Disclaimer: I unfortunately do not own Inuyasha even thought I'd like to and well, I stay as penniless as before this story as I won't even a single penny out of this |
Right now I know where this story starts and how it'll end but I have no clue about what is going to happen inbetween...
Fading away „Mr. Fuyu, this would be the beach annexed to the hotel complex if it were to be build on the first site, whereas for the second site the beach would be on the opposite side of the cliff…” Sesshomaru didn’t really listen to the ramblings of the human real estate agent standing next to him on the dune while the wind blew the already grey clouds of early autumn from the sea onto the land that seemed to lose all colors at the approach of the winter, as if the sun had stolen all warmth as it had began to retreat for the south. The one once feared for his strength by all youkais alike was now venerated for his richness by the humans and as he looked at the scenery without touching its soul with his sharp gaze, he noticed the house on the cliff that drove an edge into the land he had bought for building another hotel. “… the western side is more guarded from the winds by the cliff but it misses on the view… Mister?” “There is a house on the cliff…” “Ah yes, we are terribly sorry but this part of the land has been purchased long ago and stayed in the possession of a family for now almost a hundred years. Although this family now consist of only one single young man, he didn’t want to sell it even after we offered thrice the price usually paid for such a piece of land.” “Any reasons…?” “He didn’t state any and even didn’t consent to a meeting with one of our agents. We are still trying but if you do not wish to delay the start of the construction any further, we’re afraid that the land you already bought will have to be enough for the start…” Something caught Sesshomaru’s attention more than the submissive tone of the smaller man next to him as he watched a lean figure step out on the veranda of the house in question. Following leisurely the path of stone or bridges of wood the man made his way down to the beach and once he was down on the wet sand, just stood there and watched the horizon and the tumultuous sky. He had long, black hair that whirled around him like a veil hiding him from the gaze of others but as he seemed to notice their presence far away as well, he turned his head around while a gush of wind carried his scent to Sesshomaru. Imperceptibly his pupils dilated as he took in the scent, a scent that carried the weight of centuries, of youkai blood and, more important than the fact that the owner of the desired land was also one of the youkais living among the humans and hiding their identities to them, a scent of an old relation he had never wanted to admit. For a moment the gaze of Sesshomaru and his younger half-brother Inuyasha met, locked but instead of any fighting, the younger just looked impassively back before diverting his attention again with the contemplation of his surroundings. “Mr. Fuyu, this is the owner of said cliff… shall I go down and speak to him? Maybe I can convince him to sell his land or at l-…” Sesshomaru just waved at him to shut him up. Without as much as look to the poor guy he said: “I’ll handle this myself… you can go now.” The former Lord of the Western Lands walked down the little path to the beach and leisurely walked on the sand as if it was as smooth as a marble floor over to the figure staring out into space. His hair, which he held black and short with a spell, tickled him on his forehead as the wind made it its plaything. It didn’t faze him but he wondered if the almost violently flapping hair of his brother didn’t disturb him. He could smell the faint trace of magic, proof that Inuyasha was just like him, using a spell or a talisman to cover his youkai part of his identity. When they were just a few steps apart, Sesshomaru stopped, his hands in the pockets of his high-class suit, and looked at his brother with the warmth of a glacier. Although he didn’t feel like starting the conversation with the lower being, he knew he was actually the one intruding and that their old feud could not be carried out in the same way as it used to. “Inuyasha.” The hanyou didn’t bother to turn around completely; he just turned his head and traced the hindering hair strands out of his sight. “Sesshomaru.” “Long time no see, hanyou. I guess it has been… four centuries?” “Probably…” Sesshomaru was slightly stumped about the hanyou’s immediate behavior. He had expected him to act angrily, be rash or even use his foul mouth but his half-brother’s voice just had an impassible, almost bored tone. So disinterested, that the hanyou even didn’t look at him but gaze again at the horizon. “Are you living up there?” “Yeah…” “Alone?” “That doesn’t