The night was dark as Inuyasha pulled the demon’s limp carcass towards the twin-headed dragon. He could only imagine the things he was going to hear when the demon came to, but it was either this or listen to Kagome chew him out for being inconsiderate.
His mind flowed back to earlier in the evening, when Jaken had first been discovered by the villagers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inuyasha held the hoe high above his head before thrusting it back down into the soft dirt beneath his feet. He began to walk backwards, trailing the farm tool behind him as he did so. When he got to the end of the row, he wiped the sweat from his brow and made his way to his hut.
As he approached the doorway, a small head popped out of the doorway. The little girl looked at him with big golden brown eyes before running towards him and grabbing his waist in an almost painful hug. He looked down at the girl with a look of surprise before lifting her up into his arms and returning the love filled embrace.
“How are you doing, Kaede?”
“Alright, Papa.”
“Good. How’s your mother? Is she feeling well?”
Kaede frowned. “She’s doing ok, but I think she’d be doing better if her belly wasn’t so big.”
Inuyasha laughed. “Well, with any luck, her belly won’t be so big for much longer.” He carried the little girl into the hut, where Kagome sat with her back to the wall, eyes closed and belly swollen with her second child. In front of her, a young woman was kneeling in front of the cauldron, stirring the stew inside. He sat his daughter on the floor, and made his way toward his wife. He clutched her left hand in his and placed his right on her forehead. Her head was cool, which put his mind at ease. His voice was soft as he said, “How are you feeling, Kagome?”
Kagome stirred, then opened her eyes and turned her head towards Inuyasha very slowly. “Oh, Inuyasha. Did you say something?”
“Yeah, I asked you how you were feeling.”
“A lot better, now that you’re here.” Kagome braced herself against the wall and tried to stand, but Inuyasha grabbed her arm.
“I don’t want you to do too much moving, okay?”
“But-“
Inuyasha shook his head. “No buts. You just relax, okay? We’ll take care of everything. Isn’t that right, girls?”
Kaede and the young woman turned towards them and said, “Right!”
Inuyasha grinned. “See, we’ve got everything under control.”
Kagome chuckled. “I see.” She then winced and clutched at her stomach as a sharp pain shot through her body. “By the way, thanks for all of your help, Rin.”
Rin turned her head towards Kagome and said, “It’s no problem, Kagome. It’s the least I could do after all you have done for me.” She turned and moved her head closer to the cauldron. “I think it’s ready, Kagome.”
“Okay, here I come.” Once again, she tried to stand, but once again, Inuyasha placed his hand on her shoulder and kept her down.
“I told you to take it easy. I’ll bring it to you.” He went over to the cauldron, scooped some of the stew out and brought it to her, his hand underneath the spoon to keep the food from escaping. He tilted it upward as he held it to her mouth, frowning at the sound of her slurping it in. Does she have to be so noisy?
“Ummm, it tastes good. You did a good job, Rin.”
“I had a good teacher.” Rin smiled as her mind floated away to memories of her time with Kaede. The elderly priestess had passed away a year before, peacefully in her sleep. Inuyasha and Kagome’s oldest child had been named after her, and when the old woman had passed away, she was so full of questions and innocence that it brought everyone to tears. Rin was just happy to know that her mentor had passed away without any pain and more importantly, no regrets. She knew that Kaede was in a better place, reunited with her sister, Kikyo.
“Rin? Is something wrong?” The six-year old girl was kneeling in front of her and looking at her with a deep frown on her face, steadily blinking her eyes.
“Hmmm? Oh, yeah, everything’s just fine. Let’s eat!”
* * *
Later on, Rin and Kaede were leaning against the wall of the hut, dozing slightly. On the opposite wall, Inuyasha sat, with his arm around Kagome’s shoulder as she nestled up against his chest.
“I want to thank you for taking care of things while I’m…incapacitated,” Kagome said wistfully.
“Uhhh, ok.” Although she had been in the feudal era for quite some time, Kagome still had a tendency to use big words from her old world. Lately, that had been less often, but it was still a pain since he couldn’t understand what they (or she, for that matter) meant. When will she learn that I don’t know what these words mean?
“That means that I’ve been unable to help.” It was almost like she read his mind.
“Oh. I knew that.”
“Right.” Kagome rolled her eyes, and then turned back to Inuyasha. It took a minute for him to realize she was staring at him.
“What?”
“I said I want to thank you.”
Inuyasha had become quite good at reading between the lines in these situations. “How? You’re...’incapacitated,’ and Kaede and Rin are sitting right there in front of us.”
She reached up and pulled his ear close so that she could whisper in his ear. “I have my ways,” said the seductive voice. Inuyasha then felt her hand slide down. The fingertips lightly brushed his cheek before trailing down to his chest. Her hand continued to slide down until finally, it made its way to his newly awakened loins.
