AN: The film “Life Size” was the one I was thinking of. I could remember the actresses, but not the title. I also was thinking of “The Nutcracker” when I thought this up. It was one of my favorite stories when I was a kid.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Inuyasha.
Chapter One: That Boy Needs Some Clothes
“Who am I? WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!?”
Her breath was coming in fast, short gasps.
Don’t hyperventilate. BREATHE NORMAL. Freaking out won’t help anything.
Surely there was a reasonable explanation for this guy on her bed.
Surely.
There had to be a cause for this weird young man in her room. A weird young man who happened to currently have no clothes on and was looking at himself in obvious confusion.
Dolls couldn’t come to life. Could they?
No, that’s ridiculous.
“I’m Inuyasha.” He said it as if it was the most obvious answer to her question, and she should have already known. Looking her up and down as if he were scrutinizing her, he asked, “And who, pray tell, are you?”
“Oh no. I’m the one asking the questions here buddy!” The freaking nerve of this guy. Getting all uppity with her and he wasn’t even dressed properly. He wasn’t even dressed at all. And he was on her bed. “Where did you come from?”
“The box,” he growled. Or at least it sounded like a growl. “Where you’ve been keeping me for the last eight years I might add.” He sounded mightily annoyed with her. What did he have to be pissed about? She wasn’t the one invading his space.
“What?” She would be able to recall leaving a full-grown man in a box. She definitely didn’t remember getting a doll that looked like him either. So where did he come from?
“You’ve kept me in this box for eight years. It’s been quite boring really.”
All of this came out very naturally in an overly obnoxious tone. Like he thought it made sense. But it couldn’t.
“Eight years?” She was flabbergasted. She couldn’t remember him at all. Wouldn’t she recall him even just a little? Surely with a body like that… “Didn’t you need food?”
“No.” Of course not. If he was a doll it wasn’t like he would ever eat.
Oh man. She wasn’t starting to believe this was she?
“Are you sure you were in that box and not in some other place? Like one with white walls? Padded white walls?”
Surely he had to be the crazy one.
“No, I was in that box right over there. Of course I was in my doll form.” He nodded at the last part to emphasis the rightness of this to her. He sat there on her bed, leaning back onto his hands with his legs crossed looking entirely comfortable, as if none of this were unusual. Unfortunately this wasn’t something Kagome felt terribly comfortable in seeing.
“Oka-a-ay.” A sudden wave of nausea overtook her. She bent over with her hand over her stomach, her face reddening in concentration. She was not going to vomit in front of this guy. But this was all too weird!
“Are you alright? You‘re not going to puke are you?” He looked concerned. Maybe because he didn’t want her to spew all over him.
“No. I don’t think that I am.” Of course she wasn’t. Maybe her ex really had driven her crazy like she claimed. Maybe cleaning her room had wiped all the fight out of her to beat away the delusions.
Or maybe this was real.
She slowly walked towards him eyeing him up and down. No need to frighten him. She was trying to do this cautiously as possible. Just make sure he was really there. She lightly placed her fingertips on his shoulder and he jerked back just a little from the feeling of her touch. He looked up at her, slightly confused and curious. He felt warm and a little smooth. Her hand moved to touch him more fully.
Yep, he was definitely real. Very very real.
She accidentally looked down.
“You know, you need to get off of my bed and I need to get you some clothes.” This all came out very quickly and at first she didn’t think he could understand what she was saying. But then he promptly got up taking no heed to his nudity. Kagome’s hand flew to her face to shield her eyes and her obvious blush.
She practically ran to the closet to find him something to wear. There had to be something in her room that would fit him. She had taken to sweatpants in the last six months. Maybe those would work.
A pair of running shorts and an old button up shirt later, she could finally look at him without embarrassment. Sitting him down at the table in her near non-existent kitchen she readied herself for her interrogation.
“How did you get into that box?”
He gazed back up at her astounded. “You put me in there.” He seemed so accusatory towards her. How could he blame her for something she couldn’t even recollect doing?
“Sorry, but I don’t remember putting you I that box at all. And I think I would because I only put things that are important to me in there.” She abruptly turned around, pacing the small room in thought.
His eyes brightened a bit at that retort but she hadn‘t seen.
“Okay, why are you alive now and not a doll? How come this never happened before?” She was dying to know the answer to this one. This was the one that she couldn’t shake off her mind. Even if she knew this one thing, it would make her feel tremendously better.
“I don’t know. Maybe because you never wished me to life before.” He frowned in thought.
Kagome’s face contorted in disbelief. Of all the things he couldn’t tell her that was the one?
“Where did I get you from then?” If she’d put him in there, there had to be somewhere or someone she’d gotten him from.
“I can’t remember. It’s been so long.” He looked away from her. For some reason she thought he was lying, but she wouldn’t press it. She’d find out soon enough.
Taking a seat across the table from him, she rested her chin on her palm in disappointment. This really wasn’t going anywhere. Maybe she needed some outside help.
“What am I going to do with you?” she muttered to herself.
“Good question,” he grunted.
Her eyes darted back to him in shock. He’d heard? Then she promptly banged her head on the table in irritation. She definitely needed some help.
Not ten minutes in the future she found herself in her car with a very confused young man in the passenger seat. His eyes roamed over the consol with amazement.
“I don’t remember these things having this many gadgets.“ He began playing with the knobs to her radio, changing the station. She quickly slapped his hand away.
“Don’t play with that.”
“Why not?” he almost whined.
“Because I think it’s annoying.” She glared at him a bit. Then sighed in frustration.
“I’m sorry, but this has been a really bad day. Scratch that, a really bad year,” she sighed guiltily. She actually did feel a bit remorseful. It wasn’t like it was his fault that he hadn’t ever seen a real car before. According to him he’d been in a box for eight years.
“I suppose I can forgive you,” he murmured in a haughty voice, sounding so snobbish she couldn’t help but snap back at him.
“You know, for someone who wasn’t alive thirty minutes ago, you sure as hell are mouthy.”
He grumbled a bit to himself and sat back down into the seat.
After leaving her apartment and getting on the freeway Inuyasha suddenly piped up. “Where are we going?”
“To Sango,” Kagome replied. “She’s a sensible woman. She can help me with this.” Or at least I hope so.
