~ Prologue~
          “M’lady, would you like more tea?”
          “Yes, thank you Riku” Ai Higurashi answers as she watches the birds jump along the ground, seeming to dance for food before she smile softly and throws a handful of bird feed to them. She is a sight to hold with soft short black hair, high cheek bones, full red lips, and big blue eyes that sparkle in the sun.
          She smoothes her blue and purple kimono over her pregnant belly, while thinking dreamily of her baby that will be born any day now. She watches the sun dip low in the sky, when the servant returns with a tray filled with small sandwiches and tea. Ai nods her thanks before picking the cup up and taking a sip, then she hears a male voice call out to her and her heart fills with joy. She stands and opens her arms wide when her husband, Aki Higurashi, rushes forward and lifts her into his arms before swinging her in a circle.
          “My love I have missed you so” He murmurs into her hair taking a deep breath before setting her on her feet
          Ai laughs and kisses his cheek, “I saw you not even two hours ago” she smiles at him before returning to her chair, where she admires her husband with his Raven black hair restrained in a ponytail, dark brown eyes and dimples. He pulls his sheath and sword from his belt before taking off his armor as well leaving him in a black and gold shirt and hakkama’s
          “And that was to long” he mutters before sitting across from her in the other chair, “My love how have you been feeling? Any pains?” He asks gesturing to her stomach
          “No their hasn’t been any pains” she says not mentioning the back pain assuming it’s just her normal back pains
“Well my love, this is the last day you will be allowed outside” when Aki see’s the flames that rise in his wife’s eyes he immediately says, “for the safety of you and our child of course”
          Ai’s eyes narrow and she opens her mouth to say something when she stiffens and her eyes widen in shock, “honey” she says
          “What is it my love?” Aki questions leaping up and walking to her side of the table
          “I think my water just broke,” she says her eyes lighting with fear and excitement
          Aki’s eyes widen in shock and his mouth opens before closing again causing Ai to laugh softly, “Darling I would like to give birth to our child I the comfort of our bed” then her eyes widen as a pain pushes through her and she doubles over
          He jumps into action immediately and swings Ai up into his arms before sprinting towards the manor calling out for servants and giving orders as he makes his way to the room. He sits at the bedside next to his wife holding her hand until he is shooed out by the healer who tells him he will be allowed back inside after the child is born.

          After hours of pacing and cursing and being held back by maid and guards when he heard his wife scream in pain, Aki was finally allowed into the room where he saw his wife laying in their bed, holding a small bundle of cloth close to her chest. She looks up and smiles softly when she sees Aki and says in a hushed voice, “come and meet your daughter.”
          He walks carefully to her bedside before sitting down and holding his arms out for the small child. Ai makes sure the child is done feeding before she pulls her away from her breast and gently places her into Aki’s arms. His breath hitches as he looks down at the beautiful child in his arms, her head already has a layer of raven black hair, and she has the most adorable button nose, her eyes are closed and her breathing is deep as she sleeps. Aki runs his fingers across her cheek causing her to turn her head slightly before she settles again.
“She is beautiful” He breaths
Ai hums in agreement before saying tiredly, “I think we should name her Kagome” her eyes droop slightly while she says this
Aki simply nods before leaning over and kissing her cheek and murmuring goodnight and settling down next to her with Kagome wrapped safely between them
Four years later
“Mama! Mama! Look at what I found!” Kagome squeals as she races towards her mother who is sitting on a blanket in the middle of the meadow reading a letter from the lady- and her best friend- of the eastern lands.
“What is it darling?” she asks distractedly not looking up from the note, smiling as she reads about how the ladies son is turning out to be quite the charmer and has a new fling every two days.
