Inuyasha sulked through the dim forest, lost in his thoughts. The trees could not give him the comfort they used too. Before, he could leap from tree to tree feeling free. Free from hurt, pain and the all too familiar loneliness. However, tonight he was sad and the trees seemed to sag with the weight of his sorrow, not even the breeze seemed to move the heavy branches of sorrow that clung to him. Now he was lost. Everything seemed unfamiliar to him even the well that he happened upon.

�That is her portal, to her time away from me and all the hurt I bestow upon her,� Inuyasha thought as a lump formed in his throat. He could not believe she was gone. She left him swearing never to return. Even though Miroku and Sango tried to comfort him, there was no comfort that would lift his heart. He could not talk to them without seeing Kagome. After all she was the reason they were all together. They were all after their formidable foe Naraku, and once he was defeated, Inuyasha was going to become a full demon-no matter the consequences. �That�s why she was so mad. She did not want me to become a full demon. She wanted me to stay as I was and be with her. However, that was something I was not willing to do. I have never wanted anything more in my life than to be full blooded. All I wanted was to be accepted for what I was.� Inuyasha thought sitting on the lip of the well. He had thought about chasing after her but decided that would cause more harm than good. Therefore, he sat there thinking of the past.

He knew he could never forget the beautiful woman that woke him, the woman that was by his side through all their journeys and never really questioned his motives. �She accepted me for me. Why do I always have to ruin the good things that come in my life? I know my heart yearns for her but my stubborn side will not let me give in. I know what I must do but to do that you have to have courage, and I am nothing but a coward. I can�t even put aside something that will cause nothing but pain to be with the woman I love. Why couldn�t I see that before?� Inuyasha berated himself until he could no longer hold his eyes open. However, sleep is the last thing he wanted without her here to protect; he no longer cared about his needs. Finally giving in to the sleep that invaded him, Inuyasha headed back to his friends and fell into a troubled sleep.

Inuyasha woke the next morning to find concerned eyes boring through his very being. He knew they were worried about him, they have never seen him so despondent. The once headstrong hanyou had become a hopeless coward. He could also see in their eyes disappointment, they wanted Kagome to stay here with them. Every time they thought she was happy with them Inuyasha always did something stupid to screw it up.

�What do they want from me?� Inuyasha thought knowing what they wanted.

�Look guys I know you miss her, hell I miss her but she made it painfully clear she was done with me. If I were to go after her it would only end in more heartache,� Inuyasha mused he wanted her back more than they could ever know.

�Inuyasha I think you are wrong. Kagome loves you and would do anything to be near you again. I could almost guarantee she feels the same way you do,� Miroku said trying to get through to the dejected hanyou.

�Inuyasha I bet she is sitting by the well hoping praying you will come for her like you did so many times in the past. Go to her Inuyasha tell her how you feel,� Sango demanded.

�I can�t,� Inuyasha sighed.

�Why can�t you? I know you have a hard time apologizing but I believe if you went to her she would accept you-forgive you,� Miroku said standing up, �We are heading to Kaede�s village, so you will have little bit of a walk to think things over Inuyasha, and I trust you will do the right thing.�

Following his comrades lead he walked behind the now incomplete group. He could not raise his head so he stared at the ground as they made their way to the well-known village. Trying to process everything Sango and Miroku told him he was lost in thought. finally clearing his mind Inuyasha realized they had stopped walking when they reached the well.

�Inuyasha it is now or never. You now know what you need to do I hope, so why not act on it before you lose confidence,� Miroku pressed as he and Sango left him there by the well.

�C�mon you know you can do this, you have so many times before,� Inuyasha reassured himself, �Ah who am I kidding? All she is going to do is yell at me and tell me to leave or worse�� Inuyasha closed his eyes not wanting to remember the little word she used to subjugate him.

Fighting back tears of sadness Inuyasha sat upon the well lip as he did the night before. He never knew this could be so hard. He kept telling himself love was overrated and all it does is set you up to be hurt. Nevertheless, he knew he had to try, she had to know how he really felt. That was it he was going through her time to confess everything to her.

Inuyasha never seen his friends watching from the brush, and even if he seen them he decided it was time to lay this to rest.

Climbing out of the well into her time, a time of strange contraptions and smells his heart skipped a beat before pounding so hard he thought it would leap from his chest. Once again, the coward in him took over and almost caused him to return to his time to live the rest of his days alone. Fighting the urge to run he pushed open the well house doors to walk among her time.

Mindlessly tapping her pencil on her desk, Kagome�s thoughts once again wandered to the past. �How could he? I begged him to stay a half demon, I even told him I loved him the way he was.� Kagome thought knowing Inuyasha was now a dream. She had hoped she would wake up this morning and it all be a dream, unfortunately that was not the case. She opened her eyes to the birds singing their wake up call, not really in the chipper mood she once was, Kagome idly got out of bed and headed to take a shower. She had to return to everyday tasks in order to get her mind off him, and she thought school was the best medicine. That however, proved to be just the opposite.

