Chapter 23: The Twins Arrive

A/N: Rin gives birth to her pups. Sesshomaru is overjoyed when he holds his pups for the first time!
Rin lay there feeling the beads of sweat roll down her back as she sat up in the bed. She had just given birth to twin pups. Her tiny body was exhausted to say the least. She glanced down at the two tiny infants that had been placed in her arms carefully. Her little girl was absolutely beautiful with dark ink black hair, gray eyes that seemed to glow they were so piercing, a small pale blue crescent moon that hung in the middle of her forehead and white dog ears that had silky ink black fur on the tips of them. Then her browns eyes drifted over to the small infant boy that she was also holding. He had coal black hair that wasn�t quite as dark as his sister�s, amber eyes just like Sesshomaru�s, the same pale blue crescent moon that marked his sister�s forehead was found in the middle of his as well, and identical white dog ears with black tips. Her children were both beautiful.
Sesshomaru took his little girl into his arms first and held her close to his broad chest. �My little Kohana, you�re so beautiful and perfect. Just like your mother.�
�Oh Sess, stop it.� Kohana squealed a little and Sesshomaru immediately looked to Rin for help. �Just shift her Sesshomaru, she doesn�t like the way you�re holding her that�s all.� He shifted Kohana so that her head was laying on his shoulder gently. She seemed to like that position better because her squealing ceased quickly. Sesshomaru instinctively began rubbing small circles on his baby girl�s back. Kohana�s gray eyes began to droop shut almost instantly. Once she had fallen asleep a maid servant took her down the hall to the nursery that had been prepared for the twins. �Oh Sesshomaru, you�re going to be a wonderful father.�
�Thank you Rin.�
�For what?�
�For giving me such beautiful children.� She blushed immediately. Another maid servant took little Kiyoshi who was now sound asleep as well. Sesshomaru sat down on the edge of Rin�s bed and took her small hand in his much large one. �I love you so much Rin.�
�And I love you Sesshomaru.� He brought her hand to his lips and placed a chaste kiss on it. Rin felt her heart skip a beat when Sesshomaru�s lips touched the back of her hand lightly. She felt as if someone had lit a fire in the pit of her stomach and it was starting to spread slowly through out her entire body. �Sesshomaru?�
�Yes Rin?�
�Promise me that we will always be together.�
�Of course we will, we are bonded for life. You and I will be together in every life after this as well no matter how many times our souls are reincarnated because they have been permanently bound.�
�I want nothing more than to have you by my side for the rest of the time that I am in this world. I love you with everything that I am Sesshomaru.�
�I love you more than words could ever express Rin, you have no idea what a difference having you in my life has made. You are my angel and I could not live without you in my life.� Rin squeezed her mate�s hand tightly as if never wanting to let go of him. �You should get some sleep now Rin, you look exhausted.� She nodded and allowed her brown eyes to droop shut. Sesshomaru sat on the edge of his mate�s bed and watched her sleep. Her raven hair was spread out on the pillow beneath her making it look like she was laying on a black silky pillowcase. Her breathing had become soft and rhythmic and Sesshomaru knew that she had fallen asleep. He carefully removed his hand from hers and crept quietly from the room. Sesshomaru headed down towards the study and saw that Inuyasha was sitting at the large cherry wood desk looking at some old family documents.
Inuyasha looked up to see his older brother standing in the doorway of the study. �Hey Sess, what�s up?�
�Oh nothing, just restless.�
�Yeah me too. Kagome is already asleep and I didn�t want to wake her just because I can�t seem to get to sleep tonight. So how is Rin?�
�She�s fine, sleeping now. It took a lot out of her to give birth to two pups.�
�I�m sure it did. So both of the pups are healthy then?�
�Yes Kohana and Kiyoshi are just fine. They both have dog ears atop their heads just like yours except that they have black fur at the tips of them.� Inuyasha smiled at the thought of both of Sesshomaru�s pups having dog ears just like his.
