  • Cinderella Runt

    Once upon a time... there was a young boy who loved his parents very much. One morning his mother fell ill, she did not leave her bed, nor did she eat. The boy worried about his mother and although he was small, he stayed by her side to care for her. The days passed as the woman grew weaker, when she felt her end draw near, she asked her son to climb up the bed to her and said,

    "My son, be good and virtuous, and The Gods will take care of you. And I will watch over you from (1)Hebun, and will be with you."

    As she closed her eyes her spirit abandoned the world of the living, and her son wept for her. The boy went every day to the town shrine as well as his mother's grave. Everyday he would pray to The Gods and weep for the loss of his mother, and was always virtuous and good. A year passed and the seasons came and went, and as the winter snow melted from his mother's grave, his father took another wife.

    This woman brought with her two sons. And though they were both handsome in appearance, they each had a heart of cold black ice. That brought a time of darkness for the poor young boy.

    The young boy's name was Shippo, but not even his father called him such, from now on he was runt or Cinderella. His stepbrothers (Inuyasha and Kouga) had taken his room, and he now slept in the kitchen among the cinders. It was there he stayed and worked from morning to night, rise early, draw water, make the fires, cook and clean. His stepmother cast an illusion charm on him, so he would suffer his chores as a (2)ningen would, buthe could sill use his FOX-FIRE,which he used to aid him when he could.

    Years passed and the boy grew into a beautiful (18 year old) young man, though he was sill small he truly was beautiful. 5 foot 7, with long red hair,bright green eyes soft pale skin, and full pink lips. Though none of those things compare to the beauty in his heart and soul.

    One day his father had to leave on business, and asked his stepsons what he should bring back for them. "Fine leather boots!" said Kouga. "A sword and a jewled necklace!" said Inuyasha. "But what would you have Cinderella?" said the father. "The first twig to touch your head on the journey home; that is what I'd like you to bring me."

    And so he bought his stepsons fine leather boots, sword and jewled necklace, on his return home, as he walked the beaten path, a (3)Sakura twig brushed against his hair; and he broke it off to take home. When he arrived at his home he gave his stepsons what they wished for, and to Cinderella he gave the Sakura twig. Thanking his father, he went to his mother's grave to plant the twig there, he wept and his tears fell watering the twig, it flourished and became a beautiful tree. Cinderella went to see it daily where he wept and prayed, and each time a hidden man would watch him, and if he spoke a wish the man would send to him (4)hato with whatever he had wished for.

    There came a time that the great Prince Sesshomaru must find a mate, he had adopted a young girl, who was in need of a mother. Yet the Prince wanted love, not someone that wanted money and a title. "Father Seshomaru! Why not hold a Ball, and together we can pick my new mother?" asked his daughter. "You are quite wise Princess Rin, I believe that is the perfect solution!" said the Prince as he gave her a gentle smile. The Ball was to be held in one months time, and was to last for three nights, in witch all unwed men and women, ningen as well as (5)youkai were to attend.

    With this known Lady Kagome took her two sons to town, to get the best clothing and jewlery money to buy, bringing Cinderella to carry their boxes and bags. "Hurry it up Cinderella I haven't got all day, you lazy child!" his stepmother yelled. "Yes stepmother, sorry stepmother!" said Cinderella as he lowered his eyes. Which was quickly followed by a resounding slap. "You will not call me that in public, you little runt! I don't want people to think you are a part of my family." Cinderella knew she held nothing but hatered for him, and still he was good and said, "Yes Lady Kagome, it won't happen again."

    When they returned home Cinderella wept, for he also wanted to go to the dance, and so he begged his stepmother to allow it. "What! You Cinderella, in all your filth!" she said, "You want to go to the festival? You have only rags, no fine clothes or shoes! You can not go to the dance!"

    But he continued to ask, and at last his stepmother said, "If you can complete your chores, and any task I give you, then you may go with us." Cinderella finished all his chores by the months end, and helped his stepbrothers dress for the Ball, finely with one hour left till the festival began, his stepmother gave him one last task and said, "I have strewn two dishes full of lentils into the ash, and if you can pick them out, nice and clean, you shall go with us," thinking to herself, 'for that is not possible.'

