It is true. We do not know what we had until it is ripped away from us, as Sesshoumaru basically stated. In his perspective, it always felt like love so he doesn't feel any of it was wrong and doesn't see any bad in what transpired between them, besides the obvious cruel rejection.

I think this chapter also reinforces the hold that Touga had on him and kind of explains why Sesshoumaru never tried to go back to his father. He desperately wanted to, but he had always been the son that obeyed his father no matter what. His father told him it was over, to leave, and he did. Sesshoumaru didn't like it, but that part of himself wouldn't let him disobey him no matter how much it hurt him to remain passive.

This one-shot also throws the world in Sesshoumaru's face in a way he had never seen it before. It scares him because it is different and uncertain. When everything is certain and great in your life, you often don't fear anything and you're fine. But in life, things do change. It didn't change much for him until he was rejected and exiled. New things are not always welcome or appreciated. He pretty much realizes that in spite of all the pain, he has to make a life for himself. He know he has to find something to distract him from his pain. He knows he needs a goal and something to strive for. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't know what to do since he was so sheltered. It seems like the only socialization he ever had was between his father and himself. And that's one reason why I want to kick Touga in the balls.

This was as good as always, and in some ways, it filled in more gaps.

It's a good story, there is something 'cold' about the way Sesshy looks back at it. As though part of his heart is already gone.