concern you… but yes, alone.” They said nothing for a while, the wind and the waves filling the weighing silence. It was Inuyasha who started anew, his voice almost trailing off absentmindedly: “So you are the one who bought all the land around mine…” Sesshomaru didn’t deign to answer anything and just continued his contemplation of his younger half-brother. He didn’t seem as muscular and full of life as he used to and his face had lost all of the childish plumpness of 4 centuries ago, when they had seen each other for the last time, a short glance over a battlefield covered in corpses of humans and demons. Inuyasha had been under his command during the last Great War with the humans, a mercenary like all the others. Although they had won by far on the battlefield, a few years later the whole youkai had had to give in to the sheer numerical superiority of the human race, retreating farther and farther into mountains, secret dens, swap mazes, uninhabitable mountains or wherever they sought refuge. One after the other, they died and fewer children were born every year. Now only a small number of youkais lived in those modern times, either hiding in the last inaccessible places left in the crowded Japan or blending in with the humans. Without surprise, most of those with youkai blood who had survived were hanyous as they fitted more easily into society. However, most of the daiyoukais who had survived so far belonged to the richest of the richest in the world, using their power to keep their rule over the land. Sesshomaru himself was no exception to them. He had founded the Tsuki Company during the Mejin era and had brought it to the pole position in Japan’s market. He had instructed a policy to always only let the successor he chose to be the director of the company, meaning always him. He would have himself become director and claim to be around 25, rule the company until he was at the estimated age of 50, then leave and direct it from the shadows for ten more years and then come back as his own son, nephew or whatever he found to be plausible. Adding to that, he had a policy to only rarely show his face in public or have many pictures of himself taken. That and a bit of help from concealing spells did the trick just fine. “What are you planning to do with this land?” “A hotel complex.” “You shouldn’t, the land here is horrible for construction.” “How come?” “See my house up there? When I bought the land 90 years ago or so, a human had to walk 10 minutes until he would reach the cliff and now I can practically leap into the sea from my garden. Thank god I was lucky enough to have my house built on a part of sturdier rock in these cliffs. And this little piece of sand is by no means stable, it changes place with the sea and when there’s a storm, it’s completely covered by sea. Didn’t those who sold you the land tell you this?” “They didn’t. Do you have any proofs of what you just said?” “I’m sure you could find that in some official records but I have some pictures at home, from when I bought the land to today.” “Show me.” “Give me your address, I shall send some to you…” Sesshomaru wordlessly handed him over a business card. The hanyou didn’t as much as glance at it before he stuffed it into his pocket. They were silent for a bit more before Inuyasha asked: “And what are we going to do now?” His elder brother understood that he meant their old feud and how they were going to settle the life-long hostilities. “Could you… just leave me alone? If it’s Tessaiga you want, I can give it to you…” “As if I would accept Tessaiga as a mere present.” “Then do whatever you want… I don’t even care you want to do. You can kill me if you like… well, though, if you’re going to do that, wait for a month.” “Why would I wait for a month if I could take your head now?” “Aaah, my deadline is in a month and if I’m not done by then… you wouldn’t want to meet my editor. She’s scarier than you when enraged.” “Editor?” “I’m a writer…” “I didn’t know you have a single speck of talent for fine arts.” “Heh… maybe I don’t and the humans are just tasteless fools… I’m going back.” With these words and with a slightly bitter smile on his lips Inuyasha began to walk back to his house, stepping onto the old wooden passages without making a sound. The youkai looked at him and noticed that his younger brother did not move with the same vitality as he had used to. The steps that had once brimmed with life and rashness were now calm and almost careful. His whole body seemed to have lost in strength as his shoulders slumped lightly and his chest wasn’t held out high to challenge the whole world. But Sesshomaru didn’t feel like being concerned with his brother and left. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ please review... it feeds the plot bunnies in my head and heals my soul...
