A single droplet of water fell from the heavens, landing on the almond coloured cheek of the cloaked individual standing at the base of the Higurashi shrine steps. It's now or never. They are my only option. One step at a time until the top, where the crunching of the gravel beneath the individual's feet echoed harmoniously alongside the rain that fell. Maybe they will help. Higurashi Sonumo is my last resort. A gloved hand reached for the doorbell, cringing slightly when its sharp sounds pierced the air.
"Hello, higura.... oh my. Father, we have a visitor!" The woman stood aside, slightly paled at the sight of the rainsoaked person standing before her. "Come inside, please. Here, let me take that and hang it to dry." Mrs. Higurashi was allowed to slip the cloak from the stranger's shoulders only to be shocked when she was met with the answer to her next question.
"Thank you, Higurashi Ashiri. However, I do not need any dry clothes, these are only dampened at the bottom." The now, scantily clad young woman standing before Mrs. Higurashi shook out her long mane, letting the multi-coloured curls bouce and cascade down her back. She was uneeding of dry clothing because the only cloth garments she wore were her long, black glove on her left arm; and the blood-red skirt that draped to just above the floor and was split to her mid-thigh, revealing the skin-tight shorts of the same color she wore beneath. The skirt was fastened just below the waist with a silver belt that appeared to be too heavy to maneuver in. It was higly polished and gleamed in the low light; it's design was simple, consisting of intricate carvings and a few strategically placed jewels for accent. At the base of her skirt the tips of her knee-high, black, leather boots could barely be seen poking out. The top half of her body was not quite as simple, she wore a thin-strapped corset top which was an intricately woven lace design of black and blood-red; at the bust there was a red ribbon placed to tighten or loosen the top -- her breasts, however, did not allow for very much closure. She wore a black lace choker about her neck with a single pear-shaped diamond dangling from the center. Her ears bore a matching set of the dangling jewel. Above all, the adornment on her right hand was the most amazing; along her forearm ran a decorated silver coil, spiraling downward until it pooled at the wrist and then expanded over the back of her and and down to coil about her fingers. At the base of each finger perched a sharp silver claw, the only weapon she seemed to possess. Though the peice was the most outstanding, it was also the most outlandish; perched at each intersection there rested a ruby, and along the silver bands was carved an inticate design. On the back of her hand rested a larger ruby and underneath it bore some strange writing. All-in-all the girl was intimidating, but peaceful all the same. Her face bore no make-up and her body no artificial fragrances, but her hair was slightly adorned with a set of jade chopsticks which held the top portion of her locks up.
Shortly after the girls cloak and belongings were sat i the corner to dry, the old man finally emerged from somewhere in the house. "Ah, Higurashi Rheian(rreh-ian)! Come, sit!" The old man caused a smile from Rheian as she sat across from Sonumo at the kitchen table. "So, my neice, what brings you here?" Sonumo seeing the questioning look upon his daughter's face quikly exlained the situation. "Ashiri, this is Rheian, my great neice. I have never spoken much of my nephew Taoshiru, but this is his daughter. Rheian smiled towards Mrs. Higurashi, bowing her head slightly in respect which Ashiri promptly returned in her confused state.
"Great Uncle, I have come bearing bad news. I am sorry, but my father has passed in his early age. He never let on that he was even sick, but i knew. He would moan in his sleep as if he were in pain, then one night, he was just quiet. Everything was cold, he had finally left us. I am sorry to ask this of you, but i have no way of arranging a funeral. He did not leave behind in his will anything besides that I inherit his estates. I do not want them, they hold bad memories, but i will not sell them either." Rheian paused, she had lost all the family she had ever known now besides that which lived at the very house she was in. "I cannot bear to live in the same house that both my parents died in." Before she could continue, Sonumo had her in an embrace, assuring her that his home would now hold his entire family now. "What do you mean? You want me to stay here? I can't, I will find somewhere."
"Nonsense, Taoshiro would have wanted you to be among family. And, do you not still attend highschool?" Rheian shook her head, she had finished her last semester the previous year in America. "I see, well... one such as yourself should be greately appreciated here at the shrine! Ashiri, will you set up the spare room for our new addition?" Ashiri nodded, walking off to attend to the new addition to the household. "We will arrange for the funeral to be here, I think he would have liked that, don't you? Yes, I thought so. We will have to ship the body from America.. oh you already have it on the way. Good. Well, let us sleep for the night and finish this conversation in the morning when you will hopefully meet the rest of the family."