“I found a kitty!” She yells excitedly bouncing in place and shoving the brown and white calico cat in her mother’s face
Ai smiles tightly while eyeing the cat looking for any signs of rabies before sighing in relief when she sees none as Kagome begs her to let her keep it, “sweetheart I have no problems with letting you keep it” she says causing Kagome to crow in victory and begin talking excitedly to the cat who she has dubbed Buyo before she continues, “as long as your father agree’s”
Kagome’s face falls and she wails, “but he will say no!” she hugs the cat to her chest protectively
“Honey you don’t know that” Ai says trying to sooth the upset child
“Yes I do! He hates cats!” she cries just as her father walks into the meadow with a dead turkey thrown over his shoulder followed by other men with rabbits and pheasants, with the bloodhounds trotting after them
“I do hate cats, but why are you lovely ladies talking about it?” Aki asks as he drops the turkey to the ground before sitting next Ai and burying his face in her neck, not noticing the cat yet because Kagome had stuffed it inside the outer layer of her kimono
Buyo meows his displeasure at this and Kagome shushes him but not before Aki hears it causing his head to shoot up and then he notices the bulge in the front of Kagome’s kimono
“And what is that Kagome?” He asks noticing the way she twitches with nervousness
“Uh, I ah, ate too much! Yeah the sandwiches were just too good to resist” Kagome rubs the cat pretending it’s her stomach, “mm m mm yummy” her face pales when the cat purrs contentedly at her attentions
“Yeah huh, take the cat out of your kimono” Aki says causing Ai to laugh softly while Kagome’s face falls and she pulls the cat out of her kimono, “Daddy I'm sorry but I really-“ She is interrupted by the hounds barking and growling causing the cats fur to puff up as a low hiss pours from its mouth
The hounds leap towards the cat causing it to jump out of Kagome’s arms and race towards the other end of the meadow but he’s not quick enough. In the hounds haste to reach the cat one of them knocks Kagome over and her arm is caught on one of their claws tearing her skin open. She screams in pain just as the cat gives off a high pitched scream as the hounds go at it viciously.
“Heel!” Aki’s cold voice rings out causing the hounds to flinch and stop moving immediately planting their behinds on the ground but their eyes are still trained on the cat who is crying in pain as a bloody spot in its stomach grows darker along with multiple teeth and claw marks along its body until the cat looks like blood red is its natural color. The other huntsmen take the hounds out of the area claiming they will head back before them.
“Buyo!” Kagome cries rushing out of her mother’s protective arms before dropping to her knees and gathering the yowling cat into her arms gently, completely forgetting about her own injury.
“Daddy! Do something!” she wails tears streaming down her cheeks as the cat quiets in her arms because of blood loss its energy draining away so that he is only whimpering now
“Sweetheart, that’s a serious injury and we are an hour’s carriage ride away from the manor, there’s nothing we can do” Aki says gently trying to extract the kitten from her arms
“NO!” she screams, “no, no, no, no, no! He can’t die, he’s my friend!” she cries as she hugs the now unconscious cat to her chest then her eyes light with determination, “fine if you all won’t do anything then I’ll do something”
“Honey there isn’t anything you can do” Ai says just as Kagome’s bright blue eyes take on a pink tint making her eyes appear violet and the same pink glow emanates from her hand which she presses to the cut on the cats stomach.
Everyone watches in amazement as the wound closes itself and the fur re-grows as well as the cut on Kagome’s arm healing leaving behind no scar. When all the wounds are healed Kagome’s eyes droop before she falls down with the cat cradled in her arms both unconscious. Aki and Ai rush forward and check her pulse before sighing in relief when they feel her heartbeat strong.
Ai looks over at Aki and says softly, “Those were Miko powers wasn’t it?” at Aki’s astonished nod she mumbles quietly, “but there hasn’t been any Miko’s since Midriko and that was centuries ago”
“I know my love, but there is no doubt that our Kagome is a Miko” they both look at the girl who is cuddling with the cat in her sleep who in return purrs contentedly, “our little girl is the only Miko in all of Japan”
“We can’t let anyone know about this, imagine what people would do if they knew” Ai whispers thinking of their child’s safety
“We won’t tell another soul” Aki promises, “and we will have to keep her in the manor so she doesn’t accidently let her powers slip in front of other people” Ai nods her agreement when Kagome mumbles and rubs her eyes before sitting up with Buyo rolling to her lap where he sits up and stretches before rubbing against her stomach.