�So you�re really okay with the fact that your pups are only half demon?�
�Yes, it makes no difference to me.�
�This coming from the same demon that swore he would never have worthless half breed pups.�
�Well things change.�
�And I also recall that you said you would never stoop so low as to mate with a weak pathetic human woman either.�
�People change Inuaysha, that was before I ever met Rin. I fell in love with Rin and I don�t care that she�s human. She is my soul mate and I shall never be with anyone else.�
�Wow I never thought I would ever hear my older brother Sesshomaru the human hater saying that he was in love with a human.�
�And did you ever think that you would take the woman that was originally brought in to serve as your whore to be your mate?�
�Well no not exactly. I never expected to love Kagome or have pups with her. She was only supposed to serve as my whore, but she became important to me. She became everything that I ever wanted to have in my life. Kagome is the only woman that will ever hold my heart.�
�Rin is the only woman that will ever hold my heart as well little brother. So both of us have taken human mates and have half breed pups, should that matter to either one of us?� Inuyasha shook his head. �Would you ever change your decision to make Kagome your mate?�
�Not a chance in hell would I give her up. She is everything to me Sesshomaru. I would gladly give my life to protect her. Kagome is the most perfect and forgiving creature I have ever known. I consider myself lucky that she forgave me let alone fell in love with me.�
�As you should Inuyasha, Kagome is a very lovely young woman indeed. kno know I apologized to her for raping her that night in your chambers.� Inuyasha�s amber eyes grew wide in disbelief.
�Wait you apologized?�
�Yes as hard to believe as that seems, I Sesshomaru, apologized for what I did wrong. Kagome was kind enough to accept my apology and hopefully we can start anew as brother and sister by marriage as we should have always been.�
�Thank you for apologizing for what you did to Kagome. I�m sure that it meant a lot to her.�
�Yes at first she seemed rather skeptical about whether or not she should believe me.� Inuyasha chuckled at Sesshomaru�s remark.
�Well you aren�t exactly the apologizing type Sesshomaru. What made you decide to apologize to Kagome in the first place?�
�Well Rin and I were having a discussion late one night and she asked if there was anything that I had done that I was hiding from her. So I told her about the night that I had forced myself upon Kagome in your chambers. Then Rin said that I should apologize to Kagome for what I had done to her.�
�Ah so it was Rin that put you up to apologizing?�
�Yes but I had wanted to make amends for what I had done to Kagome.�
�You actually felt guilty about that?�
�Yes little brother, you know I�m not as heartless as I make myself out to be. Just don�t let that get out, I have a reputation to keep up.�
�I�ll make sure that everyone thinks you�re still the same heartless bastard they always thought you were.�
�Thank you Inuyasha, I appreciate it. So what are you looking at?�
�Oh just some of the family�s old documents. Hey Sesshomaru?�
�Yes?�
�Do you ever worry about Kagome and Rin wanting to return home to their old village?�
�Occasionally. Do you?�
�Yes. What if some of their friends from the village decide to come looking for them?�
�Well I think that Kagome and Rin would choose to stay here. After all this is their home now. They cannot go back and live in the shrine that they were raised in. Mikos are supposed to remain pure and untouched and they are not. They both have two children, two half breed children at that. The village would never accept Kagome and Rin�s children.�
�Yes I suppose that�s true.�
�Do you remember what it was like for you and your mother when you were young?�
�Yes barely. It was horrible. Everyone shunned me and my mother because I was a half demon half human. They didn�t want us living in the village with them.�
�It would be the same for our children as well. Kagome and Rin are no longer welcome in their village.�
�Kagome and Rin truly have no where to go accept here because this is the only place that they would not be shunned.�
�Yes. They are both intelligent women Inuaysha, they know they cannot return to their former lives as mikos from the village shrine.� The two brothers remained silent for a while and then both returned to their separate chambers to join their mates in bed.