�Kagome? Kagome? Are you okay?� Eri asked her forlorn friend.

Kagome�s eyes cleared and she saw her friends Ayumi, Yuka and Eri watching her with worrisome eyes. �Um� yeah I�m fine,� Kagome responded still in her daze. She could not get him off her mind and school was helping, as she wanted it to.

Her friends were not convinced, they had known her since grade school and had never seen her so unhappy.
�C�mon Kagome you know you can talk to us,� Ayumi pressed she was the only one Kagome could really open up to. However, this time she could not-did not- want to talk about it. �They would never understand. I can�t exactly tell them the man I love is a hanyou, and that my love is not enough to keep him the way he is. No matter how much I beg he wants to be a full fledged demon,� Kagome let out a troubled sigh. She knew she could not hide this forever but for now, it was her secret.

When the bell rang, Kagome grabbed her backpack and ran out of the door to avoid any more questions from her friends. As she ran, Kagome could feel their eyes bore through her back. Finally, out of the class and far enough away from her friends Kagome stopped to catch her breath. �Damn you Inuyasha why do you do this to me?� Kagome thought heading to her locker. She was not going to be in this state of mind forever, but until she could get out of this rut, she had to avoid her friends.

After unloading her books, Kagome left the school to head home. Walking aimlessly down the street she could feel the pain welling up inside her again. The walk home seemed to take forever; the roads she walked so many times seemed to lead nowhere. It was as if they dead-end into heartache and loneliness. However, it was the sadness that enveloped her. Finally, reaching her destination Kagome started to ascend the stairs that led to the shrine.

Inuyasha could smell his beloved as she climbed the stairs, not ready to go to her Inuyasha jumped onto on to the Goshinboku branches and watched her appear. Gods she was beautiful, even with her russet eyes lost in thought and her perfect lips pursed with sadness. He wanted to hold her comfort her and tell her he loved her, but scared of rejection he stayed in the high branches watching her. Her toned legs gracefully carrying her petite frame away from the stairs, her raven hair blowing lightly in the breeze, he could not pull his eyes off her retreating form.

As the last light twinkled out, Inuyasha silently went to Kagome�s window. How he missed watching her sleep. Doing what he knew to do Inuyasha stayed at her window to protect her until he fell asleep.

Waking to the sun reaching over the horizon, Inuyasha glanced into her room and saw she was still sleeping. He thought about going in and being the first person she saw when she woke, but ultimately decided now was not the time, �I will talk to her when she comes home this afternoon,� Inuyasha thought perching back in the Goshinboku tree out of site.

As the day went by Inuyasha found himself pacing the shrine yards. Totally oblivious to the smell that blew by him in the gentle breeze.

�Why Inuyasha dear what are you doing here?� Momma Higurashi asked.

Inuyasha blushed. He did not expect to be seen by anyone until he talked to Kagome, �Uh� um�� Inuyasha stammered, he knew Kagome told them what had happened and he was actually surprised they were not angered by it, �I wanted to talk to Kagome.�

�I knew things would work out. You just have to follow your heart Inuyasha, and you will never grow stronger if you always run from your feelings.� Momma Higurashi mused.

For once, he took the advice someone gave him. He was going to follow his heart in this and nothing more, and his heart was yearning for Kagome. He watched Kagome�s mom walk into the house when he caught a familiar scent. �Shit she is here!� Inuyasha yelled inside,
�It�s now or never.�

Like yesterday, Kagome ascended the steps in a saddened trance, but this time Inuyasha did not run, he stayed at the head of the stairs waiting for her to notice him.

Kagome raised her head just to watch were she was going when she saw a familiar shape looming above her. �Now what does he want?� Kagome thought reaching the final step. She could see sadness in his eyes as she stopped to face him.

Kagome could feel her breath catch as she peered into Inuyasha�s eyes. For the first time she saw his love for her. However not to be the first to apologize Kagome just stared. She knew her features were rigid and downright cold but he deserved it. It was his fault she left and they had to do this now.

Inuyasha smiled a weak smile, he knew she was still mad but he had to hold her. Closing the gap between them, Inuyasha wrapped his arms around Kagome and held her tight to his chest. �Kagome please forgive me, I was wrong. Kagome could not speak; she was lost in his embrace. She had longed to hear his gruff voice in her ears, his muscular arms around her. �So did you two make up?� Souta asked.
Inuyasha just looked to his lap, he did not know how to answer Kagome�s inquisitive brother. He hoped she had everything planned.

As they ate dinner, Inuyasha avoided all the looks he was receiving from Kagome�s family. He knew her grandfather did not approve, however, he also knew he grandfather loved Kagome and just wanted her to be happy.

After dinner Kagome and Inuyasha retired to her room, they were exhausted from the weeks of torment they had to endure. Inuyasha lay on her bed with his back against the wall as Kagome curled up next to him. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close before they both drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

�Are you ready to go back,� Kagome asked.