    The boy went to the back-door then into the garden, and called out,

    O gentle hato, O beautiful hato,
    And all the the birds that be,
    The lentils in the ashes lie,
    Come pick them out for me!

    The good must be put in a dish,
    The bad you may eat if you wish.

    And so there came to the window two hato, and all the other birds from under Hebun, fluttering and chirping among the ash, the hato nodded then began to pick, peck, pick, peck, and all the others began to pick, peck, pick, peck, putting all good lentils in the dish. Before the hour was over they were done, and flew away. He brought the dish to his stepmother, while smiling, thinking he would attend the Ball; but she said, "You did well, yet it's done you no good, you can not come with us, you have no fine clothes, and can not dance; you would put us all to shame." Then without any other words, she turned her back on Cinderella and made haste with her two proud sons.

    With no one left in the house, Cinderella went to his mothers grave, beneath the Sakura tree, and cried.

    The two hato that sat in the tree soon took flight, and the man came out from the shadows. He was tall, with dark hair, wearing robes of black and purple, beads around his right hand; carrying with him a golden staff. He stood there watching over the crying boy and said, "Do not cry young one, for all is well, you will go to the Ball." Then Cinderella looked up with tears in his eyes. "Who are you, and what do you mean?" he sad, "Me? Why I'm your fairy godfather. And yes, you will go, weather your stepmother permits it or not!" With that said, Cinderella's fairy godfather waved his staff, and a Kimono of silver and gold, and a pair of slippers made of silk with silver beads, appeared on the ground before him.

    He quickly dressed and went to the festival. But his stepmother and brothers never looked twice at him, and thought he was a prince from a foreign land, he looked so beautiful in his golden Kimono. They never thought of Cinderella, and supposed he sat at home, picking lentils out of the ash. Prince Sesshomau came to meet him, taking Cinderella by the hand and they danced, and refused to stnd with anyone else, so he might not let go of said hand; and if anyone came to claim it he'd say, "He is my partner."

    When evening came and he wished to go home, the Prince said, "Allow me to accompany you, I would like to see your home and meet your family!" But Cinderella escaped him, and he jumped into the egret-house. The Prince waited until the father came, and told him the boy had jumped into the egret-house. And the father thought to himself, 'That can not be Cinderella,' and called for the axes, and had the egret-house chopped down, but there was no one in it. When the family entered their home there was Cinderella in his dirty clothes sleeping among the cinders, and a little oil-lamp burning dimly nearby; for Cinderella was quick, and jumped from the egret-house, and ran to the Sakura tree; there he removed his Kimono and left it on the grave, and the hato carried it away, then he put on his rags again, and lay down in the kitchen among the cinders.

    On the next day the festival began anew, when the parents and stepbrothers had left for it, Cinderella went back to the Sakura tree, where he found his fairy godfather.

    Once again his fairy godfather waved his staff, and a Kimono appeared, more beautiful then the one before. When he arrived wearing it every guest was amazed by his beauty. The Prince had been waiting for him to come, and took his hand and danced with him and him alone. And when anyone else came to him he said, "He is my partner."

    When the evening came and he wish to go home, Prince Sesshomaru followed him, for he wanted to know which house he belonged; but Cinderella broke away, and ran to the garden at the back of the house. There stood a large Pear tree; he leapt as lightly as a squirrel through the branches, and the Prince did not know where he'd gone. So he waited for the father to come, and told him that the boy ran from him, and he thought he'd gone up the Pear tree. And the father thought to himself, 'That can not be Cinderella,' and called for an ax, and the tree fell, but there was no one in it. When the family entered the kitchen there lay Cinderella as usual, among the cinders, for he made it down the other side of the tree, and took the beautiful clothes back to the hato on the Sakura tree, and wore again his old rags.

    On the third day, when the parents and stepchildren left, Cinderella went in search of his fairy godfather, who magicly created a Kimono the likes of which he'd never seen before. The Kimono was made of silk that shone like moon light, and had a golden fox with geen eyes embroidered near the base, along with a pair of slippers made of gold.