Kagome rushed through the well, trying her damndest to escape Inuyasha before he could prevent her travel home. "Ah, made it." She leapt down the well to be engulfed in a blue light, followed shortly after by Inuyasha. Once on the other side she made a mad dash for the front door of her home, slamming it in the face of the angered hanyou.
"Kagome! Get back here! We haven't found all the shards yet! Oomph!" Inuyasha ran right into Kagome's back as she stood stoicaly by the kitchen entrance. "What the.." Before he could voice his question, Kagome had pointed to the disgruntled looks of her mother and grandfather, accompanied by the amused look of their visitor.
"Kagome, Inuyasha, this is Higurashi Rheian. She will be staying with us from now on, and helping around the shrine. Kagome, go tidy up before you come to dinner." Ashiri firmly shooed her daughter out of the kitchen, slightly annoyed that she would burst into the house with such a commotion. It only further annoyed and agravated Ashiri that they had had a guest at the time also.
Inuyasha waltzed into the kitchen, sniffing at the new additon to the household. He growled, drawing tetsaiga. "You are not a human! Who are you and what do you want here?" Rheian smiled, amused at the half-breed's keen nose, but also annoyed by it.
"Lower your sword mutt, I am family. Surely you can smell that the same blood courses through us all." Inuyasha sniffed the air, finally lowering his sword and resheathing it. "I am Higurashi Rheian, I am the daughter of Higurashi Taoshiro and Dayanera. Sonumo is my great uncle. My mother was an eagle hanyou, and my grandmother, my father's mother, was a wolf hanyou. My father shared my grandfather's taste in hanyou's I presume. Nice to make your acquaintance, Inuyasha." She bowed her head in greeting to Inuyasha, who returned the gesture, sitting down accross from her at the table.
"Feh, why didn't Kagome tell me she had youkai blood in her family?" He crossed his arms in his haori sleeves as he stared menacingly at Rheian, almost daring her to challenge him.
"That is becuase she doesn't know. She has never met my nephew, nor has my daughter. Ashiri, dear, we have demonic relatives. I never thought it would come up, but yes my nephew married a hanyou." Ashiri nodded, slightly taken aback by this knowledge, but not angered or frightened.
"Well, this is news to me, but it changes nothing, you are still very welcome in this home." Ashiri crossed the room to hug her cousin, which she never knew she had until the night before. "However, I wonder, we have had many preistesses in our family, do you possess any miko powers as Kagome does? I am afraid only the women seem to inherit it." Rheian shook her head, she possessed no spiritual miko abilities, however, she did harbour several demonis traits. "I see. Well, I suppose Kagome should know..."
Rheian broke into the woman's sentence before she could finish. "No need, she has been listening at the top of the stairs for most of the conversation." After she spoke, there could be heard a loud gasp from outside the room and a low growl from accross the table. Inuyasha had been too taken aback by this new information that he had not even noticed Kagome's presence until now. "You are nearly two-hundred and fifty years old Inuyasha, you should have learned by now to control your senses better than that. I am merely fifty and noticed her, how pathetic." Rheian mocked the hanyou, knowing well what she was getting herself into. He has not claimed a mate yet, he is free for the taking. I think I will see just how much this man knows about what his instincts are telling him. She could see him fixate her with his gaze as she lowered hers in submisson. Then she found her answer as she heard the low growl of approval that he gave when she did not challenge him again. So, he does know how to listen to his demonic side, he will make a formidable opponent. "I think that i will go for a walk, I am feeling cooped up." She nodded to both Sonumo and Ashiri before getting up to leave.

"Rheian?" Kagome caused the woman to turn as she ran up to walk beside her. "Hi. Um, do you mind walking with me to school? I want to talk to you." Rheian nodded her approval as fell into stride with Kagome. "So, um, I never knew that I was related to demons, let alone that they still existed in this time. I can't beleive gramps kept it fomr us all these years." She kicked at a rock as they left the final step away from the shrine, she wanted to know everything the young woman beside her had to tell.
