Family Ties
A sob broke the silence of the forest, followed by the hurried footsteps of someone running. “…Inuyasha…” the whisper was tore from the runner’s mouth as she breathlessly passed through the dark woods. The moonless sky made everything look more sinister as she kept running, her clothes getting torn by the tree branches while desperately trying to get away from the creature following her. She was its prey and she was losing ground. She had to get away or- No. There was no “or”; she had to run as fast and as far away as she could. She had to get to her mate; after all she had camped relatively close to the village that night.
Far ahead she saw the clearing and cried in relief. Her side ached causing her breathing to come in gasps. As she broke through the clearing she looked behind her, over her right shoulder and saw that the creature was nowhere in sight. Stopping for a minute to catch her breath she tried to concentrate and feel its presence with her Miko powers but felt nothing. If only the creature hadn’t broken her bow. Never mind that, she was close to safety now, only a few more miles.
Not believing that it would give up the hunt that easily she looked around her and found nothing but trees. Everything was eerily silent. Not even birds or insects could be heard. Not a good sign, it meant a predator was nearby, trusting her instincts and the nature’s she began running again after looking behind her for the last time only to stop dead on her tracks when she faced ahead again.
She let out a sob as her eyes flooded with tears and her body began shaking. She was doomed, she knew it. Another sob filled the clearing while she tried to still her crying and trembles. Neither said a word, they both knew what was going to happen, and there was no need for words. Her overflowing eyes met the creature’s red ones and Kagome realized now her error. She shouldn’t have run. By running she had given consent to the beast’s game. It was the Hunter; she was the Prey. And she had lost.
A low growl made her jump. It resounded through all her body and echoed throughout the trees. Her body shivered, her eyes never leaving the creature’s demonic ones. She stepped back as it stepped forward. Again, this little dance repeated itself until she felt the trunk of a tree at her back. Her hands clutched the bark tightly as she waited its approach.

Stopping in front of her, the beast leaned and breathed in her scent with a deep sniff, his warm breath caressing her neck. The devil could smell her fear and it thrilled him, she knew.
When it righted itself she saw the monster raise one hand, deathly claws prepared to strike. As the hand began to fall down her face, in what seemed an eternity to her, she clenched her eyes waiting for the impact that would end it all. But it never came. The clawed hand came towards her face but it was smooth and gentle as a light breeze while it caressed her cheek and from cheekbone to jaw only to end at her lips.
Startled Kagome opened her eyes and met the youkai’s bright red ones with a confused gasp. What was going on? Wasn’t it supposed to kill her now? Although she had to admit that she had been surprised when she had felt the particular youki near her camp and had sought it out, she had been even more surprised when the youkai in question caught her bow and broke it in half. Her reaction had been to inquiry about his sanity, not a very smart thing to do, when he had growled to her to run.
It hadn’t crossed her mind that he was inviting her to “play”; rather he was advising her to escape him for her sake. ‘Idiot, you should know by now how youkais are, especially inuyoukais.’
It dawned to Kagome now that his eyes were not the same as usual; they were wild, almost showing emotion. She should have taken this as an indication that his control was hanging by a thread, only to confirm it when he snapped her bow, but completely ignored the signs until it was too late. The beast was out now, and it wanted to prey on her apparently.
‘Scary thought that…’ As the hand continued to caress her, her eyes darted to the side to see if there was a way to escape the fearsome youkai. Well there was a way, but she was not sure it would work. Closing her eyes to concentrate on her powers she could feel them rising. She did not want to hurt him, but neither did she want to die by his beast’s hand. Soon as her powers rose to surface though, the hand that had been so gently stroking her fell to her throat and with a loud snarl the violent youkai banged her head and back against the tree. Hard.

Hands leaving the tree trunk Kagome grabbed the wrist of the hand choking her while trying to push the massive figure away by punching its chest and shoulder while her legs kicked the muscled shins in a vain effort to release herself.
The beast felt the scorching miko energy its prey began to emanate in a failed attempt to release herself. ‘The bitch needs a lesson.’ The thought crossed the mindless beast’s brain as the youkai regained control over it. Weather she knew it or not the bitch’s little trick had serve its purpose and brought him back.
“Cease.” The growled command and the tightening of his hand on her throat made her stop her fight. The hand choking her released her and she fell to the ground wheezing.
Coughing and trying to regain the air into her lungs she stood up leaning on the tree, as her eyes rose to meet his. Taking notice that his eyes had returned somewhat to normal, she gasped with a sore throat “You…almost…killed me…”

Not receiving an answer she coughed and raised a hand to her injured organ and rubbed softly to relieve the pain. She was sure it would bruise on the morrow.
Again his hand neared her face and gently caressed her cheek as if he had not almost strangled the life out of her a second ago and it was the most natural thing for this human hating youkai to do. His fingers followed the contours of her parted lips, following all the way down to her throat, overlapping with her hand.
Shocked beyond anything she had ever been, she could not help croak the question burning in her mind. “Why?” Why was he doing this? What was the purpose? They were supposed to be allies, furthermore, they were family. Everything had been calm in the year following her return to the Sengoku Jidai, so why was he acting strangely now?
Ignoring her question he removed her hand from her throat, still within his own grasp, and brought it close to his face as he stared at it for a moment before kissing the inside of her small hand tenderly.
Kagome stood there frozen and astonished, blinking rapidly, positive that she looked like an idiot, her eyes on her captured hand, thinking that life could offer no more surprises to her. She had seen it all now. The end of the world must be coming.
“Wh-what-you-you-” she stuttered like a mindless being not knowing what to do or say. Her brain had shut down due to shock and fear. And then, Kagome was proved wrong from her previous statement when he began sucking her index finger, his tongue twirling around it, sharp canines grazing it gently. Eyes opening wide as saucers she stared at him finding his eyes pinned to her face, not missing one of her expressions. Snapping back to reality Kagome pulled her hand out from his hot cavern and hiding it behind her back. “What the hell do you think you are doing?” she nearly screeched. “This isn’t funny you know? You really scared me before, going all beastly on me.” She tried to settle her heartbeat to slow down its pace while taking a deep breath, failing to notice that it made her already perky breasts move up enticing the youkai’s hungry gaze. Realizing it hadn’t been a smart move she tried to pass by him while saying nonchalantly “Now please move, I’ll like to go home to my mate.”
Hearing her speaking of her mate made him livid with jealousy and with another snarl he pushed her against the tree again, his face coming down to level with hers.