Kagome giggles before she notices her parents looking down at her and saying sheepishly, “look what I found… Can I keep him? I promise I’ll take good care of him!” Her parent’s eyes widen in shock when they realize she doesn’t remember what happened
“Of course you can keep him dear” Aki says after a few seconds causing Kagome to squeal excitedly
“They said yes Buyo! Just like I said they would, I told you I wouldn’t leave you out here” she tells the kitten tapping his nose causing him to meow happily
“Darling we must return home now” Ai says and begins gathering everything and heading towards their carriage followed by Aki who has Kagome in his arms who has Buyo in her arms, completely oblivious to the fact that this is the last time she will be going out of the palace walls.
Two years later
Flames leap up the manors walls as demons attack the building lead by a man filled with rage and evil, Naraku Himura. Aki grabs his sword and armor before turning to his wife who is hugging her pregnant belly with Kagome hugging her leg, Buyo circling the girl, meowing his worry.
“My love, leave through the tunnels and go to the safe house” he hugs her to his chest and silences her protests with a hard kiss before he says, “I will join you as soon as I can”
Tears fill her eyes but she nods and Aki leans down and scoops Kagome into his arms giving her a bear hug before pulling back, “Kagome I love you, all right?” when she nods he leans forward and kisses her forehead before whispering, “You are a very special creature Kagome, be careful of everyone and anyone who will use you” she looks confused but nods and he sets her before looking down at the now obese cat which he playfully flicks his nose before saying, “see you later you stupid cat” then he turns and grabs his sword before leaving the room without a back glance but if he had you would have seen him fighting tears.
“Come along Kagome we need to leave” Ai says, voice thick with tears while throwing a shawl around her shoulders as Kagome picks up Buyo and follows her mother to a wall where she pulls a loose stone from the wall and sticks her arm through the hole and presses a button on the other side and then steps back as the wall groans before pulling out of the way.
Ai lights a torch hanging from a scone on the wall inside the tunnel before closing the wall and placing the stone back in place just as the door burst open in the room and demons begin entering looking for them. She grabs the torch before she turns to Kagome and grabs her hand, then she begins running down the hall with Kagome running next to her. The opening in the wall in which they came through burst open as the demons follow their scent. Ai pushes Kagome ahead of her when she hears the wall collapse, and almost cries with relief when she sees the end of the tunnel that leads to the forest at the back of the house. She drops the torch on the stone floor and it immediately goes out as she claws at the lever and pulls down causing the wall to swing open into the cool night air. Kagome runs out with Buyo cradled in her arms followed by her mother who swings the wall shut before she grabs Kagome’s hand again and begins running into the woods. Kagome screams when a hideous creature appears in front of her and she tightens her arms around Buyo and her mother grabs a huge branch and swings it into the things face as it goes to bite Kagome.
“Run Kagome!” Ai yells as the thing lunges at her and she slams the stick on its head, “I’ll be right behind you” she yells and when Kagome hesitates, she screams, “Go now!” Kagome Jumps and runs into the woods
Ai looks after her with a sad expression, “My beautiful girl, how I love you” She whispers with tears in her eyes before they pour out onto her cheeks because she knows she won’t be coming out of this fight alive, and she will never see her family or be able to give birth to her child. The beast roars and lunges at her and she slams the stick in its face, but damn if she isn’t going to put up a fight.
Kagome runs through the woods with branches snapping at her and slicing her night kimono and scratching her. She shifts Buyo to rest on her other arm when her arm starts to throb from his weight. She hears a loud screech followed by a loud blood curdling scream causing her to sob, and then she screams when the ground suddenly gives away to a steep hill and she rolls and tumbles Buyo flying from her grasp yowling in shock before she lands at the bottom of the hill and a blinding pain shoots through her head before everything does dark.