Inuyasha could feel the blood rushing. He tilted his head back in anticipation as the hand slowly took hold of his ever hardening erection. Her hand slowly began to make its way back and forth, and with each motion, Inuyasha moaned deep inside. He made sure not to moan too loud so that he wouldn’t wake Rin and Kaede.
Kagome continued her slow, erotic ministrations. She grinned lightly as she watched Inuyasha do his best to keep from crying out in pleasure. It brought her great pleasure to do things like this for Inuyasha. She would’ve actually fucked him if she could, but in her current situation, this was all she could do. It still made her glad, though, to know that her touch could excite him this much. They had truly come a long way as a couple.
The slow moving hand continued to stroke Inuyasha’s member as his mouth moaned its praises. The scent of his arousal drove him wild and only made him even more aroused. The scent mixed with the other scents in the air and slowly pushed him toward his limit. He could feel the end coming near. Closer and closer. Almost there…
Inuyasha lifted his head and pulled Kagome’s hand out of his pants just before one of the villagers came bursting through the door. His arm hit the doorway, which woke the sleeping girls with a start. Kaede was so surprised and startled that she began to cry. Rin pulled her close and began to comfort her. As she did so, she moved her gaze toward the man who’d barged in and glared.
Inuyasha and Kagome quickly followed suit. Inuyasha’s nostrils flared as he picked himself up off of the ground and made his way toward the man.
“You better have a good reason for barging in here like this and frightening my daughter.”
The man struggled to catch his breath. It was obvious that he’d been running very fast. “ I do. Lady Kagome, there is something you must see.”
Kagome frowned. “I would come right away if I physically able, but as you can see, that is not the case. What is it you want me to see?”
The man gulped. “M’lady, it seems that a demon has collapsed outside of the village. We were wondering if you would come and purify it.”
Kagome scoffed. “That seems kind of harsh. Did the demon threaten you in any way before collapsing?”
“No, but-“
“Then I see no reason to purify it. With all due respect, good sir, the purification process is very taxing on a priestess’s body and I would rather not endanger my unborn child.”
“I understand my lady. May I ask that Inuyasha come and slay the demon?”
“That is entirely up to Inuyasha.” Kagome looked at her husband, who sighed and asked, “How big is it?”
“Surprisingly, it’s quite small. No bigger than a small child. It’s not so much the demon that we’re afraid of as its weapon.”
Inuyasha looked both aggravated and puzzled as he stared at the villager. “What?”
“He means that they’re more afraid of its weapon than they are of the demon itself.” Inuyasha glanced at Kagome briefly before directing his attention back to the villager.
“Well, if this demon is so small, then why are you so scared of it?”
“You see, we tried to bring it here while it was still conscious, but when we went to take its weapon, it refused to let go and began swinging the weapon at us. That’s when it fainted.”
“I see. What kind of weapon is it?”
“It’s a staff. Gruesome thing. It is twice as tall as the demon and has the head of an elderly man and woman carved out at the top.”
When the villager mentioned the two heads, there was a moment of quiet, before a blue streak swept past the villager and through the door. Kaede looked up in amazement as she looked up from the spot where Rin had been sitting.
There was a dash of red as Inuyasha burst through the door after her, yelling, “Rin, wait! I said wait, dammit!”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She ran as fast as she could. She had to get there before something happened, she had to see for herself if her suspicions were true. She had to know.
She could see the crowd of village men up ahead. Their voices were becoming angry, restless. She began to push herself harder. She reached the edge of the crowd and began to push her way through.
As she pushed more and more, she began to panic. With every push, her panic increased. She could hear Inuyasha behind her, telling her to wait, but she couldn’t bring herself to listen. She had to help him. She just had to.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inuyasha ran as fast as he could, but his mind was still cloudy from Kagome’s “thank you” gift. He yelled for Rin to stop, but she wouldn’t listen. She just kept running. I’m getting too old for this shit, he thought.
Just as he made his way to the edge of the crowd, he heard Rin say the words that confirmed what he had feared. He pushed his way through the crowd, and as he approached the inside of the circle, he saw her.
Rin was on all fours, covered in blood and cradling a small demon in her arms. The green-skinned, toad-like demon was dressed in a brown nagabakama, clutching a weathered old staff in its right hand. The top of the staff was carved out in the shape of an elderly man with a cap similar to the one the demon wore, as well as an elderly woman with long, dark hair. The demon was obviously unconscious, and, if Inuyasha had to guess, going into shock from the loss of blood. His mouth gaped open and his eyes were opened wide, revealing the thin glaze that had slowly begun to envelop them.
Although Inuyasha hated the demon with every fiber of his being, he could not help but feel sympathy; not just for the demon, but the young girl cradling him in his arms, holding him close as she sobbed, “It’s okay, Master Jaken. Everything’s going to be okay, I’m here now…”
