightly and with his free hand, reached into his haori, pulling out a small round object.
I love you Miame…
And without a sound he threw the ball at the ground. It exploded into a mass of white and black smoke that concealed them both, spreading outward.
RUN!
Miame did as ordered and sprinted forward, moving as fast as her legs could carry her. The girl aimed for the tree line as the sound of her father's katana announced it's presence in the air. She turned her head to look back, hoping to see who thier attackers were, however, her foot caught on a stray log and sent her crashing to the ground. Pain lanced through her leg and the small girl curled up against the log, tear threatening to fall from her eyes. Yells from the direction of her father caught her attention and she peered over the log at the battle that was underway. He father faced ten others. She could not make out thier features, yet from the way they moved, she knew that they were not human. Her father was invincible. No stupid people could harm him though. As she watched, the black forms flew passed the man, earning a shout of pain from him each time. Blood poured from the wounds they left behind, seeping through his clothing and staining the grass beneath him. Flesh gave way beneath the attacks, all aimed at the most venerable places. Miame watched in horror as her beautiful father fell to his knees, resisting the need to call out and stop them from hurting him. And then a single dark figure stepped in front of the man, holding a strange blade. It was curved in an odd angle, looking similar to a boomerang with a hilt.
Miame covered her mouth with her hands to keep herself from screaming as the man ran the blade over her father's beautiful face slowly. "Where is the Rain Child?" The figure asked softly, the girl barely able to make out what he was saying. The blonde said nothing in response, but a small smile curved his lips and he looked up at the figure. A chuckle escaped him and for the first time since her birth, Miame heard her father's true voice. "I cannot tell you that...However...I will tell you this...I shall see you in hell for daring to take away my daughter. " The man stated with a smirk. His voice was deep and cracked from unused, but to the child, it was perfect. In an instant he was moving, katana draw, it black blade announcing it's entrance with it's musical ringing. The tawny haired man looked feral. His body was battered, torn, and coated in blood. However, he looked more alive then ever.
If the child hadn't known any better, she would have thought him to be a demon. He moved faster then she could follow and with a cry of anger and disbelief, the man whom had cut his face had been sliced neatly in half. Her father then whirled on the other two with hell blazing in his gray eyes. He moved fluidly despite his multiple injuries, moving in that deadly dance that filled his very soul with it's music. Within the space of a mere ten minutes, he had dispatched everyone of the enemies that had attacked. Miame smiled adoringly at her father's figure that stood amidst the blood soaked field like an angel of death. No one could kill her ChiChi. He was invincible. The raven haired child ran headlong toward him, arms outstretched to hug her beloved father. He hit the ground before she reached him. Wearily he looked up at her, reaching up with a trembling hand to touch his daughter one last time.
" Miame..." Was the breathless whisper that escaped his lips before the light left his eyes and he slumped lifelessly to the ground. She stood stock still, uncomprehending. No...he had won! He- "ChiChi..." She whimpered, falling to her knees at his side and burying her face in his chest. Miame was not stupid. She had seen death many times in her short life. However, unlike the many people that she had seen weeping for thier lost loves and families, the ashen faced girl could not cry. No tears would come. It felt as if someone had reached through her body and yanked out her untainted soul. And now as she looked upon her father's pale, cold, corpse, the girl knew that she would never be restored. A yawning chasm now lay within her. Lay where her soul had once been. The girl knew what had to be done and without a word she rose to her feet. Her tiny hands clawed at the ground furiously, grunts escaping her tightly pressed lips as she dug. Father. That word remained in her mind, pushing her to dig and dig faster. Sweat ran down her brow as the sun began to lighten the sky to the east. Soft whimpers and grunts escaped her dry throat, but still, the little girl continued to dig. When she finally finished the grave her frail hands were bleeding and coated in mud, fingernails chipped and pain pulsing in her fingertips. But, none of it mattered. She panted heavily and looked down at her father's cold corpse. Slowly she removed the sheath of his katana, setting it gently beside her. Miame bit her lower lip as she stood, taking her fathers hand and pulling with all of her strength. The body moved a few inched as she tugged. She was forced to rest, feeling exhaustion creeping up on her. The cycle repeated for several long minutes. Tug, tug, tug, rest. Tug, tug, tug, rest.
After an eternity the man was situated within the shallow grave. Gently and carefully she crossed his hands over his chest before shutting his eyes. The girl stared down at her father, looking devoid of life herself.
"I love you Daddy..."She whispered as she placed a small kiss on his cheek. And finally, as the girl pulled back to look down at the man, a lone tear escaped her, falling down to the silent earth...
