There will come a time, my firstborn, when my power and my lands will pass to you, when I will no longer reside on this earth, when I will guide you only in spirit and through the lessons of all I have labored to teach you. I show you leadership by example, and I teach you power by force. Your body and mind resist when I mount you, my one true son, but that is as it must be. Despite the way we battle in word and energy, the way you challenge and force me to dominate you as only I can, I would never have it otherwise. I know your seeming disrespect for what it truly is, my Sesshoumaru, my heir: the clash of two Alpha wills. I have lived long, am settled—even stubborn—in my ways. You have lived but a little, are uneasy—even troubled—in yours.
Above all, my heir, I wish that you understood your father. I have needs that you will no doubt someday experience for yourself. Your mother recognizes, even if you do not, that an Alpha youkai does no dishonor to his mate when he takes others. The human female who now carries my child expects no more of me than she has been given. And her babe will never mean to me what you do, what only you can. Our hanyou offspring will never be the perfect reflection of myself and your mother that you are, my precious, incomparable Sesshoumaru.
And yet, he will be your brother. Be wise, my firstborn, when I am gone, for he will be drawn to your energy in my stead.
For now, though, simply live and learn and grow, my son. Your father treasures your strength and your skill. And he knows without question that when you someday rule, he will look upon you from the beyond with pride.