    As he appeared in his Kimono, the entire hall was rendered speechless by his beauty. That night Cinderella met with Princess Rin, and if anyone asked for him the Princess answered, "He is my partner." And the two danced and played late into the night, as the Prince watched, knowing he'd found his future mate.

    When the evening came and he wished to go home, the Prince was about to come with him, when he ran past Prince Sesshomaru so quickly he could not follow. But a plan had been made, and he had all the steps spread with pitch, so when Cinderella rushed down them his left shoe was left behind. The Prince picked it up and took notice that it was gold, as well as small and slender.

    The next day he went to his daughter and said, "None will be my bride, save the one whose foot fits this shoe of gold." The Prince and his loyal servant (Jaken) went in search of his soon to be mate.

    And the two bothers were very pleased, for they both had pretty feet. Kouga went to his room to try the shoe on, with his mother by his side. But could not get his great toe to fit, for the shoe was too narrow; his mother then gave him a knife and said, "Just cut the damn toe off, for when you are a royal you will never have to go on foot again." So he did as he was told, cut off the toe, squeezed into the shoe, hid the pain, then went down to the Prince. Then he left with him on the Princes horse, and rode off. As two hato on the Sakura tree cried'

    There they go, there they go!
    There is blood on the shoe;
    The shoe is too small,
    -Not the right bride at all!"

    It was then the Prince looked down at the shoe, and saw the blood. With a low growl, he turned horse around and took his false (bride) Mate home, saying that the other brother must try the shoe on. So Inuyasha went to his room to do just that, and got in his toes compfortably, but his heel was too large. then his mother gave him the knife saying, "By The Gods! Cut off a piece of heel; and when you are a royal you will never have to g on foot again."

    So the boy did as he was told, and cut off a piece of heel, and thrust it into the shoe, hid his pain, and went to the Prince, who took his bride onto his horse and rode off. Passing the Sakura tree the two hato sat and cried,

    There thy go, there they go!
    There is blood on the shoe;
    The shoe is too small,
    -Not the right shoe at all!"

    It was then the Prince glanced down at the foot, and saw all the blood flowing from the shoe, and how it stained the once white (6)sutkkingu. Loosing all patience, he turned his horse around and took his false (bide) mate home again. "Do not take me for a fool, this is not the right one," he said as he growled low in his chest, "have you no other children, no other sons?"

    "No," said the man, "only my late wife left behind her little runt Cinderella; it is not possible thet he is the mate you search for." But Prince Sesshomaru ordered for him to be sent, and the mother cried out, "Oh no! He... he is far too filthy and dirty, I will not let him be seen." But the Prince insisted he be fetched, and so Cinderella had to appear.

    The poor boy was afraid of what was to come, but he washed his hands and face, then went in and gave a timid bow to the Prince who held in his hand the golden shoe. As he sat on a stool, he lifted his small bare foot, and placed it in the gold slipper, which fit perfectly. And when Cinderella stood, the Prince saw his face, and knew this was the beautiful boy he had danced with, and so he cried, "This, this is the right bride!"

    The stepmother was outraged, and lashed out with the knife she still held. The Prince saw this and attacked with his poisoned claws, Lady Kagome fell to the floor dead; leaving the house he put Cinderella on his horse before him and rode off. And as they rode by the Sakura tree, the hato cried,

    "There they go, there they go!
    No blood on the shoe;
    The shoe's not too small He is the right bride after all."

    And so they came flying to Cinderella and perched on his shoulders, one on the right, and the other on his left, and so they remained.

    The Prince arrested the cruel family, but allowed them to attend the wedding. And so as the bridal procession went into the church, Kouga walked on the left and Inuyasha on the right, and the hato pecked out an eye from both of them. As they turned around Inuyasha was on the left, and Kouga on the right, and the hato pecked the other eye from both. And so the two brothers were to be blind the rest of their days, because of their wickedness and lies.

    And the fairy godfather watches from the shadows amused by what he sees, and leaves his hato behind as a wedding gift.

    Shortly after the wedding the Prince was made King, and Shippo returned to his true form (a Kitsune). And together Kings Sesshomaru and Shippo as well as Princess Rin, lived hppily ever after.

    The End!!!
