READ BEFORE SCROLLING DOWN TO THE STORY
A/N: So. I’ve toyed around with this concept for quite some time now. I’ve always wanted to do something close to “Cry of the Icemark” for the longest time and I figured InuYasha would be best to cross it with. Granted- this is not a crossover- its just a similar setting. This story will not flow exactly as “Cry of the Icemark” did…there will be many changes along the way so no flames for that please.
A/N: I am the type of writer that loses all motivation to keep writing. Often- I need my ASS KICKED to keep going. I am also the type of person who will speak bluntly and what I say in my author notes is final. I WILL NOT WARN YOU ABOUT LEMONS. I see no reason to spoil the surprise. There is adult content in this story. Get over it. If you find it offensive in any manner- you have been warned….which! By the way…brings me to my next point.
A/N again…..: CHILDREN should not be permitted to view this fic. In fact- they shouldn’t be on this site at all! Parents- watch what your children read. My sister at the age of 12 was viewing porn with my grandparents none the wiser. Monitor what your children read- or they’ll turn out to be the sick and twisted 19 year old I am.
Thank You for your kind understanding and patience.
Disclaimer: I do not and will not claim to own any of these characters in my story. All other characters other than the disclaimed are fictional and are not based on any real persons. Any somewhat representation that is offensive and/or proving to have a semblance of real life is purely coincidental. The views in this story are not necessarily the views of the author and I do not, nor have I ever, made money by writing this story.
Kagome Higurashi, Great black cat of the North, Daughter of the Lion of the North, and Princess heir apparent; gazed off into the soft snows flowing outside her window. The droning and chalk scrapes of her teacher forgotten as he explained the boring and often dry topic of politics and the less fascinating parts of history. Her warm grizzly- fur eyes were marking the exact trail she would tramp through on her horse later that afternoon. She wanted so desperately to be outside. It was not that she was a bad student- rather, she excelled at Mathematics, Much of History, and Geography. It was that her heart reside within her bow and sword. She did not take up needlepoint, as many ladies of her age would. She did not even bother with basic husbandry or other feminine things. Kagome was a hereditary leader of the north, a warrior of great stature and as her father did before her, she was to ride in war.
“Ladies affairs” did not mean anything to the Kings and Queens to the north. They were ice-hardened and storm ridden. The King and Queens primary job was to keep the army. With the rest of the world, Kings and Queens had other duties than defense, but in these Northern lands- many queens and kings were called to battle as young as 15 winters.
Her gentle mannered but oftentimes lecherous teacher turned his head and with a kitten-like smile called out to her, “Lady Kagome. We cannot move to the Frozen Tundra conflict if you do not pay attention.”
That caught her attention and the girl swept her blue-black tresses aside to stare at the self-proclaimed monk. Miroku turned his head back to the chalkboard and sighed, closing his eyes for a moment to contemplate where he wanted to continue. The lady Kagome was a fine student…when it came to battle tactics, geography, and stories of the great wars… She could not, however- handle any other fundamental activities not related to battle. Well…. Perhaps she could handle them. But with her upbringing and the influence of both her parents- she gladly steered away toward anything that required anything other than basic court manners. The woman started to drift again…. Miroku sighed and shrugged his shoulders in defeat. He pulled out a large map of the northern wastes and pinned it onto the observation table. Taking out a rather heavy box of little wooden figures, he turned to a grinning princess and said, “Come on. You teach ME now. Map the Last Battle of the Seven.” She gladly jumped up and started to chatter with him. It was Miroku’s turn to gaze out into the soft snowy expanse.
Later that evening, Kagome raced her two guards to the stables. She ran with the spring of a deer, her bows bouncing in their quiver. The soldiers did as best the could to keep up with her lithe steps but a waterproof sheepskin over the metal of their armor did little to help their agility. The stable boy had received word ahead of time that Kagome was riding today, and knowing that she would be bounding down the stairs, probably giving her guards a run for their lives, she would want to leap up on her horse as soon as possible. True to his thoughts, Kagome bound in the room and knowing that her precious Rei was saddled, jumped up on to his back. She waited with a broad smile on her face as her guards gave her a grin and went to their own mounts.
She went straight to the trail she memorized outside of the Miroku’s classroom window. She quietly trotted a straight even pattern into the snow, heading straight for the snow covered trees on the western branch of the castle. Her horse- battle trained and alert, listened for any potential danger. Her proud black stallion cantered in front of the line of trees waiting for the other two horses to line up with him- knowing that his rider needed company before she was permitted to dip through the trees.
It was not long before the group caught sight of large deer, doe apparently, with her ears perked and spotting for danger. Kagome silently pulled her bow from her shoulder, slowly and as quietly as she can- notching the arrow. The deer could have heard her, it moved in a panicked and jerky fashion. Just as the deer turned the side of it’s face toward the princess, Kagome let the arrow fly. Springing into action, Kagome’s arrow missed the dead center and hit the flank of the doe. Clearly in pain, the deer ran, with a slight limp into the woods. Kagome and her guards flew in pursuit, being careful to dodge around the trees. It was a matched chase. While the deer had to deal with a limp, a tree root or rock could easily injure the horses. Kagome spent years and years memorizing patterns in the fresh snow that marked a potential threat. She kept following her prey which left a fresh trail of prints and blood even though she could no longer see it. She enjoyed a slow hunt- gladly willing to wait until it tires.
The horses, too busy dodging rocks and roots, ran straight into a clearing. They didn’t see the danger till it was too late. Not far on the other side of the clearing. Their deer, they assumed, was tackled. Their was a blood smear and crushed snow from where a massive predator slammed down onto the doe’s back. The doe was then picked up and with a few steps, there were large- deep holes where the predator bound off, jumping great lengths across the snow. It didn’t take the wild kicking of their horses to tell what scent they picked up. Youkai. Dogs.
Kagome looked for any signs of the beast. They were close behind the doe so there was noway the demon could have retreated too far away. Her guards on either side yelled at her to get back, to immediately return to the castle- but she urged her horse forward, following the tracks just to the end of the clearing where the youkai went. She saw a mere second of the creature. She saw just a flash of silver hair before she stopped. Her guards screamed at her to stop and she finally obeyed. Immediately, she started to command them, “To my father! Immediately!”

A/N so. This was just a teaser. I find it to be a good opener and I’ll get more into detail as we move on.