The woman smiled at Kagome, she liked her already. "I am sure he has his reasons. And, yes there still exist youkai in this time, but very few. Mostly there are only hanyous and those with very faint traces of demonic blood coursing through their veins. Over the years, many female youkai died out from wars, and there weren't enough of them being born to replenish the shortage so demons turned to the human surplus of females. The pure blooded youkai is a rarity nowadays, but i am surprised that you have never seen through the concealment spells of many of the youkai in the city. You need more training girl, if I were you i would learn to harness the immense amount of power i can feel radiating from you. You have a great gift, don't let it go to waste; miko's with actual spiritual power are even more rare than pureblooded youkai." Kagome was growing to admire the woman before her the more she spoke, she never knew she had any other family than what she lived with. She was anxious to let a relationship blossom between her and her newfound cousin.
"Do you use a concealment spell?" Kagome wanted to know everything about anything Rheian was willing to tell her. "And, how come you look so young? Didn't you say Inuyasha was over two-hundred and you were fifty, how come you guys look like you are barely older than myself?"
She smiled at Kagome's endless onslaught of questioning, she had never experienced a younger sister. She enjoyed the feeling. "Youkai age as mortals until they reach maturity, then we age one year for every century. I am essentially eighteen, and Inuyasha I would say is nearly twenty-one." Kagome looked wide-eyed at this new information. Wow, he is way too old for me, I am only sixteen and he's twenty-one! So much for that crush, that is way gross, he is like an old man! He's two-hundred and fifty years old! "And, no i do not use a concealment spell, I don't have any skin markings and I look relatively human save for my eyes."
"Your eyes? They look normal green to me." Kagome looked closely as Rheian removed the coloured contacts she was wearing. "Wow, I wish I had eyes like those." Rheian had revealed golden, hawk-like eyes that caused her too look more feline than her eagle and wolf hanyou heritage. "So, what all can you do?"
Rheian smirked at the innocence of the young girl beside her. This girl has got to be sheltered from everything in the world to be this untainted. "Well, child, I can," Rheian flexed her right hand, making the metal claws clank together as she prepared for her source of amusement. "scratch you." Kagome's eyes went wide as Rheian's cool metal claws raked down the heated flesh of her left arm, causing her to drop the school books that she held. Ah, sweet satisfaction. God, I love to spook people, just that wide-eyed look drives me insane with glee. Rheian sang with joy in her mind as Kagome bent down to pick up the fallen and scattered books.
"Jeez, those things are really sharp, just like Inuyasha's." Kagome stooped abover her books as she spoke, attempting to gather them as quickly and neatly as possible. "Wait, Rheian? Don't you have claws of your own?"
Intuitive little wench aren't you? Fine, I suppose I can trust family. Rheian sniffed the air about Kagome, trying her best to decide if the young miko was trustworthy. "You smell like you are an honest human." She stared at Kagome, daring her to say anything that would change her mind before it was too late. "So, I will tell you things that only family should have the right to know." Kagome nodded, silently conveying her word that she would not repeat anything she heard. "I have claws, yes, but they are no where near as long as that Inuyasha friend of yours is." She removed the silver gauntlet adorning her right arm, revealing to Kagome the short, pointed nails that sat upon the tips of her fingertips. "They barely look like youkai, they look more like a human simply grew his own nails out. I can't stand them, they are absolutely useless as weapons." Kagome smiled inwardly at the older girl's confession.
She thinks she needs a weapon here, wait until she sees where I go all the time. "So, where did you get that gauntlet?" Kagome wanted to know anything and everything Rheian would tell her; she had never known she had demons in her family and she found it fascinating.
"My father had it made for me on my sixteenth birthday, he thought since Greydan had claws to scratch with so should I. Oh, Greydan is my half-brother. He is half eagle-hanyou and half human. Unfortunately for me, he received all of mother's youkai traits and all of his father's boring ones. He is like this spikey-eared study freak. He goes to Tokyo University and he is constantly not having a life." Rheian stopped, mid-stride and sighed in concentration. "Kagome, if I tell you all that you want to know about myself and the family you've never known, will you do something for me?" The young miko fidgeted under Rheian's intense, yet unintentional stare, and finally nodded her head in aquiescence. "Great. I will tell you everything you ask about myself, in total confidence i am sure, and you can go on a date with Greydan!" Kagome silently cursed her premature agreement as she was suddenly whisked into yet another blind-date. "Now, ask away." Rheian smiled warmly at Kagome as she awaited the onslaught of questioning.
